Guest guest
I'm sure this is a old repeated question, but I dont remember the answer since it never applied to me before. I love LDN and it worked well for the first few months and then stopped. I've been on the diet of no gluten, wheat, dairy, sugar etc., candida cleanse (still dont know if I have candida, but did it anyway). Been in relapse and getting worse. Almost no mobility now. Take all the usual supps and extra antioxidants. Today I emailed my Dr. and he called in a oral steroid which I have never had . Did have the IV one when diagnosed. Anyway, do I need to stop the LDN while on the steroids? Or can I take them both at the same time? I'll wait to hear from you because I dont think my doctor will know the answer. Thank you, Felecia
Guest guest
I think you can take up to 40 mg of Hydrocortisone (equal to 5 mg Prenisone). I have been on 20-25 mg of HC for a few months due to adrenal fatigue and it seems to be okay. I have been trying to taper down (15-20) , but lately have had a lot of back pain and that eats up my body's cortisone. Perhaps someone else can confirm this. Guest guest
You can take oral steroids with LDN, I sometimes have to do this with no problem, Dr Zagon says, that to say otherwise is an urban myth..... I am proof of the puddin'...... As for the LDN not working for you anymore, try staying of it a couple of days, or take it every other day, experiment carefully to see what works best for you.... Guest guest
Hi Felecia, I found myself in the same dilemma last year when I had a flare up. I was prescribed oral steroids – 40mg of prednisone for 1 week, then taper off by 5mg every 3 days. I came off the LDN to let the steroids do their work as I was led to believe that taking the two wouldn’t work and cancel each other out ie one boosts the immune system and the other suppresses it. Having finished the course of steroids, my flare didn’t really clear up and the Drs put me on the same course which annoyed me somewhat as if it didn’t work the first time, why should it work the second time? Also, I had varying reports of taking LDN and steroids and as LDN boosts the endorphins that modulate the immune system it actually works with steroids. So I tried the both and I had a much better result from combining the two than coming off LDN so judging from my experience I would recommend you stay on the LDN while taking steroids. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi, I have used LDN since 2007, with great results. I have also used oral steroids each time I have flared, because for me, LDN alone was not stopping flares to come. When I flared (twice a years, now; once the last years), I prefer to give LDN a little help by combining LDN and prednisone. My doctor has told me that I am in charge when and how big doses I prefer to use with LDN, so I've had a start dose at 40 mg prednisone combined with 4.5 mg LDN. The flare usually calms down immediately, and within a week I am down at 10 mg, in which I use a few weeks before I taper to 5 mg every day and then every second day untill I feel sure that the flare has faded out. When I started to use LDN, I learned that you should never use prednisone with LDN, because they cancelled each other out. Some doctors suggested to use antioxydants instead of prednisone, I tried, but it didn't stop the Crohns flare, which may be need harder guns than antioxydants. Because everybody reacts different to their diseases treatments, you could always first try antioxydants, to figure out if that will help you. Oh, and, Dr. Jill , the leader of the phase II trial of Crohns versus LDN let a group continue with 10 mg prednisone and LDN during the trial. These meds were not at all contraindicated. Are you aware of the LDN and IBD group here at ? A group which members have Crohns, ulcerative colitis or other gut problems. You could always join us in this group!Stay well, IngridFrom: felecia <felecia3522@...>low dose naltrexone Sent: Sat, April 23, 2011 2:17:11 AMSubject: [low dose naltrexone] LDN and oral steroids?
