Guest guest
Are you using a Psy Dr or just a GP? I use Psy and LLMD due to my depression and lyme. I would say if your only symptom is depression then I would begin to think like the Dr. When you have lyme you have other symptoms that go hand in hand. So, I would go to Psy Dr and LLMD for tx. Certain Psy meds for certain kinds of depression depending on symptoms and only a Psy dr knows what ones to use. Trust me I had some GP give me something and not follow the Psy Dr. He blamed everything on depression as well. Well, I wanted to commit suicide on Paxil, so I quit it and contacted Psy Dr and they said stop using it. So, you have to work w/a Psy Dr to find correct med. [ ] Are these psych symtpoms from Lyme? I have gotten a positive IGENEX test but from two labs I have been negative for bartonella and Babesia as well as Mycoplasma. My symptoms are strictly severe anxiety and depression with know other symtpoms. I have had two 3 month courses of antibiotics with no change even minorchange in symtpoms, 1 course with doxy and one course of Rocephin IV. My very well respected Lyme doctor feels that because I have had no response to antibioitcs, because I just have severe anxiety and depression and no other Lyme like symptoms and because mental illness runs in my family, that Lyme is not a factor and not causing my problems. Disappointingly psych medications aren't helping me either. I would really appreciate peoples comments and advice! Has anyone had just depression anxiety that got better from lyme antibiotic treatment? Can you test positive but the Lyme isn't active? Would love peoples feed back. Guest guest
My doctor says just the opposite the depression is from the Lyme and the IV abx getting to the brain can make it worse. You should also be treated for all the co-infections even if you do not test positive. The co infection tests are less reliable than the Lyme. If you have a positive IGenex you have Lyme. You also should consider genetic testing to see if you can detox the medications you are taking. Consider another opinion. Guest guest
Shift, Didn't realize we are all giving very different points of view. IF you had the Western Blott Igenex testing, thats an antibody test and you could have had exposure to the bacteria and not have gotten the clinical symptoms, at least in theory. Some people are known to be exposed and don't show symptoms until stressed or another health problem appears. Some people seem to be completely asymptomatic but have very low antibodies present. I don't think its been studied well. IF you had a positive PCR, thats harder to explain away. (especially if repeated positive by a different lab) Thats considered active infection by even infectious disease doctors. Do you have any symptoms of poor perfusion to the brain? headaches, neuropathies, bells palsy, long visual afterimages, hormone imbalances, stiff neck or cracking? I am assuming you didn't have the rash and don't have muscle aches, joint swelling, flu symptoms, since you said no lyme symptoms. Do you have the red cressents in the mouth that chronic fatigue patients have? How about low blood pressure? Just wondering what the Lyme doctor saw to start treatment or if he/she just went on the testing and psych symptoms alone. Other organisms can also cause psych problems. Toxoplasmosis is one for example. thats another direction to go too. Guest guest
I lost the 1st post I sent, so repeating but shorter here. I would follow the symptoms and treat them. If psych only, then follow those symtoms until they are under control. Clinical picture is most important - I think. Before you drop the lyme treatment you may want to check the CD-57 subset (blood test leucocite subsetting) to see if that is low. Its typically low in Lyme patients, and its been a good marker for me. 10-100 is low and 180 is considered normal. Heavy metals can cause psych symptoms. Any exposures? The blood test is not very sensitive and the DMSA challenge urine test can be too much chelation, so be careful if you go in this direction. Any exposures? Lots of amalgums, industrial envirnoment? Guest guest
Depression can be fron genetics and or lyme as well. I know I had depression long before the lyme. It is brought about when major things happen in ones life. So, if she is predisposed it may be a combo of both. That was my point. Re: [ ] Are these psych symtpoms from Lyme? Guest guest
There are a lot of different psych medications out there, so it may take a while to find the right one. Definitely see a psychiatrist to diagnose the problem and hopefully find a med that will work. Best of luck, Patti

Guest guest
J,I didn't have any of those symtpoms except low testosterone which could be from the psych medications. I wonder if I have lyme or like you said just low antibidy titers which aren't related to my depression anxiety. > > Shift, Didn't realize we are all giving very different points of view. Guest guest
Thanks for all the great advice from everyone! J, I don't have any of those symtpoms you mentioned and yes mental illness does run in the family. I am so confused as to what to do. Guest guest
Thanks for your info! What do you mean the DMSA can be to much chelation? I did a 24 hour EDTA urine challenge and my lead was very high, is this an accurate test? shift > > I lost the 1st post I sent, so repeating but shorter here.
