First of all, if someone really were " cured " they might not come here

and post anymore. Second of all, although I think for some people

(particularly women) symptoms may lessen with advancing age, I don't

think there is a cure to this illness. I'm sorry to say that. There

is certainly not a magic bullet if that is what you are looking for.

I wrote a very comprehensive post just a few days ago about what has

helped me. It is a combination of many factors, and it is

individualized person to person. It may take some work, but I do

believe for most people this can be " tamed. " But it's not going to

be a simple fix, and it's not going to be tamed and then you can go

back to your regular habits the next day. It's a lifelong commitment.

gets rid of Lyme. Or does it just turn into something else?

I'm 30. I've had this junk since jr high at least, but as my mom and younger

brothers all do, we suspect I was actually born with it. My doc says since I've

had it so long, we're not shootin for a cure... we're looking to get me " in

remission " and hopefully I'll stay there.

I've heard that some people who get the Lyme treatment very early on since

their exposure to the tick bite do get well. I've read that in the

literature. However, if you've had Lyme before the diagnosis, it's more

difficult to get rid of it completely. In my case, I vaguely remember

digging a tick out of my leg in the '70s, but I didn't get really sick until

the '80s and wasn't diagnosed until 2007. My LLMD now says my " mystery

illness " in the '80s was my first herx. The doctors kept telling me nothing

was wrong with me and that my blood tests were normal, but they never tested

for Lyme, of course. I was so sick that I couldn't walk much and had such

bad weak spells that at times I couldn't even talk.

Usually, as someone else said, you can go into " remission, " where your blood

might still show some infection, but you feel completely well. My friend was

treated for antibiotics for three years and after that she felt well, so

she's not on treatment now. Her boyfriend actually re-tested and there was

no Lyme or co-infections detectable in his blood anymore!

So don't give up hope. There are many antibiotics out there. Perhaps you

might be one of the lucky ones whose treatment eliminates the infection from

your blood. Only time will tell.

Good luck to you and don't get discouraged. We need all our positive energy

to get well-as much as we can muster.

I got bit in October 1999 and didn't go to the doc right away. UNTIL

it got so bad I couldn't get off a chair without help. It was in March

of 2000, I finally went to the doc and he said it was probably Lyme

Disease. He gave me 24 days of Cipro. It worked. In 5 days the pain

behind my knees was gone, I felt great. Doc said I was " cured " . He is

not an LLMD, but a GP.

I had no money for testing and no insurance, so it was a clinical

diagnosis. I have since been tested for Lyme and a couple co-

infections and they came back negative.

Well, in late 2000 the pain started coming back but not bad. But then

from then to 2005 I gradually got worse and worse, till I thought I was

going to die for sure. I mean I was at about 30% of my former life.

Sicnce he said I was cured, he wouldn't give me any more antibiotics.

So I was on my own with no money. At least very, very little money.

I met a gal down in southern Iowa on my way out west to pick up some

cars, and she had had Lyme, misdiagnosed, for over 30 years. She

assured me, I still had Lyme just by looking at me. She had been on

abx for over a year and was doing pretty good, compared to being in a

wheelchair previous to that. But she was NOT cured either.

Well, I got the book Healing Lyme by H. Buhner at Amazon.com,

and studied it and started his protocol and got myself some abx too. I

took the abx for two months, but it was literally killing my stomach.

So had to give up the abx. Then went to herbs only, according to

Buhner, and gradually got better and better, and also finally healed my

stomach with C-Salts from nutri.com.

I am STILL ON herbs, but on a maintenance dose of about 1/3 as much as

when I went at it whole hog. IT WORKS, people. But you HAVE to stick

to it..

The bad thing is: You never really get totally rid of Lyme once you

have had it for awhile. The good thing is: On herbs you aren't so

sickly and now I am at about 90 to 90% of my pre Lyme self.

I can live with that, especially since I am 67 years old now and THAT

is against me too.

You MUST NEVER GIVE UP! Keep at it. See what works best for YOU!

Herbs worked for ME. And many others too. BUT you MUST keep at it.

I agree with everything except for your saying that lyme never completely goes

away. Lyme does go away if you keep at it. It will eventually be 100% cured.

I have heard many reports of folks saying they had " cured " lyme but then it

suddenly crops up years later in stressful situations etc. Due to the cyst

nature of the beastie I don't think any regimen or protocol currently gets

it all!

I know of some people who have gone many years without a recurrence of

symptoms - and they figure they are cured. It seems like with Lyme

everyone is different and you can't really go by what other people

experience. So, yeah, I still have hope I'll permanently get rid of

symptoms.

I personally know several people with lyme. None of them have ever been cured

but some have had better success with some days without symptoms. I have

excruciating joint pain, fatigue, brain fog, ringing/buzzing in my ears to name

a few every day and I spend as many days in bed as I do up although I still have

very little energy to do much. I've been unable to work in my nursing profession

since being biiten by a tick in july 06. I haven't given up still trying to

fight this, find someone and something to help. Have seen many Drs including

llmd and hope that I'm wrong in thinking that it never goes away. Don't just

keep the hope and faith but share some every day. KD

Doug MacLean who is the inventor of the Doug Coil Machine makes the

statement that there is evidence that these critters can hide for 20 years

and come back given the right conditions.

I have tested people who claim to be symptom free and yet I can find

critters in the blood. This means that as long as they stay healthy and

have a good immune system they will remain symptom free. But if they get

sick or run down, then the balance of power may change and the critters will

overwhelm the poorly functioning immune system.

Another interesting tidbit is that in many cases a husband and wife will

have the same level of infection as seen in the blood, yet he will be

healthy or symptom free while the wife is seriously sick. It does appear

that for some reason women suffer more than men. There may be some gene or

hormone that is responsible for this.

Another problem that I have observed is that someone may have actually

killed all the lyme critters but gets sick from co-infections that can be

more serious than the lyme disease. There is a lot of strange stuff going

around.

The answer is to keep your immune system in tip top shape then these

critters can be kept under control.

everything i have read says that u may be symptom free, but there is no cure,

you can treat it but not cure it. and it can rear its ugly head in stressful

times or if you become run down and i have seen people who were fine and they go

through a stressful time and bam its back. but you can have many years without

symptoms or if your lucky and take real good care of yourself, it may never come

back.

So can someone explain to me why there is so much emphasis on treating

Lyme using medications that make you feel worse? I'm not talking about

a short term herx here, but rather the meds that make you feel worse

day after day. Why not just take the meds that give the patient a

better quality of life? Rocephin make me 'normal' - gives me my life

back! Knowing what I know now my guess is that I could get off all

other meds (thyroid, sleep, etc.) given the chance to stay on Rocephin

long term.
