Thanks Mikki-cute name by the way! I didn't know any other way to wean off. Is what my doctor said to do and then she said you'll just have to get through it after that! Great Doc huh. Yes, I have found a naturalpathic doc now but she is not doing much either. My symptoms are diareah, crampy stomach, major anxiety, can't sleep, feels like I can't breathe when I lay down...so wierd! Hot then freezing, crying spells, and aching all over my body.

Effexor is one you have to go very slowly. I found homeopathy to help. I used rescue remedy, l-tyrptophan high, arnica. I had my naturopath helping me wean off, because the shrink I was seeing would of weaned me off much faster and not care about my symptoms. I also suggest finding out what vitamins you are low in and start taking those supplements to help raise them. This will help you a lot on weaning off.

I was on 125 mgs of effexor and something else, it escapes my mind. I started weaning in dec of 06 and was off everything the end of march 07. I just opened the capsule and started cutting it down and when I stopped I was taking one of those little tiny pills inside the capsule. And even stopping that 1 little pill was so hard. When I started exercising this year I think I was detoxing all my past antidepressants and it was making me really sick. My naturopath advised maybe a portable sauna to help and that did help lots!!!

I know everyone has what they feel is the best way, I feel slow and easy and also building up the vitamins/minerals that you are low in. Even if they come back in range but lower end you probably should add those too. I was borderline anemic, in range but low vitamin D, low in magnesium and I also suffer thyroid issues..

Hope some of this helps…

Obviously I can’t dtr you, but if that

naturopathic dtr isn’t helping find another one. They are all different.

Though it sounds like you are having panic

attacks – rescue remedy is great for that..I know when I have a panic attack

and I still get them occasionally (when I went hypothyroid) I get diareah,

crampy, anxiety, fidgety, can’t sleep, can’t breathe… I wonder if you have a

thyroid issue. That is contributing.. I found out just recently when I went

hypo again under the care of a really great endo that being hypo is a trigger

for me to have panic attacks. If you are interested in getting tested these

are the labs I have found the most useful. TSH, free t3, free t4, total t3,

total t4, thyroid antibody tests to test for hashimotos (TPO and anti thyroglubulin),

probably vitamin D and ferritin too ferritin is storage iron. Also make sure

if you do these labs get a copy my endo uses a TSH range of .1 – 1.5 and feels

anything lower then 1.5 is hypo and deserves to be treated.. most dtrs. Use

the old standard .3 – 5.5 or something like that. .1 would be the hyper end.

If you have any questions just ask. We all

understand how pysch’s don’t care how you wean off these horrible drugs.

Germs -- not so good for people taking immunosuppressants. Chicken pox is

particularly bad for us, I hear. Also, we need stay away from people who have

had

recent live virus vaccinations.

Best to ask your doctor all these questions.

The cream is 70% fat so it still has a good source of the Virgin

Coconut Oil. But it depends what all you want to use the oil for. I

use it for cooking as well at eating so I prefer to have the oil as

well.

The dried coconut meat is ground into a very fine powder, giving it a

creamy consistency due to its high fat content. Since it is 70% fat,

it is a rich source of pure coconut oil. Note: this is a food, not a

cooking oil.

I like mate quite a bit and drink it pretty regularly. It is supposed to be high

in antioxiudents and is, to me, more stimulating than regular balck tea. Some

varieties have a pronounced smoky flavor, others less so. If you look around on

the internet you can find lots of different brands, including quite a few

organic & fair trade.

I have the gourd and such but I don't use it much. Mine is rather small, plus I

like sugar and cream in mine and you don't want to mess up the gourd with cream.

I typically use a small French press and find that it produces a very nice brew

and I can adjust the strength better. The whole gourd thing is kind of fun to

do, but I don't think you really need that unless you want it.

question

I was wondering if any one here had tried yerba mate and what was your

thoughts.

Do you use the bombilli or the gourd or what do you do...am just

trying to learn...so would appreciate input. Just wondering if it is

worth the time and money to do it.

thanks

I myself do not like mate, I drank some when I was in Argentina, the

argentinians put so much mate in the gourd to me it was strong and sweet, but I

guess it does have a lot of caffeine.

So would say the only thing about it that helps is the

antioxidents...is that like in tea? I thought that it was

different...I wonder if it would work in kombachu....sorry for all the

questions...my family has a lot of issues....and just trying to help.

Thanks

So would say the only thing about it that helps is the

antioxidents...is that like in tea? I thought that it was

different...I wonder if it would work in kombachu....sorry for all the

questions...my family has a lot of issues....and just trying to help.

Thanks

Ronni,

Really enjoy my Yerba mate tried it for my adrenals so went in

knowing that what ever it tasted like would drink it anyway,

was pleased with the taste. Searched out the most popular

brands to try first, always make sure it does not have sticks.

Favorite of most people

La Merced Organic is one sale a favorite

Taragui Traditional

monte

Canarias

Make sure you do not boil the water it burns the leaves

destroying the nutritional properties along with leaving a bitter taste,

you just want bubbles to appear.

Yes, use the gourd and bombilli, make sure you get a large

gourd. My first one was small and it had to be refilled constantly.

If you have a stainless steel thermos it works great as traditionally

one keeps refilling the gourd therefore the Yerba Mate stays hot.

The great part is you use the leaves over and over again all day.

Have a link to where buy mine found it searching the net

on a body building forum 1108 is a code for 10% off until

11-30-08, when you order over $30.00 you get another

10% off, along with a free bombilli. This shipping is really

high so make sure you buy a lot at a time it reduces the cost.

The prices there is the best found anywhere on the net and

Rick has sells often.

Just click here

Yerba Mate Cafe

Most people find a 1 kg (1.1 lbs) last 3 weeks.

some people buy a lot of samples so they can try

all the flavors, instead bought what were considered

favorite brands and each time buy more try one different kind

Rick also sends a free sample.

If you live in a large city Latin markets often have Yerba mate.

Make sure you cure your gourd instruction with link below

General Info

http://www.noborders.net/mate/

Neat site with a good bit of information, a good place to start.

http://www.rain-tree.com/yerbamate.htm

A really great info site on yerba from a website that catalogs rain forest

plants and the like.

Here is a website to Argentina's oldest and largest producer http://www

lasmarias.com.ar/

Las s the worlds largest producer of yerba mate provides its employees

with free health care, housing, schools, and recreational facilities. They

produce the brands Taragui, Union, La Merced, and Mananita.

They lead the country in social concerns. Learn more about Las s at www

I was wondering if any one here had tried yerba mate and what was your

thoughts.

Do you use the bombilli or the gourd or what do you do...am just

trying to learn...so would appreciate input. Just wondering if it is

worth the time and money to do it.

thanks

Yerba Mate works great in Kombucha. I used 1/2 green tea and 1/2 Yerba

Mate a lot. I fon't remember where I saw it suggested, but I tried it

and it's great.

Hi Dawn,

So sorry to hear that you are having so many

problems. My fist thought was that your fusion never

fused when you said you had a broken screw. That is a

sign of a non-union. Did the doc who removed the

hardware do a CT before removing it? That is the only

way to tell for sure if the fusion is good. Xrays can

give you an idea of how things are going, but when it

comes to removing hardware, a CT should ALWAYS be done

first.

When the doc went in to remove your hardware, he

would have been able to see the non-union then, if he

hadn't seen it before and he should have done

SOMETHING to help your back fuse. He was probably

hoping that you would fuse up and no one would be the

wiser. What an idiot. It's scary huh?

As far as not being able to perform a fusion again

from your back, that is not necessarily true, also,

fusion is never completely performed from the front.

you can do just posterior or posterior/anterior, but

not just anterior. When they go through the front for

a fusion, it is to remove the disk and place bone

graft there. The screws always go in the back.

Also, the anterior surgery sounds scary, but it's not

so bad. I've had it twice and the back part is

actually worse. As far as dangerous, no your

intestines won't twist and knot up. The exposure is

done by a vascular surgeon most places, and then the

spine surgeon goes in to do his part. The vascular

surgeon goes in and carefully retracts the organs and

blood vessels out of the way and they are positioned

behind a retractor for the rest of the surgery. It's

pretty safe, as long as a well-trained surgeon does

it. I personally would NOT trust your current surgeon

to do this. Get a second opinion.

Hey Donna,

You didn't say how high you are fused, and while I haven't experienced exactly what you have, I will say I'd prefer a chair with a high back, to keep my neck from getting tired. It's something I'd run by your doc at your next visit, but if you aren't having pain, I'd go with how your feel, if you feel you need a high backed chair sit in one. I'm keanly aware that since my only spine segements unfused are in my neck, I'm just plain careful to rest them a couple of times a day. I guess for me, that I'd much rather lay down than sit any day, I'm terrific when up walking and standing, but of all the things I do, sitting is my least favorite. So I'd go with what feels best, ask your doc about it, and take care of yourself. Ah, life with a fused spine!

[ ] Question

Hi all!I am coming up on my one-year revision anniversary this month and I have a question. Just as a reminder, I have two Harrington rods (1975), thoracic and lumbar, and have anterior/posterior fusion from L4-5 to S1-2 last January. Both rods were left intact during the revision. I'm feeling fine, however, lately I have noticed that when sitting in a chair I need something high backed so that I can rest the back of my head. In other words, it's like my head feels heavy on my neck without support, but only when sitting - no problem when standing on my feet. Has anyone experienced this? Donna T.

spinal problems

I have to have a series of bone x-rays done yearly to see if I have

developed Multiple Myeloma, this year they noted that I have 4 disks in my

neck that are trying to slipping on top of each other. Kind of like

settling. The oncologist who got the report wondered how I was still able

to move my head as much as I could. Symptoms I have are a crunching feeling

when I move my neck and from time to time what feels like an electrical

shock go into my head from my neck.

Any thoughts?

Hello Jan,

I know that feeling you are experiencing very well... I have had two

neck surguries and have a lot of other issues in my c-spine. I find

I get them very easy if the muscles in my neck and back of my head

are very tight... But there could be other causes that I am not aware

of... I wish you all the luck at the doctors. take care.
