Guest guest
beachlymie, i am on alinia for babesia, as it is an antiparasitic. my dr. mentioned that it may help with the lyme but i am on a modified marshall protocol - minocycline & benicar - for that. for the first month or so i was on 1 alilnia, twice a day. for the last 4 months i have been taking that dose every other day and on the alternate day i take zithromax. the only strange thing i have noticed at first on the alinia were little rice size white 'things' in my stool. probably intestinal parasite die-off, but i had that less and less over the months. i have been prescribed 2 packets of cholestrymine (sp) a day which draws toxins out of my system and i believed has made the herxing from all of the meds much milder. when i was on IV rocephin AND pulsing the alinia and zith, that wasn't pleasant but the really bad stuff ended when i went off the IV rocephin so i would blame it on that. is what you are experiencing a herx reaction (toxic overload and die-off of the critters - the meds actually working) or a true side effect unrelated to lyme. you didn't say what the side effect you were experiencing was. if it is intestinal pain, digestion or elimination issues, well, the alinia is killing any parasites in your entire system. parasites you might not have been tested for or be aware that you have. i tested pos. for just about every intestinal parasite on the stool test my dr ordered. so, i expected a little discomfort from that automatically. i don't know of any one who has cured their lyme using alinia. it is a newer drug and i haven't come across many people who are even on it for babs. most are on mepron. my llmd did mention a newer protocol for alinia taking double the dosage for like 2 weeks straight, then one week off, then 2 weeks of double doses again - or something like that. but again, this protocol was for treating babesia. don't know who dr. h is but we always refer to dr's by their initials to protect their anonymity. so many llmd's are being prosecuted. ABX means antibiotics. hope this helps, deb [ ] Alinia > >I did a search for Alinia and two posts came up. Could you please >explain their posts to me? What is ABX? What is Biaxin? Guest guest
beachlymie, you might also want to check at lymenet.org, and click on the flash discussion link. do a search on alinia. when ever i have a drug related question they have usually already discussed it. if they haven't, ask the same question on that board. the people there are really smart and helpful. deb [ ] Alinia > >I did a search for Alinia and two posts came up. Guest guest
Thanks for your responses. I am surprised none of you were prescribed Alinia for lyme as the leader of my lyme support group is on it. I assumed others were too. My side effects from Alinia and/or amoxicillin are severe constipation, intestinal pain, fatigue and nausea. Since I was taking both, it is difficult to tell which one is giving me which side effect. Today, I changed antibiotics to Losertrin which is causing which nausea. Deb, you made a good point that the " side effects " could be herxing. However, is the herxing from eradicating parasites that never showed up in my stool tests or eradicating lyme? Thank you for recommending cholestrymine. I will buy it. I never heard of the marshall protocol. I'll look into it. Does the marshall protocol work? Has anyone afterwards tested negative for lyme?
