Guest guest
The CDC now has a website dedicated to CFS, which they now recognize as a serious, disabling disease. I'm considering having my doc look at it: maybe a CFS diagnosis will help me get disability. (I've been able to work about 2 hours a week for years now, but got denied.) Here's the URL: http://www.cdc.gov/cfs/ -Portland, Oregon

Guest guest
I went to the CDC site hoping that I could now get a diagnosis of a legitimate disease. I found that there are two problems with CFS. First, the recomended treatment is psychoanalysis to help the person learn to cope with the disease. Second, I found that I cannot be diagnosed with CFS because in diagnosing CFS one of the exclusions is chronic Lyme disease. How can the following be true? CDC says chronic Lyme does not exist CDC says Chronic Fatigue does exist CDC says the symptoms are not to be diagnosed as Chronic Fatigue if they are caused by chronic Lyme disease Here is the CDC statement and symptom list for CFS: http://www.cdc. gov/cfs/cfsdiagn osis.htm Exclusionary Conditions Chronic fatigue syndrome can resemble many other illnesses, including mononucleosis, chronic Lyme disease, lupus, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, primary sleep disorders, severe obesity and major depressive disorders. Medications can also cause side effects that mimic the symptoms of CFS. Diagnostic Criteria Your clinician should consider a diagnosis of CFS if these two criteria are met: Unexplained, persistent fatigue that's not due to ongoing exertion, isn't substantially relieved by rest, is of new onset (not lifelong) and results in a significant rEducation in previous levels of activity. Four or more of the following symptoms are present for six months or more: Impaired memory or concentration Postexertional malaise (extreme, prolonged exhaustion and sickness following physical or mental activity) Unrefreshing sleep Muscle pain Multijoint pain without swelling or redness Headaches of a new type or severity Sore throat that's frequent or recurring Tender cervical or axillary lymph nodes transmedic007 <vendetta33@...> wrote: The CDC now has a website dedicated to CFS, which they now recognize as a serious, disabling disease. Guest guest
So I went and looked at the web page for CFS from the CDC. One, all the symptoms they describe are LYME symptoms . Two, the diagnosing criteria as well as the treatment they suggest are completely redundant. They seem to be HUGE on " psycholigical treatment " as a way to combat " CFS " .. With that thinking doesn't seem like they've come very far at all.. They're still telling us it's all in our heads.. What a shame.. Guest guest
I'd love to see that: telling doctors that since chronic lyme doesn't exist, it has to be CFS. What're they going to say and do? I got the " biofeedback will help you with the stress and anxiety " bit from my rheum (who says I have fibro). My attitude gets a little better when I make time to stop and calm myself... who knew? LOL! Something's gotta give, and I'm too stubborn for it to be me! > > This is interesting....what are they up to????????
