Guest guest
This is not uncommon. I was having Lyme symptoms flare up with my cycle and my LLMD said that the hormones cause Lyme to come out and start replicating, causing the symptoms. He has me on Omnicef for the week before my cycle starts and it's entirely cleared up my flare up with zero herx'ing. Any antibiotic that kills the bugs extracellularly would work. He initially put me on Suprax but moved to me Omnicef after 5 or so months just to switch things up with the bugs. Guest guest
~ I couldn't agree with you more on this. and I have NO idea why. ANY suggestions would be helpful. I experiment each month with a new tactic, but inevitably end up Zombie-style, in bed for about 3-4 days.
Guest guest
Lyme has a four-week reproductive cycle. This is why we have to take antibiotics for ever and ever. Antibiotics only work while the bacteria are actively reproducing. Most bacteria multiply every 2-3 days, tops; so taking two weeks of antibiotic will hack at them through 3-4 reproductive cycles, by which point they should all be gone. Lyme is only really vulnerable to the abx during the 4-5 days a month it's actively reproducing. Some researchers think that there may be something in our hormones during the last week of our cycles that encourages the Lyme reproductive cycle to sync up with our own cycles, so we get big Lyme die-offs right when we're already feeling our crummiest. I found that bioidentical hormones helped manage this considerably. I started taking them in my late 30s, because Lyme is a major hormone disruptor and it was throwing me into perimenopause. (I'm slowly withdrawing from them now, as I get better -- now just using a little progesterone cream.) All the usual herx helpers should be ramped up, too -- is it time for me to publish that list again? Sara On Jan 21, 2010, at 3:59 58PM, wrote: > Do other women experience this too? Guest guest
- I actually laughed when I read this. Not at you, but because I can SO relate! This past week I could not get a sentence out accurately to save my life and I could've easily chopped my house down with my bare hands! If a towel isn't hung back up properly it could seriously send me over the edge. Everything gets worse for me about a week prior to my cycle and at the beginning of it. My dizzy spells and heart palpitations increase significantly during that time as well. I have no ideas as to what can help us, but it looks like a few others might. Just know that you're not alone! Guest guest
Me too My life used to be hell for the week before my period, then it was the week and a half, then it was the two weeks before (from ovulation onward)! Yes, very intense Lyme and Babesia symptoms (sweats, feeling like I was coming down with malaria, feeling like I was drowning in infection). This stopped happening to me when I got onto Bicillin shots for Lyme and Mepron for Babesia, so my vote is that this might be addressed by more treatment. In my impression, it was my infection levels that were fluctuating, not my levels of herxing, so controlling the infections better controlled the symptoms. > > > > > > Do other women experience this too? Guest guest
My teen-age daughter's Lyme situation always got MUCH worse around her periods. Her LL Naturopath put her on " Fem Premenstrual " by Metagenics. It's a combination of vitamins and herbs. The improvement was HUGE. After things stabilized, she went off them and seemed to be okay for a few months. Then the bad stuff started coming back, and we went back on them. Helps immensely. > > Do other women experience this too? Has anyone come up with anything that helps? I feel like I am obviously lacking something. Guest guest
Hmm. That reminds me of another Chinese herbal supplement I found useful. It was called " Female Well " from Get Well International. It was great stuff. I used it for years. In particular, it helped with mood and hot flashes. Guest guest
Hello, I just wanted to be clear about this. I am taking zithro, mepron and bicillan shots (2x/week) plus many other supplements. I start to feel pretty good and then am just zapped of all energy when my period hits. I am 45 so I am in the perimenopause stage anyway. But some months, it feels like it takes forever to recover and I have 1 good week/month. I also go to PT weekly. Any ideas for the week before and of would be wonderful so I could feel more like I am continuing with my progress instead of always moving backwards and forwards so much. I know it is part of Lyme but it's such a roller coaster! My LLMD did just do a hormone panel and I will see him next week so we will see what he comes up with. But, hormones change all the time so I don't feel like it is going to make a huge difference. I have been on progesterone cream before and I really don't like the way it makes me feel so I don't know if I'll go that route again. Any other ideas? Supplements? Hysterectomy? Labotomy? :-) PS - contracted Lyme 25 years ago on Martha's Vinyard, MA
Guest guest
My doctor also recommended a supplement called DIM as well as flax seed. She said both will help bind up extra estrogen that causes PMS. I took DIM for 2 months and it helped tremendously. Guest guest
Thats very interesting. I have heart palpitations and dizziness about a week before mine too. I went to an EP and at first said I had postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome because when going from lying down to standing my heart rate increased by 38 beats and my blood pressure dropped. The next visit that did not happen and he looked confused so maybe its just the timing of the visits.  From: anniepmm <anniepmm@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Symptoms worse before/during monthly cycle Date: Friday, January 22, 2010, 1:26 PM  - I actually laughed when I read this. Guest guest
Well, I can tell you that my electrophysiologist told me to drink 16 oz of water all at once every 2 to 3 hours. Its tough but it helps me with the dizziness. He also said to eat low carb meals. Thats not gonna happen (-:. The water helps control blood volume, actually it increases it. When you stand your blood drops to your lower extremities which can make you dizzy if your blood volume is on the lower side..I hope that helps. Guest guest
The very first piece of useful advice I got re: POTS was: Salt your food to taste, and don't hold back. You need the salt to a) thin your blood and keep enough blood volume going to avoid the lightheadedness. (Adding water helps; adding salt makes the water do more.) Aspirin, as another excellent blood thinner, also helps.
