Guest guest
Hi, Bree, It sounds like Lyme, rather than a herx. Herxes usually happen when you first start an antibiotic, or when you change antibiotics, or change the dosage. It is due to toxins being released by killing off bacteria. If you are not currently taking antibiotics, or doing any other sort of therapy (heat, hyperbaric oxygen, herbal antibiotics, etc), then you are not likely to be killing bacteria and not likely to be experiencing a herx. Was this a new, recent case of Lyme? Or, if longer-term, were you symptom-free for 8 weeks before stopping the doxy? That is the accepted protocol among LLMDs. Other infectious disease specialists who consider themselves Lyme experts use much shorter courses of antibiotics at lower doses. These treatments often fail, and in fact make the disease harder to treat in the long run. Good luck. D. Is this a herx reaction, maybe? Or is it progession of the Lyme? I didn't have these symptoms to this extreme before the Doxy. I go back to see my LLMD soon, anyway. Guest guest
i agree with ponyrubs.. probably not a herx for reasons she cited. if you need to get back on antibiotics, the longer you wait, the more the lymes has a chance to advance. id call ur llmd (ie not wait til ur appointment) and let them know about your recurrance of symptoms. that gives them the option of restarting any antibiotics over the phone, giving you an earlier appointment, and/or ensuring it isnt something other than the lyme. just my opinion, cfsguy Hi All: > > I finished my first anti-b (Doxy) treatment about 2 weeks ago. Guest guest
Thanks ponyrubs & cfsguy. Hopefully I can get in to see my LLMD next week. I'm not clear about whether this is an old or new case of Lyme, and not sure how I can figure that out. My test was negative, but my symptoms have been going on for at least a year, probably longer. (What qualifies as new?) This feeling in my arms has taken front row now, after the Doxy...symptoms used to be cluster headaches & debilitating fatigue, & occasional shooting pains in my arms. Now just faint tingles when I stop to think about it, and a feeling similar to the one you get after you lift something heavy. Like, a weak feeling in the muscles. The symptoms are playing musical chairs! > > > i agree with ponyrubs.. probably not a herx for reasons she cited. > if you need to get back on antibiotics, the longer you wait, the > more the lymes has a chance to advance. id call ur llmd (ie not wait > til ur appointment) and let them know about your recurrance of > symptoms. that gives them the option of restarting any antibiotics > over the phone, giving you an earlier appointment, and/or ensuring > it isnt something other than the lyme. > > just my opinion, > cfsguy >
Guest guest
Hi, Bree, I like the musical chairs analogy - very true. Yours would not be a new case. By new, I would mean that you recently were bitten by a tick, or recently developed flu-like symptoms with a rash, or something along those lines. Over a year is in the chronic realm. Can I ask how much doxy you were given, and for how long? And was this your first treatment for Lyme Disease? I sure do identify with the muscle weakness. Some days, I am very strong. Other days, I start to work (I'm a massage therapist), and my arms just sort of quietly die. I press into my client's tissue, and my arms fade into nothingness with that lactic acid burn that you usually get after doing something serious. Oddly, I can get myself functioning for a massage by doing some quick meditation, clearing and aligning exercises that I was taught back in Polarity school. Energy system over mind over matter. Even then I'll get bouts of sweats and weakness, but I can get through it by sort of disassociating, or by pretending to feel wonderful. A couple weeks ago, I had an entire week nearly symptom-free. Gawd, that was heavenly. Can't wait for the next one. All the best for your continued healing in the New Year. D. Bree <bree60@...> wrote: Thanks ponyrubs & cfsguy. Guest guest
Hi D. Thanks for the best wishes...I wish you the same for continued recovery. It sounds like you've got great perspective and coping tools: one second/one minute/one hour/one day at at time! It works. This was my first treatment for Lyme. I went to an LLMD in October after pulling a tick out of my shoulder. A friend of mine who's been treated 2x for Lyme told me not to mess around, since the bite looked " funny, " and sent me to her LLMD. I'm starting to think of that bite as divine intervention; whether the tick carried Lyme or not, I'd been feeling terrible (excruciating headaches, fatigue, weird shooting pains, etc., etc.) for at least a year. The LLMD thinks I probably had Lyme already. (We live in the tick-infested Hudson Valley, NY, with 6 dogs & many, many cats. Maybe it'd actually be a miracle if I didn't have Lyme.) I'm battling a bit of denial, however, since the test was negative. I know tests don't mean anything, but it is something tangible in terms of " evidence. " The doc put me on Doxy for 30 days, since I had a penicillin allergy as a child. I felt much better after treatment, and continue to feel better by comparison. However, I do have these weird arm-tingle-weakness feelings, and now an occassional shooting pain in my right big toe! What next, I ask you?! Time for a follow up with LLMD. I hate what the Doxy did to my guts, but if I have to go back on for another round -- it beats the alternative. Guest guest
Bree, Were you tested by IGeneX and did you get a copy of the results? They're negatives aren't always negative if you read the tests notes. My PCP told me it was neg, but I knew to get copies. I had the rash about 10 yrs. ago and the reg labs kept giving neg. results, then I tested with IGeneX. You should take a probiotic when taking antibiotics, not a the same time, but in between doses. This will keep you from getting diarrhea by keeping the healthy flora in your gut. jan > > Hi D. > > The LLMD thinks I probably had > Lyme already...
