Guest guest
I was on Ketek and Flagyl for 4 months. I would expect a very strong herx after several days. I would suggest that you try and follow dr Burrascano's dietary protocol. Eat lots of vegetables and proteins but very little starchs and fruits and white breads etc. Grapefruit or grapefruit juice is not permitted when you are on Ketek. Ketek is tough on your liver but I didnt have any big problems. cheers Duncan > > Hi all -- I was seen by the nurse practitioner of a LLMD today. HUGS -- Lida Hello Lida, I have not taken ketek, my one concern is that you finished the IV Rocephin in November and have not been on medictions since that time. I question the doctor's LLMD credentials if you were not put on an oral mediciation very soon after going off the IV treatment. There are numerous other Lyme medications that you could be taking if Ketek seems dangerous to you. I have been on Doxycyclene, Ceftin(an oral Rocephin), Spectracef and Zethramax. There are many more besides these. I was on Amoxicillin very early with Lyme for 21 days and my GP doctor and I thought I was cured, but I had Lyme untreated or undiagnosed for 7 years by that time. That was in 2001. There are also a great number of herbs and natural remedies for Lyme that I now favor. Good Luck with your battle! Guest guest
Duncan -- Thank you for your reply and suggestions. Did you have any side effects due to abx other than herx reaction? How long has it lasted? Did you original Lyme symptoms improve after the treatment? Thanks about the word of caution about the grapefruit. I wonder why it was not mentioned. How are you doing now? -- Lida > > > > Hi all -- I was seen by the nurse practitioner of a LLMD today. Guest guest
Lida I thought any time you take any antibiotic that you need to take probiotics. I could be wrong, but personally I think this is what started my son's leaky gut- antibiotics and no probiotics many years ago. Guest guest
I love grapefruit so that was a " real hardship " for me! You definitely need to take acidophilus daily. Some of my symptoms have cleared up. I had constant pain in my left kidney (suggestive of kidney stones) and my bladder, and that is now gone. By the end of my treatment, which included 6 weeks of Mepron and Zithromax I was feeling quite a bit better, especially in my ability to concentrate. However, since discontinuing treatment in October I have slipped backwards especially in terms of fatigue and ability to concentrate, and joint pain in my left knee and hip. However, I was infected 15 years ago so I'm not too surprised that I didn't knock it out it one course of treatment. Since I stopped the abx in Oct, I have had recurring night sweats which have gradually worsened into my usual LD " unflu " where I feel like I have a flu but I have no fever, although I feel alternately feverish and chilled. Hopefully this will pass soon. I will be having another Lumbar puncture in January and then another 30 or 60 days of IV abx, them maybe more oral abx. I had some good news, bad news and good news today. The good news was that my IDS MD was able get me in unexpectedly today for my LP. The bad news was that he couldn't find the right spot, so after poking me full of holes he gave up and now I have to have it done with X-ray assistance. The good news was that my medical adjudicater awarded me LTD benefits, so I don " t have to worry about starving...In spite of my unflu, I'm almost bubbly cheers Duncan > > > > > > Hi all -- I was seen by the nurse practitioner of a LLMD today. > She > > > ordered a list of blood tests almost all the co-infections plus > other > > > things even syphilis, hepetitis. Guest guest
Dunkan -- Glad to hear your good news. Ah, LP too may attempts doesnt sound good. What are they looking for? What are LTD benefits? Ketek causes double vision the nurse cautioned me. Did yo take 400mg2x/day, and did you have this problem or any other? I also have had pain for over 15 years with a recent acute Lyme infection. Have you had IV treatment before? My night sweats improved after Rocephin. Good luck with your LP. There are numerous other I don't think Ceftin and Rocephin are the same. Ceftin is a second generation antibiotic and Rocephin a third generation. I would be taking lots of a good pro-biotic with any antibiotic. Guest guest
Lida We tried to get him onto an antibiotic protocol, but found out that he has alot of intestinal yeast and his poor diet contributes to this, so have dropped the antibiotics- switched to Diflucan (200mg) instead of the Nystatin (caused shortness of breath). Isn't very consitent with supplements, probiotics and etc. AM hoping that if we can correct a hormonal imbalance he will feel better and be more compliant and see that this really does help- also he will have to change his eating habits to see the full good of the hormone protocol. That said- he is doing better, less shortness of breath, allergy- type symptoms, better stools, thinking is better, feeling more rested after sleeping (still has days/nights turned around),no underarm yeast infection, skin smoother, heals sores faster- probably other things that I can't think of right now. Many people do colon cleanses- we haven't- they talk about them on lymestrategies quite a bit. I take the probiotics either at 10 am or 2 pm or Midnight- depending on what my schedule allows. We are all on CP1 thru Custom Probiotics and then I just added in one with Saccharomyces bulardii (tiny print- sp?). I've also been taking 4 Candex a day-again usually at 10am or 2 pm. I also take 4 Nystatin and 2 Diflucan. Yeast had been a really bad problem with my thinking for a long time and I don't want those symptoms back. I also feel slightly less achy most of the time. Take care Rose Marie > > Rose Marie -- Thank you. Is your son O.K. now? Yes I have been > taking brobiotics all along, but I wonder if one needs to also do a > colon clense? I still go through bad stages at times but they rarely last long & I am sure I do too much at times since I feel good. In July, the doc wanted me to stop it see how I would do & 5 days after stopping it, I regressed physically, mentally & emotionally. Since I got spoiled feeling better, I called his office, got back on it & within a few days it all turned around again. Many in this group have had the same response. I see my doc monthly so he can monitor my progress & whether or not I am having any ill side effects from it, so you have to make sure your doc keeps an eye on you! Maybe I'll eat my words someday, but I'd rather stay on it & risk side effects to be able to feel good again (plus I say my prayers & leave it in God's hands). Good Luck! I went to an IDS group and they made me go for the spinal tap. After the 28 day IV treatment they said that,s all we can do for you. You are cured. Big lie, I still have Lyme for the rest of my life. I found this Net site, read 7 books while on the IV and then knew what a great battle lay before me. The spinal tap is of no use what so ever. A small blood test with the right Dr. and Laboratory can prove to your insurance co, You need treatment and the LLMD will be able to help you. The IDS group will drop you and you are still going to need help. Good luck! Sidney
Guest guest
Rose Marie -- Thank you for answering all my questions. You and your son are batteling so much, my heart goes out to you both. Do you believe your yeast infection is due to abx treatments? What is Candex and what is it for? Foggy thinking is one thing I hav't had due to Lyme. Is it possible that Candida is more the culprit than Lyme itself? I have more problems with short memory and concentration and much much pain. Take good care. -- Lida > > > > Rose Marie -- Thank you. Is your son O.K. now? Yes I have been > > taking brobiotics all along, but I wonder if one needs to also do > a > > colon clense? Thanks -- Lida Lida, Sorry it took me awhile to get back to you. My primary problem was extreme fatigue. I do have pain issues, but I believe the Neurontin is helping me with that. That is a drug used for seizures, but also effective for nerve pain, etc. You have to work up to a dose/level that works for you. I take a high potency probiotic, one my doc recommends, once a day in the morning & I was on Nystatin twice a/day, that seemed to work well for me (if I increased either of them I had other problems so I stayed on that for quite a long time). Just recently, I shared the story w/my doc about success w/Diflucan, so we stopped the Nystatin & I am taking Diflucan as of a few weeks ago. I hope that helps! Guest guest
I agree that the LP is probably a waste of time but in BC, only a specialist can order IV ABX. I am also going to send a sample down to IgenX. My IDS MD will treat me for 60 days with a positive test and my LLMD will then out me back on oral ABX for several more months. I am going to discuss this issue with my GP and my LLMD. thanks Duncan > > > > My IDS MD wants to try and confirm neuroLD through a study of my > CSF. > > I think it's a waste to time but he won't treat me unless I do it. > I > > have not had any treatment for LD before the last round of oral > ABX. > > LTD == Long term disability benefits through my employers benefit > plan, > > so I will continue to have an income and access to my extended > health > > benefits. > > > > cheers > > > > Duncan > > > > > > > Duncan, My advice is for you to find another Dr who treats Lyme.
