Guest guest
Me too. Been down that road. I made the connection adn the neurologist validated it. Guest guest
No, I always thought I was allergic to all antibiotics because I would get so sick from them. I didn't know what a herx was back then. I was never on an antibiotic for more then a couple weeks, but I would get really sick from them. I think my bacteria load is really high. Or you just felt bad like you had the flu or had been beaten with a stick? Now that's a herx. I'm still debating with my LLMD whether I am allergic to Cefzil. When I took it years ago for something, can't remember what, it caused severe knife stabbing like pain in knees till I could not walk. It was terrifying and painful. A couple drs then told me that was an allergic reaction or blood serum sickness. So I took their word for it because I sure never wanted to take Cefzil again. My LLMD says it was a sign that I had Lyme then and the Cefzil was getting at it more so than any other drug I have taken. What he says kinda makes sense. So I think maybe I should try it again, but I am terrified of that kind of that med.-
Guest guest
I know now that I was just herxing really bad. I would just get really sick from the antibiotics. It felt like I was going to die. I've been on an antobiotics now for about 5 months. I got sick in the beginning, but now it's just every couple of weeks. Guest guest
I don't know if this will help anyone or not, but when i am going into a herx, I itch like crazy. I have read that this is the peripheral neuropathy " toxin " that builds up in the body. The itch always precedes the flu feeling. Most of the time benadryl does nothing. I also have rashes, but not whelps like I have with allergic reactions. I do think that I had an allergic reaction to probenecid years ago when I was treated for Lyme. I had little red speckles all over me like measles. I also know that I have severe joint pain when I herx big time. Sorry I am late in responding. cooky > > > > > > No, I always thought I was allergic to all antibiotics because I > > would get so sick from them. I didn't know what a herx was back > > then. Guest guest
Is it possible that these symptoms are realated to youe abx? I was cautioned by my nurse about the itch and rash and told to call if I have this when I start Ketek and Amoxicillin. - Lida > > > > > > > > > No, I always thought I was allergic to all antibiotics because I > > > would get so sick from them. Guest guest
Yeah I know it was a herx now, but back then I had never heard of herxing. I have had an allergic reaction to Bactrim, hives from head to toe, but this wasn't like that. I would just feel really sick. There were some other supplements that made me feel the same too. It all made sense after I found out I had lyme. Kathy > > > > > > > > > No, I always thought I was allergic to all antibiotics because I > > > would get so sick from them. Guest guest
I get itchy when I'm herxing, but not much of a rash. I've had allergic reactions before and can tell the difference. I've had the itchy feeling even when I wasn't on antibiotic's, from just taking supplements. Guest guest
It's interesting that I never did itch until I started the Ceftin- am now done with that and will start the oral Zithromax tomorrow- wonder what new challenges this will bring on. Guest guest
Lida, yes to be technnical about it, my symptoms are directly correspondent with abx. Abx cause a herxhiemer reaction with is the build up of toxins in the blood. These can cause flu like symptoms, pain, mental fog and itching. This is not an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions cause small pinhead sized red areas all over the body (or trunk) and itching. Your doctor or dermatologist will know the difference. Be well, Cheryl > > > > > > > > > > > > No, I always thought I was allergic to all antibiotics because > I > > > > would get so sick from them. I didn't know what a herx was > back > > > > then. Guest guest
One more thing I thought I would share...I have raised bumps (size of a pea) mostly on my left cheek that develop, itch and then fade to a brown spot. My dermatologist said it's Seborretic Keratosis, and benign. I wonder if it's really Lyme? Since this morning, I am using Coconut oil on it to see if that helps. It's supposed to have antibacterial properties? I also have some spots on my ribcage area that come and go with my fevers. Guest guest
I get something like that too. My doctor said he thought it was a staph infection. I use Bactaban ointment on it and what ever it is the ointment clears it up. Sometimes after it's gone I get a brown spot or a small bruise where the rash was. Guest guest
Oh yeah have all kinds of funny rashes, sore, lumps and bumps both on and off antibiotics. My experience with dermatologist is every time I went I was misdiagnosed. I had molluscum, she said it was acne, etc. I get what I now know are bartonella rashes constantly. I collect links for Lyme related rash photos, so I can email privately if you want. I recently came across a photo of an erhlichia rash which I never knew existed, but I've had something that looks like that photo too. Coconut oil is suppose to be antimicrobic, even cidin is sometimes used internally to treat Lyme. I never worry over the Lyme related rashes as far as treating them except when I get large bumps that I need to get lanced. My MD freaked out when she had to lance one of those for me and saw what was inside. I wish my LLMD could have seen it or had it tested. Oh and yes I get fever rashes. I think the fever just brings stuff to the surface. > > One more thing I thought I would share...I have raised bumps (size > of a pea) mostly on my left cheek that develop, itch and then fade > to a brown spot. Guest guest
I'm not sure what my rashes are either, just that the Bactroban clears it up. If feels like a flesh eating bacteria, it really hurts, and my lymph nodes in the area get enlarged and hurt. It itches to. It will not clear up on it's own. It will keep growing if I don't treat it. When it does go away I usually have a dark spot or a bruise left. I am a staph carrier, so my doctor thinks it's staph. They have never cultured it though. Guest guest
Kathy, Are you on an oral antibiotic for Lyme? If you are on abx ask your LLMD to switch you to something that will address both the Lyme and Staph. IF it is a flesh eating bacteria those things can get nasty. My ex had it and nearly lost his leg over it. If you aren't getting the treatment you need go to a different doctor and demand a biopsy. I learned not to go into a dr asking or hinting for anything. Tell them exactly what you want and if they will not do that for you, provided it is reasonable, then you can refuse to pay them. Case in point, I used to get blown off by doctors for years for the simplest of things. I finally went in and said I want a thyroid test or I want treatment for arthritis pain. So go get the biopsy and have it cultured. If they culture it they can also tell which particular antibiotic will stop it. > > I'm not sure what my rashes are either, just that the Bactroban > clears it up. Guest guest
I haven't seen a llmd yet. I have an appointment with one in Feb. I have seen an infectious disease doctor though. He has me on Ceftin and Diflucan. Ceftin does not keep the staph under control. He was much more concerned about the Lyme then staph. I had a huge cyst in my breast several years ago that was full of staph. They couldn't figure out how I got it. I had tests done and that's when they said I was a staph carrier. If I can get the lyme under control my immune system should keep the staph under control. They think I was born a staph carrier, but haven't had problems till the Lyme.
