Tom -- what is Buhner's Core Protocol? Sorry to hear about your

complications. I am very new to abx so I cannot offer any insights on

what's going on. Hope others with experienced will. -- Lida

> Hi Group...I had a good LLMD visit today, and feel pretty good

after a 6+ hour round trip. (A nap with the family cat upon

returning home definitely helped). I was on 2000 mg. Ceftin for the

past 9 weeks, in addition to restarting Buhner's Core Protocol (CP) 5

weeks ago. I'm currently at the maximum dosage for the CP, and

haven't had any major issues with it. About 3+ weeks ago, my blood

pressure / pulse increased (I'm on meds for this), and I slowly

started losing my sense of taste / smell. I'm currently at about an

80% loss of taste / smell. Anyone else lose their sense of taste /

smell while taking long term abx, or the CP? I told the doctor about

this and he thinks I have an oral yeast infection because of the abx,

and prescribed Nystatin. Anyone else use Nystatin? I can't remember

hearing about this med before. He also switched me from Ceftin, to

4000 mg. Amoxicillin. I was on this dose of Amoxicillin for 3 months

last summer and felt GREAT.

x daily). The game plan is to remain on the CP maximum dose until

the beginning of March, then gradually reduce the dosage until August

time frame; Continue taking 4000 mg. Amoxicillin through the end of

March; Then, return to 2000 mg. Ceftin for approximately 2 or 3

months. I'm hoping that I feel WELL (back to my old self) by end of

March, then continue taking abx for a few more months (just for good

measure), and hopefully stop abx in June. That's the current plan,

anyway. Like I said in other posts, I really feel good about the CP -

especially when combining it with Lyme doses of abx. I'm also

grateful to have an LLMD, hope, and a plan to knock out this damn

spirochete!

Tom,

I hope the Nystatin gives you back your sense of taste & smell!

Nystatin is an antifungal, like Diflucan. It's been around a lot

longer than Diflucan and is available in both pill and liquid form.

For oral thrush, one usually swishes 3 or 4 times a day with

Nystatin liquid.

I had an awful case of oral thrush before I realized what it was.

Now I know the signs and start swishing before it gets too bad. For

me, the signs are a feeling of rawness on the inside of my cheeks

and an over-sensitivity to salty or spicy foods.

Your plan, which is quite different from mine except that we're both

doing the CP, is really interesting. It points up the fact that

everyone has to treat Lyme differently. No wonder it's such a

maddening disease!

Harrod Buhner has written a book called " Healing Lyme. " Here's

a link to it at Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0970869630/qid=1136989794/sr=2-

Some of us who have been sick for quite a while and been on abx for a

long time are doing his protocol in addition to taking abx.

I'm also doing Buhner's Core Protocol (or " the CP " ) as we call it. I

did it for about 2 months, now I'm taking a break and will start again

in a few weeks.

I highly recommend Buhner's book.

Jessie & Tom -- Are your LLMD's in agreement with " the CP " protocol

while taking abx? Does this protocol have anything to do with

detoxing? Thanks. -- Lida

Hi Lida...My LLMD does not sell natural treatments, nor does he suggest natural

treatments, but he was in agreement with the CP I presented to him. The CP

kills spirochetes and enhances your immune system. 2 of the supplements in the

CP are antispirochetal, and cross the blood brain barrier. The CP can be used

with or without abx - I'm glad to use it with abx - it feels like a double edged

attack on this disease...Tom

Tom -- thank you for your reply. " Double edged attack on the

disease " ... Do you ever detox with anything, like Milk Thistle?

Does " The PC " protect one from fungus like thrash adn Candida? Best

Lida...I've been taking Milk Thistle, along with Primadophilus, and numerous

other supplements / vitamins for the past years (including Co-Q10, Alpha Lipoic

Acid). I've been concerned with yeast infections for the past year, but my

doctors didn't share my concern (my EX-infectious disease expert thought I was

nuts when I asked him if I should be taking Diflucan). Unfortunately, I didn't

insist on additional preventative measures, and I now have oral yeast (this was

discovered because I've lost my sense of taste / smell). I'm now taking a

prescription antifungal (with refills) through my LLMD to treat the yeast, and

plan to keep a closer eye on this in the future. This entire thing is a

learning process, that's why it's helpful to share our experiences on this

forum. I'm feeling pretty good lately - I think I'm on my way up and out of

this mess...Tom

My LLMD & I found the book about the same time; he was on his second

time through it when I took it with me to an appointment. He now

recommends the CP to many of his patients and it's a standard part of

my treatment.

It's not really about detoxing. It's more about killing the

spirochetes and giving the patient some energy.

The CP won't necessarily protect one from fungus, etc., but it's not

as hard on the body as abx and doesn't kill ALL bacteria, so Candida

and the gang are not as likely.

Jessie -- That is good to hear! I still have a question whether one

should detox while killing the spirochetes? During abx and/or " The

PC " therapy the toxins must greatly stress the whole organism,

kidneys, bladder, liver and lymphatic system. Shouldn't we be

detoxing while on the Lyme therapy treatment? Any thoughts and/or

experience? Thanks. -- Lida

Lida,

I've done some detoxing, but haven't found that it makes much

difference for me one way or the other. Other people swear by it.

Some people detox primarily when they're Herxing because that's an

obvious time to try to flush the toxins from the body.

I've never eaten a detox diet, but I have taken hydrogen peroxide

baths and done coffee enemas.

My LLMD (and I) is more inclined to suggest that one try to

alkalinize the body with diet to make it inhospitable to Lyme. The

only difficulty with this for me is that my Lyme brain is constantly

working against me and making me crave things I shouldn't eat then

taking away any discipline I have. It sucks.
