A) you could reduce the dose to 3.0 mgB) you could use 4.5 mg if that is working the best for you, and take your LDN in the morning.IngridFrom: "rbarna@..." <rbarna@...>low dose naltrexone <low dose naltrexone >Sent: Fri, April 22, 2011 11:49:04 PMSubject: [low dose naltrexone] sleep....please!!!!!

HI Everyone:A almost a month ago my doctor increased my LDN dosage from 3.0 to 4.5, I absolutley need to get some sleep! When I first started the 3.0 dosage it took me about 2 weeks to get adjusted and then my sleep was just fine. This is not the case with the 4.5 dosage. I've tried Melatonon - I'm taking 8 tablets before I go to bed....feel sleepy, fall asleep and then up in 2 hours....AWAKE!Does anyone know if Valerian Root works or is it an opiod?Does ANYONE have ANY advice....i need to SLEEP!ThanksRoni------------------------------------

Dr. Murray recommends 5HTP. 100 mg 30 to 45 min before bed. If no help

after 3 days, he says you can move up to 300 mg.

Good luck,

Steve

For me, 5-HTP works much better than Valerian ever did. Valerian NEVER did anything for me! I don't know where its excellent reputation comes from. Maybe I got the wrong brand or maybe the label was mislabeled as far as the actual strength I was taking. Cherwyn

http://5-htp.org/What Is 5-htp?5-hydroxytryptophan

(5-HTP) is an amino acid that occurs naturally in the body and is the final step in the production of the neurotransmitter serotonin, an important chemical that's responsible for many of the brain impulses involving satisfaction and well being. 5-HTP is created through the hydroxylating of Tryptophan. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that must be taken in through protein containing foods since the body can not

synthesize it. Of the eight essential amino acids, tryptophan is the least common, accounting for only about one percent of protein content, and it is used up rapidly by the body. About ninety-percent is used in protein synthesis. The rest is divided between serotonin production and niacin production, which requires 60mg for every 1mg of niacin produced.

However, 5-HTP is only used in serotonin production. 5-hydroxytryptophan is also able to pass through the blood-brain barrier

easily, unlike tryptophan, which can only pass through the barrier by using the same transport molecule that caries leucine, isoleucine, and valine.Unlike tryptophan supplements, 5-HTP supplements are not produced commercially by the fermentation of bacteria. Instead, it is extracted from the seeds of Griffonia simplicifolia, an African tree that is grown mostly in Ghana and the Ivory Coast. The extraction process uses alcohol and produces an oily solid. The oily extract is then purified into a dry solid. 5-HTP can also be made synthetically in the laboratory. The final product is the same as the one made by the body.On November 17th,

1989 the FDA recalled all L-Tryptophan supplements. The reason was an increasing worry that the supplements may be causing eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome. A syndrome that is characterized by severe muscle and joint pain, swelling of the arms and legs, skin rash and, sometimes, fever. At the time of this recall, tryptophan was gaining popularity in the treatment of insomnia, depression and obesity (among other uses). Today, 5-hydroxytrptophan is considered a safer and more effective treatment for these conditions. From: "rbarna@..." <rbarna@...>STEVEN <even1@...>Sent: Sat, April 23, 2011 11:51:50 AMSubject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] Re: sleep....please!!!!!

Never used it, just started reading about it a few months ago for some family and friends who would likely benefit. Where did you hear about white blood cell issues?http://www.amazon.com/5-HTP-Natural-Overcome-Depression-Insomnia/dp/0553379461/ref=sr_1_28?ie=UTF8 & qid=1303622635 & sr=8-28From: "rbarna@..." <rbarna@...>STEVEN <even1@...>Sent: Sat, April 23, 2011 8:37:54 PMSubject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] Re: sleep....please!!!!!

This may not have anything to do with your situation, but I have had insomnia

for YEARS, and at one point was on two Rx meds for it, which did not work all

that well. I was doing pretty much everything 'right' but no sleep. Exercise

just made things worse.

One month ago, I asked to be put on T3 when I was finally shown to have a high

(less than 6, but still...) TSH.

Within a week, on only 25mcg, my sleep had improved enormously. My kids are

commenting on my energy level.

How's your thyroid?

Sleep issues and what you can take to enhance your sleep are

explained in clear terms...the best that I've seen, at:

I am also sleeping better with T3, 2mcg twice a day. My thyroid functions test as normal, but it has really helped with my energy. not sure it helped my sleep.

Lower your dose. :-)I am 150 lb female, I use 3mg. I actually got insomnia and felt good at 1.5 mg, but the insomnia subsided. I think it's just about what you need and what you can handle. I myself should probably go back down to 1.5mg because I have been noticing sleep issues with myself too.

Maybe go down to 3 mg for a bit and kick it back up if/when you feel the need at some point (like, you want a really clean house? LOL)On Fri, Apr 22, 2011 at 5:49 PM, <rbarna@...> wrote:

Hello Everybody! I'm Bridget and I've just been diagnosed with MS. Does LDN help with memory problems - whether it be short term (seconds or minutes) or long term? If not does anybody know of anything that does or a doctor that specializes in MS and the memory issue. I'm only 33 and I feel this is ruining my life.....Thanks in advance. From: Nicholls <peter.nicholls@...>To:

It did for many of us, and in fact, was one of the first improvements that I

saw. It is certainly worth a try. We continue to warn that it only promises to

stop progression, which is huge by itself since nothing else on the market even

at thousands of dollars a month, can do that. I sure wish that I had found LDN

when first diagnosed, before the damage had already started to accumulate!

I suggest you give it a try and tell us if it helps :-)
