Dear List Friends:

I shared this poem with one of my good friends, who suggested I

might share it with the group. I wrote this about someone I have cared

about and who suffered and still suffers from Lyme. A part of the effects

of the disease has been that it greatly impairs her ability to have

meaningful relationships While I do not feel qualified to make a diagnoses

of her condition, I can speak from my personal experience with her and that

of others with her as well. I case any of you can relate, I am happy to

share this little poem: - Glen

Detour

The road was closed

So I took a detour

Way around the town

For the longest time

No roads were familiar

Though a tavern or two

Were home for my illusions

It must have been

Her heart was down

For major repairs

I don't think they are finished with it yet

Though almost every drug they have

Has been tried

Those Western physicians

Are so primitive anyway

I could have been back years ago

But they are still patching

The handrails

And foot path

I don't think they'll ever get

To the foundation

Somehow you'd think

They should have started there first

But the road back

Won't be the old road

Or the old town

Or the old heart

And they won't let me tell them

The past is gone

The only pavement now between us

Is holy and invisible

It may mean

Crossing among the stars

Or over some yet unborn rainbow

In a vehicle only love can build

- Glen
