Guest guest
On IN SHORT ORDER, Thursday, June 29th at 9:00PM EST, Sue Vogan will be speaking with Gill Reese with EUROLyme in the UK. My guest graduated in Zoology from the University of London in 1970 and has worked since then in various aspects of research and bio-medical science, with expertise in histology, cytology and electron microscopy techniques. In late 1997, this brilliant woman had her life turned upside down when she contracted Lyme disease. Since then, it has dominated her life. Gill Reese states, " Lyme awareness in the UK amongst the medical profession is sadly almost nil. I found this to my cost when I became very sick and rushed off to hospital in Oct 1997 with 'strange neurological symptoms' " . Over the next year, Gill was diagnosed with stress, chronic fatigue, menopause, arthritis, panic attacks and hay fever, and told that she was being too aware of bodily functions. She thought she was dying, so she carefully kept her diary up to date with the progress of this rapidly debilitating illness. She knew she was showing classical Lyme symptoms, but no one recognized them. Gill was left to find her own diagnosis and then ridiculed when the blood test for Lyme came back negative. She was referred to an Infectious Disease Specialist, then a Neurologist, but neither recognized her symptoms. Had her husband not found Dr. ph Burrascano's Tick Borne Diseases guide on the Internet, she doesn't believe she would be here now. Over the past few years, Gill notes that the patients lucky enough to get prompt treatment have a much better prognosis. Having been a keen horse rider for the past 45 years, she is well prepared for a 'rough ride', though she doubts it can be any rougher than the battle she has had to engage in to regain her health.
