Guest guest
This is so maddening to read! I can just imagine how you must feel! Well, if your young person got these Rx's and they aren't needed for acne, can you use them? The information grapevine among medical practitioners obviously contains certain whispers about Lyme disease and non-diagnosis and non-treatment. Too bad we can't get our hands on something concrete like a memo or notice of some sort. Use that Doxy!! Best Wishes, Tina J. blizzard2376 <wge376@...> wrote: OK. I just got home from taking my 14yo to the dermatologist for the first time. After no more than 10 minutes with the doc, she walked out with 3 prescriptions. One for the reason we went -- a minor skin irritation -- and two for " acne. " (She doesn't have acne, nothing that proper skin care wouldn't help). Of course, she was thrilled as that is what all her friends do -- take meds to get clear skin. This DOES have to do with lyme, just bear with me. One prescription was for doxy. TWO MONTHS worth at 200 mg a day, AND 4 more refills. That's 8 MONTHS worth of doxy...to treat what? Acne that's not even acne. She's never even seen this guy before. But, when I was battling lyme (bulls-eye rash and all), they fought me tooth and nail for an extra WEEK's worth of doxy, at only 200 mg. a day. Absolutely refused to give me any more or at a stronger dose. Yet they'd give a 14yo 8 MONTHS worth for acne?? Oh, yes, the potential long-term complications of acne are so much worse than the potential long-term complications of lyme disease......GRRRRR!!! Sorry...just had to vent. I just can't believe the powers that be would put up such a fuss over the initial course of treatment for lyme when the potential benefits of the correct initial course of treatment are so great... --------------------------------- Be a PS3 game guru. Guest guest
You have every right to be mad. This Country is crazy when I comes to medical treatment. I've heard similar with it comes adults getting abx for UTI's but will give months and months worth to children. At 08:03 AM 2/5/2007, you wrote: >OK. Guest guest
i'm with you! in fact... i think i feel a zit coming on. if the ducks can endanger our health by not treating us for lyme with more than 28 days of antibiotics.......we should be able take advantage of them the same way to get what we want. take advantage of that 7 minute insurance approved dr. and get 3 - 8 months for an unsightly zit. besides, a few zits are much more of a threat to your well being than say a life threatening chronic illness. i'm stepping off of my soap box and going to check in the bathroom mirror for potential doxy prescrips. deb Re: [ ] Re: This is Sooo Wrong! > >Good idea on the refills. > >
Guest guest
how about the conneticut attorney general who is heading the IDSA guidelines investigation. it shows that long term antibiotics ARE being prescribed with little or no thought for much less severe things. just a thought.
