Guest guest
I did some research and could not find info online about Ketek binding with calcium. I am quite certain though there were stickers saying do not consume with dairy products when I was given Ketek a year ago. Ketek is closely related to the macrolide family which includes Zithromax, so it suggests it shouldn't be taken with calcium). However I did find warnings not to consume more than 8 ozs of grapefruit in a day while on Ketek or can cause liver damage. Also those with low potassium or low magnesium levels should not take Ketek as it can cause irregular heart rhythm. (uh... don't most Lymies have low magnesium levels?) **Below are the abx that bind with both calcium and magensium. Azithromyacin (Zithromax)- also binds with Magnesium, Vit C & Iron All of the Tetracycline family (tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline) All of the Quinolone family (ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, norfloxacin, and ofloxacin) Gentamicin (consuming calcium with this abx can cause severe kidney damage) Metronidazole- Flagyl Other notes on antibiotics- Vitamin C should not be taken when on Bactrim and one should limit intake of fruits that contain Vit C as it can cause renal failure. Vitamin C decreases the effectiveness of Azithromyacin & Erythromycin. Tetracyclines will lower your Vitamin C absorption. Sulfa drugs will lower your B-12 level. Other common medications that you should not consume with calcium are All medications for hypothyroidism, Beta Blockers, Metaformin, Hydrochlorothiazide, Furosemide, Bumetanide, Amiloride, Cholestyramine, Colestipol, Colesevelam, Alendronate, Estrogens, Tiludronate Disodium. Hope this helps.
