2 grams is the standerd dose for treatment of lyme. Stay on it as long

as you can stand it 6-9 months. The picc line does not hurt at all.

Keep the insertion site CLEAN!! You can certainly ride your bike. I

have used cholestramyine for a long time. It helps bind the toxins

together for good elimination. Taste good with OJ. Sounds to me like

you are on a good plan and have a good LMD. Trust your DR on the oral

abx. You can take oral abx in conjunction with the IV. I did. Remember

you may herx right away. Understand, you will feel lousy before you

Sir or Madam (you didn't give your name)

I had a PICC line with the same drug, although my symptoms did not match

yours. If you do a bit of Googling on " PICC line " you will find a goodly

amount of info. IIRC, you just can't do vigorous exercise and NO

movements of the arm over the head.

Hi the pic really does not hurt only when they put it in. Oral drugs are good

but only after I did the course of IV antibiotic. as to the run or the bike

just use your best judgment I really would encourage you not to stop at this

point. keep going it the best for you. Bud

Thanks Lizzie that is a big help!! How do you take the Cholestramine

4 times aday if it has to be away from other meds vits and

antibiotics seems like a full time job any idea? ALso how do you

keep the PICC site clean can it get sweaty?

I tried, but could NOT do cholestramine 4x a day. It was too hard and

I was not able to get all my supplements in, and I was starving! So

after several months and about a 15 lb weight loss I reduced it to 3x

a day, and now that I am feeling better I just do one in the morning,

really early, like 5 0r 6 am. and One at night.

As far as keeping the site clean. I am active, like to work out, walk,

bike, and it can makes the site sweaty, especially on hot days. I

NEVER had any problems or infections because I cleaned the site every

single week. You clean it by removing the dressing, clean with alcohol

and use neosporen at insertion site, apply clean dressing.

Someone in the group mentioned that it hurt them to have the picc line

inserted. It did not hurt me at all and it only took a few minutes to

insert. I was pleasently surprised!........Lizzie

I'm in week 6 of taking IV abx (2 grams of Rochephin) through a PIC line and I'm

herxing like crazy.

I also take orals M-F Biaxin plus alternating weeks with Tinidazole. Last week

was a Tinadazole week and it was the most I've ever herxed (in 2.5 years on

orals). My symptoms are mostly not physical (anxiety, air hunger, facial

numbness, head crawlies, insomnia, headaches) and they all have intensified

since last week on the IV abx. This week is a bit better but I still feel like

crap. Is it normal to herx for a couple weeks straight? I'm hoping I'm finally

heading in the right direction but who knows.

On the exercise, I'm a big runner and was running up to 5 miles with the PIC

line. My LLMD said it was ok. I'm lucky that my neighbor is a nurse who also

works for BD so she has the tagamet(sp) bandages and PIC line kits so she has

been able to change my dressing when I feel it getting slightly grimey. Not

running as much now because of the anxiety associated with the herx (fear of

death and panic breathing doesn't make running enjoyable right about now).

Way to go you are having a major herx! I have had herxes last

two weeks. I hope you plan on having the IV for a long time, at least

6-8 months if you can stand it. Glad the Rocephin is working out for

Not sure how long I'll be on the Iv abx. Didn't think it would be 6 months

straight but will do whatever it takes. Is that how long people are usually on

it?

Glad to know its not that abnormal to herx for this long. Are you all better now

or still battling?
