My only comment further would be that I am not convinced the " stage " concept really makes sense when you have done something to recover. I think it is more likely that the multiple infections improve and if your body is not too severely damaged you respond and recover. Often following this recovery patients relapse. This is seen in those who go off Ampligen and those who go off antibiotics - at least in cases where they responded to either of these treatments. Personally I gained weight three times, when I developed autoimmune thyroid disease, when I developed cfs, and when I stopped the Zithromax for 3 months 2 yrs ago. I guess the reason I don't care for the stage idea is that I know people who have recovered in all three stages and after many years. Nicolson and others say that the longer you are sick the more infections you have, probably opportunistic, but in the case of Lyme the tick can be carrying more than one bug. a

Guest guest
Because I was bed ridden for 10 years while trying to get diagnosed for Late Stage Lyme I went from a swelt 150lbs to a shall we say a rubenisque 235. So about two or three years ago After using Rocephin 2mg IV for Five months I lost the weight. Back down to 165 fully dressed with clothes and shoes on. This weekend Mervyn's a local department store had one of those clearance sales where things marked down 70% had an additional 40% taken off at the Cash register. My clothes have been just hanging on me. Most I had given away or thrown out. I needed clothes. This I say to justify what I did. I bought myself four pairs of jeans, three tops and two real cut jackets. All on my credit card. I still have three black dresses I loved to wear at 235 obviously I will never wear them again. I've tried taking them in, but you can only take in a dress 4 or 5 inches. I have tried to restructure these garments it just doesn't work. I am going to have to part with them. Why am I telling you guys this. Well I haven't given anything to Dr. fund except to mention him in my prayers. Guest guest
Hi all, I wanted to join in on this topic because we dealt w/ this issue w/ my daughter who has late-stage chronic lyme, and she too gained over 65 lbs while only eating about 600 calories per day (she could only eat special K cereal because her stomach was so messed up). We found that when she was treated for the toxins that seem to be trapped in the systems of people w/ chronic lyme, the weight just melted off w/out her changing anything but doing the toxic treatments. The first toxin treatment she did was Richie Shoemakers protocal (you can do a search w/ his name and neurotoxins to get the details. She did that for about 4 months and then she switched to the Kane protocal which involves detoxing w/ phosphytal choline. She did that protocal for 2-3 times a week for about 4 months and the pounds just completely dropped, which proved she was full of toxins and needed help in ridding her body of them. Unfortunately, neither protocal helped w/ her lyme symptoms, but she at least was happy to have her " normal " weight back again. I've learned that a large percentage of people w/ lyme have weight problems, due to the endocrine system being affected along w/ so many other body systems and that most people w/ lyme, when they find the correct antibiotic for the strain or strains, plus treatment for co-infections return to their pre-lyme weight w/out having to do any drastic dieting etc. Just wanted to share some experience that we have in that department. Guest guest
Millie, Thank you so much for sharing your story. I too have similar problem and it is very difficult for me to talk about. Round about the time of the first tick exposure I was having a lot of trouble breathing and was diagnosed with asthma. I don't know if it was the Lyme or the 2-3 months I was on prednisone, but I gained 100 lbs in 2 months! At the same time I was diagnosed with fibromyaglia and the rheumatologist was screaming at me over the weight gain. I was active in taekwondo at the time and worked out 15 hrs a week between classes and teaching the 2-3 yr group. So I went from 135 to 235 in 2 months.. I literally hate myself because I hate being fat, I hate the way people treat me now and the way a number of responders to personal ads have not wanted a 2nd date after meeting me or getting a picture. Some have even said they didn't want to be seen with me. Its so hard to find clothes, none of which are in fashion and the larger sizes cost more. I experience so much pain when I exercise and even when I do manage to I don't lose weight more than 5 lbs. I don't eat near as much as the people at work who munch on junk food and fast food all day at their desks, yet I am the one overweight. I have heard Lyme can cause weight gain, but I don't know if that's really true other than in the sense of making people exercise less. I feel like I would be treated so much better if I was small again and maybe would even have been married by now. Old maid at 36! How do you attribute your weight loss to rocephin? I have heard tell of that before but can't remember in what context I heard it. Did rocephin cause your to vomit or have stomach pain and that caused the weight loss?? I noticed since going on Cipro it is like it an appetitite suppressant. I haven't read that anywhere, but that is the only thing that has changed. I only eat 2 meals a day most days since being on it because I just don't feel hungry. However I haven't lost any weight on it which makes me wonder what is going on here. Sure exercise and diet are both needed to lose weight, but eating less alone will normally make a person loose a few pounds. Thanks for sharing your story. I hope you can keep the weight off and can enjoy wearing lots of nice new clothes! > > Because I was bed ridden for 10 years while trying to get diagnosed for Late Stage Lyme I went from a swelt 150lbs to a shall we say a rubenisque 235. > > So about two or three years ago After using Rocephin 2mg IV for Five months I lost the weight. Guest guest
Hi. Thanks for sharing. Sorry I don't know your name. This is very interesting about phosphytal choline as on another board it was mentioned that until it is put back in balance along with magnesium Lyme patients would continue to have symptoms even after getting rid of the spirochetes. I'm going to have to do some reading on this. I have not heard of either of the protocals you mentioned. How long has your daughter been maintaining the new lower weight? Is she able to eat more foods than just Special K? Can you explain the Patrica Kane protocol that she did? Thanks! > > Hi all, > > I wanted to join in on this topic because we dealt w/ this issue w/ my > daughter who has late-stage chronic lyme, and she too gained over 65 lbs while > only eating about 600 calories per day (she could only eat special K cereal > because her stomach was so messed up). Guest guest
Well as soon as I started feeling like moving around I went to a junk store and bought a wheel chair. I would take that wheel chair and walk as far as I could walk. I had myself on a 1500 calorie diet for the whole 15years I was sick. So getting out of bed and adding that calorie burn started the drop. It went relatively fast. I was surprised. Mind you that would be just to the end of my block. At first. Very short city blocks. But mentally I was game and so I would do it. Then when I had gone only maybe four or five houses I would sit down in that wheel chair and my arms were the strongest part of me so I would push myself a little further. Then come home. After a few months I started what I called taking my wheelchair for a walk. I got further and further away from home. When I could go no farther and often I would have pushed myself way too far and I would literally be afraid I would not make it home. But obviously I made it. I was so Thankful I had that ridiculous wheelchair. I still have it because I have been sick enough again and again that I have gotten it out and used it. It is in my trunk and when I have pushed myself too far but I still need some groceries or something like that I will get it out and use it. It was embarrassing to me. I found people do not see people in wheelchairs. I mean they look everywhere so they don't have to make eye contact. I also found most stores and streets are not made for handicapped people. I was so weak every time I would come to a driveway I would be fighting to keep from rolling out into the street. It was a trip but I stuck with it. Several times I dumped myself over backwards. I just had to laugh at myself. That is all I could do. But that first major energy jump was brought on by 2gms of IV Rocephin, with a port, right into my Aorta that gave me the biggest burst of energy. We through in 500mg Flagyl and that took me out with the worst case of Candida you can Imagine. A real bad case of Candida which went on for several more years undiagnosed and caused me much more trouble over the next few years. I have things about my life I wish I could share on this site. You folks are my only family. Friends. But I don't think I can talk about the Awful things I have had to endure over the 15 years I have been sick with Late Stage Lyme, on this site. Maybe I can tell this. I was rapped by a Home Health Care provider so I got a bad taste for those people and became very independent, and strong. I already was but it added an edge to say the least. It was a home health care provider that walked off with my Day-planner pill box full of Flagyl (Abx) thinking they had gotten off with about 50 Hydrocodine. That was a good chuckle as it came back in about two days. No I did not just misplace it. It is the largest one they make. It is large so you can put A days worth of vitamins and all, in for a week at a time. I am organized and pretty much know where things are in my apartment. I have Migraine Headaches often so I have blackout curtains and I often walk around in the dark and so I keep things organized. So Losing 80lbs how did I do it. It was not hard. Like I said I was already on a low calorie diet. So the added activity just melted the pounds away. I really keep thinking it will come back but I think I have managed to beat it. I'll probably jinx myself telling this story. I would send you lots of hope especially if you are or IV it is a personal opinion but I believe IV is the only way to go to get a major jump on this disease. I was on Rocephin. That is the Abx Dr. Fallon used in his double blind study. I found it miraculous. Again my opinion. It took two or three months and I began talking a lot and I would get up in the middle of a treatment and head across the floor to go get something and be dragging the infusion machine. Its a wonder I did not pull the darn thing out. I was very healthy when I got Late Stage Lyme so I feel that played a big part in my recovery. Recovery? I am on Zithromax and Diflucan right now and five months ago I could not do my laundry without thinking I was going to die. I still have so much pain I think I will just die. So what am I saying recovery. What I mean is I am not bed ridden. I stay out of bed for about twelve hours. I am hurting so bad my body is screaming but I have my computer and several TV shows I watch and a DVD player so I rent movies from Netflix. I also have been studying the bible for at least 10 years on the Internet. I can't believe it's been ten years but it has. When I first got put on IV I had a sore on the bone of each hip. The local Dr. said she did not know how or why. Well I knew I had worked in medical records at the local hospital and I knew what they look like it was bed sores. Doctors don't get it. You tell them you have been in bed for 10, 15 years and they just don't get it. It just doesn't register is all I can think. Or they just don't listen. How I am doing and what i am doing changes daily. So don't take any of this as gospel. Right now I feel a Migrane coming and I know what that means I am going to be one sick puppy for a couple days. I am still so surprised when I reach for a 3x and a small/medium and the latter fits like the first used to. It just hasn't registered. So I yak on. Glad to hear you are doing IV. Guest guest
Hi, The weight has been off for two years so I am hoping it is gone for good. The Late Stage Lyme definately isn't. Guest guest
I have this exercise machine I bought 15 years ago off home shopping called a HealthRider. I was working out on it everyday faithfully all the years I was undiagnosed with Late Stage Lyme. It has a calorie counter on it along with how many reps and how long you have been on the machine. I kept using it. And the weight just kept coming anyway. I would get on it and do enough reps to add up to 100 calories. That was how I did it. When I was so sick I did nothing else. I would get on that machine. It is sitting here right beside me by my computer desk. Haven't been on it in weeks. It makes a great clothes hanger. I don't know about the weight loss. I attribute the IV Rocephin as being able to get out of bed and figured because I was up walking around the weight just started to come off. The more I hear from you guys about it I don't know anymore. Hanging on to my 3x's. Just in case. Millie wtptoo <wtptoo@...> wrote: Millie, Thank you so much for sharing your story. Guest guest
, The Kane protocol consisted of the phos-cal (a lipid, which was ordered from Sweden thru her office) that was injected into her portocath (an iv line via her chest) and then it was followed by a glutathione push. We only lived about an hour from her office which is in Haverford, PA and so the nurses trained me how to do this at home and we did the " pushes " 2-3 times a week for 4 or so months. You can read all about the phos-cal and how it detoxes the liver etc if you do a search for Haverford Wellness Center or Kane protocol, I think it explains in depth all the details. We had learned about it from some research I had done and how a gentleman w/ late-stage lyme felt that this was his " magic bullet " that cleared his mind and most of his lyme symptoms. Like I stated in the previous post, her lyme symptoms did not improve, only the puffiness and swelling and the weight loss of almost 60 lbs in just about 4 months w/ no diet change. She has maintained her " normal " weight for over a year now and once she got treated for babesia (never tested positive, but had many symptoms) she started being able to eat much more of a variety of foods, like chicken and veggies etc, that her stomach just could not handle in the past, and she actually has dropped even more weight because she is a little more active. Babesia can really play havoc on the stomach and we learned that most of her stomach problems were due to the untreated co-infections that just were not showing up on even Igenex testing. We have not done any aggressive toxin removal for a while now and since she has reached a plateau, I was thinking that possibly the trapped toxins could be keeping her from any noticeable improvements again, so we may do the phos-cal treatment again or the Ritchie Shoemaker one and see if that doesn't help the stalemate. Many doctors had learned how to do these protocols so you wouldn't necessarily have to see the particular doctors who are in this area in order to try them. Many LLMD's will gladly read your copies of research and do what they can to help beat this evil organism. Hope this helps ~Janet
Guest guest
I noticed when I started taking digestive enzymes I lost some and also when I began the probiotics. I stay right around 140-150,so weight isn't something that I've had to worry about. My son is very overweight, diag with Lyme, has fatty liver also and one liver enzyme is up. LLMD is thinking part of it is hormonal and also he had a 24 hr urine done for cortisol. Haven't gotten the results back yet. I also understand that Lyme can mess up the hypothalamus, thyroid, digestive system and etc, so imagine that's where part of the problem lies also. And yes it makes me just sick- the comments, looks and attitude that others have about overweight- there's so many variables than can cause it. Guest guest
Yeah I went thru the personals rejection thing. I did not know why. Too old, too fat, who knows. The good thing about it was I got my sweet revenge when two of these guys who rejected me for whatever reason. Each one showed up in a different newspaper article. Different things different stories. But both of them looked as old and haggered as they had appeared to me on our one date, dates. fancy1413 <fancy1413@...> wrote: I noticed when I started taking digestive enzymes I lost some and also when I began the probiotics. Guest guest
Rosemarie, I had the reverse happen. I gained 10 lbs in 2 months after starting probiotics. I wasn't ever good about taking probiotics regularly until I was put on antibiotics and realized I had to take them. I had chronic diarrhea for years which the probiotics stopped and apparently that is how the weight gain started. I have a friend who has taken probiotics for years yet still has chronic diarrhea, she is very skinny and has lost 20 more lbs since starting Lyme treatment. She only weighs about 80 lbs now! Its weird how it affects people differently. > > I noticed when I started taking digestive enzymes I lost some and > also when I began the probiotics. Guest guest
I wonder if the diarrehea was possibly due to the probiotics helping to get rid of yeast, or displacing some " bad " bacteria. My daughter has said she felt worse after taking digestive enzymes (maybe it's helping to heal the gut by digesting the protein coating of either yeast or again " bad bacteria) and the probiotics. She is eating better now, and is taking Diflucan. Am hoping to encourage her to retry them at some point in time as I've seen so many positives with them with my husband and myself. Maybe the weight gain was due to you absorbing and utililizing the nutrients better? DOn't know, it's such a guessing game sometimes. Son's stools have gotten better with time with the digestive enzymes and the probiotics (from much reading and etc I feel that Leaky gut syndrome is a big problem for him). He also has to be full of yeast- when he took Nystatin (used for intestinal yeast) he had shortness of breath, enough to have to use his inhaler which he hadn't had to use for a long time. With the Diflucan (used for systemic yeast) he's not had this at all. Am hoping to get him back on antibiotic and eventually the Nystatin, but we're working on hormone replacement and trying to get his sleep patterns back to " normal " , so don't want to upset the apple cart as he's tolerating things right now and is beginning to eat better. (Thank God!!) Take care Rose Marie > > Rosemarie, > > I had the reverse happen. I gained 10 lbs in 2 months after starting > probiotics. Guest guest
, Not only does it affect people different it also effects each of us differently at different times. I originally lost 20lbs and have since gained 50lbs. Same diet and exercise routine. Go figure... another weird thing about Lyme.
