Guest guest
OK. I just got home from taking my 14yo to the dermatologist for the first time. After no more than 10 minutes with the doc, she walked out with 3 prescriptions. One for the reason we went -- a minor skin irritation -- and two for " acne. " (She doesn't have acne, nothing that proper skin care wouldn't help). Of course, she was thrilled as that is what all her friends do -- take meds to get clear skin. This DOES have to do with lyme, just bear with me. One prescription was for doxy. TWO MONTHS worth at 200 mg a day, AND 4 more refills. That's 8 MONTHS worth of doxy...to treat what? Acne that's not even acne. She's never even seen this guy before. But, when I was battling lyme (bulls-eye rash and all), they fought me tooth and nail for an extra WEEK's worth of doxy, at only 200 mg. a day. Absolutely refused to give me any more or at a stronger dose. Yet they'd give a 14yo 8 MONTHS worth for acne?? Oh, yes, the potential long-term complications of acne are so much worse than the potential long-term complications of lyme disease......GRRRRR!!! Sorry...just had to vent. I just can't believe the powers that be would put up such a fuss over the initial course of treatment for lyme when the potential benefits of the correct initial course of treatment are so great...
