I started making small steps of improvement generally that soon mounted up over time and now have not had any pounding heart for around 2 years. I did have h.pylori treatment and have a regime of supplements that is normal to most here. I was skinny and looked rough to boot. Now I look healthy although to me am overweight but overall that is better. I suffer a fair amount of pain mainly to legs now but cannot figure quite how to solve this but to add I am very mobile nevertheless and very very determined to beat whatever is thrown at me these days. Hope you get your palps sorted...sure is an alwful feeling. BW Dianne >

Guest guest
Hi Bernie. I hope that I will not get perimenopause for at least a few years, being 21 and male. Guest guest
Diane, Thanks for responding. My heart pounding sensation isn't associated with any feeling of panic or anxiety, although if I have just walked up a flight of stairs I can notice it more than if I were laying down in bed. I'm glad they aren't bothering you anymore though. It's not really a problem for me at the moment as far as I can tell - I'm just trying to figure out what's all wrong with me. Thanks, Chris > > > > Hi guys, > > > > Since I became ill with CFS I have had a symptom off and on of the > > sensation of constant heart palpitations. Guest guest
My b/p starting rising during the first 2 years of Lyme infection, when I went into remission (pre-diagnosis & antibiotics) it was normal 120/70. When I started getting symptoms again, as they worsened, when I became very weak, my b/p was low (I was on low dose of beta blocker.)--90/60. I asked the MD (not Lyme MD) to take me off the medication. Mid way through first month of treatment for Lyme, (Doxcylcine) during severe Herx, I had a wide variety of heart palpitations and rapid pulse. I was too sick to take my b/p at home (or too scared) so I don't know what it was. Lyme effects so many systems that regulate heart beat & pulse: hormones & vascular & circulatory. Make sure you and your MD monitor your b/p closely, in case it continues to drop. You might need to stop taking beta blocker. I think during the first part of treatment when herxing can be severe, it's not unusual to have fluctuating heart rate, b/p and palpitations. If you develop chest pain and shortness of breath--that requires immediate attention. My LLMD instructed me to call 911 if that happened. The good news is these symptoms should lessen over time. Best of luck Kim [ ] heart palpitations? So I am on my 4th day of doxy, and I have started getting heart palpitations, I am assuming that is a good sign, meaning I probably have lymes and it's causing that? I have had sinus tachycardia (fast heart rate for no known reason) and I know that can be a sign of lymes, but I am on a beta blocker blood pressure med for that. Also, I took my blood pressure today, which is normally 130/90 on meds, and it was 110/70. Could this mean that lymes has been causing my high blood pressure and as the doxy is working, it is helping it? Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on that...Still waiting for the Igenex results. Thanks Bridget
Guest guest
Bridget, Shortly after I started treatment I had several weeks of racing pulse with a normal or slightly low blood pressure. Walking DOWN one flight of stairs would cause my pulse to climb from 90 to 170! My resting pulse during this phase was usually around 100. While I was waiting months to get in to see an LLMD I actually recorded my stats for weeks in an attempt to convince my primary MD that I was indeed sick! I guess it worked... the data didn't get me the abx I wanted but he did send me for neuro-psych testing! Of course the high heart rate meant I got dizzy really easily too. Also, ff your MD has not already checked your thyroid you should have that done. Lyme can mess with thyroid function and an overactive thyroid can cause palpitations too. -
Guest guest
One of the first symptoms of lyme I had was heart palpitations. My LLMD did have me do an EKG which showed nothing, but I knew something was wrong. Fortunately, I was also seeing a local herbalist and we increased the amount of hawthorne tincture that I was already taking for high blood pressure. With 3/4 tsp daily of hawthorne tincture, I am able to completely control the heart palpitations. As a test, I have tried cutting back on the hawthorne and the palpitations returned so I have continued taking the increased dosage for about two years now. Guest guest
Please be careful and don't assume, even if you've had palpitations every day that you've had Lyme. Palpitations and shortness of breath have been part of my Lyme symptoms for a long while, so I almost ignored this last June, wrote it off as " the usual. " Turned out I had developed a blood clot in my lung and got to the ER (gut feeling told me to go...gut feeling or guardian angel, anyhow!) just in time. Don't play with this. ******* " Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom. Guest guest
Agreed. Palpitations with shortness of breath requires immediate medical attention--call 911. Guest guest
Here, here! And if you don't get answers at the ER, see a cardiologist. IMHO, any reputable LLMD will refer you to one just to make sure. In my hubby's case, with atrial fibrilation, it put him at high risk of stroke. He takes toprol now and is fine, no problems. His mother has tachycardia and takes the exact same drug, toprol, and her heart rate is fine. She's been on it for more than 10 years. Even if Lyme started it, you shouldn't just let things go where your heart is concerned. Where would you be without IT? > > > From: KP <kmpelley@...> > Subject: [ ] Re: heart palpitations? > > Date: Wednesday, November 18, 2009, 11:36 PM > > > One of the first symptoms of lyme I had was heart palpitations. Guest guest
- What prompted you to get the palpitations and shortness of breath checked out last June? Did something change? My heart issues always scare me. I recently changed ABX and my heart palpitations and shortness of breath have gotten worse since. I'm guessing it's part of my herxing, but I'm always nervous. I'd be curious to know if you noticed something different. Thanks. Guest guest
I had none of the palpitations until after I had the lyme rash. It felt like a panic attack since I had PTSD [post traumatic stress disorder] when I was younger due to abuse by my mother as a child. Psychotherapy treatment resolved the panic attacks symptoms over 25 years earlier so when I began having the palpitations, I knew this was serious. My LLMD reassured me when I saw her and with the hawthorne am doing fine. I had no shortness of breath. However, I have known people who have had these symptoms and have done nothing and by the time the problem escalates, they end up with serious heart damage. My husband has had arterial fibrillation so I am familiar with that kind of problem. Kathleen Please be careful and don't assume, even if you've had palpitations every day that you've had Lyme. Guest guest
Anne, it was a little more intense than usual. I was getting them, along with shortness of breath, as usual. But I felt worse, somehow. Next mornign, feeling better, my husband and I went out for breakfast and food shopping. About ten minutes into walking, I felt really short of breath. We went to the ER a little later. Funny thing - all the tests were normal and they were going to send me home till one doc decided last minute to do an ct scan...good thing! ******* " Between stimulus and response, there is a space. Guest guest
Thanks for this further detail, . I actually ended up going to the ER yesterday. I was putting laundry away and became very short of breath and felt rather dizzy. My blood tests were fine and they did a chest x-ray which was clear too. I need to follow up with my primary care doc and my LLMD, but they didn't feel anything was serious or life-threatening.
