I take 300mg of 5-HTP and 1,000mg of GABA everyday. I take 10mg of melatonin and 6mg of sustained release melatonin every night. I cannot say my sleep is perfect, but I can say that it is better than it has ever been. My doc specializes in people with screwy immune systems and says I can go higher on both kinds of melatonin if I want.

I am also having terrible sleep issues even on 1.5mg.  My doctor said to take melatonin but I had problems with it too.  When I was doing research I read that people with autoimmune disease should not take melatonin because it ramps up your immune system therefore attacking your body more.  On my bottle of melatonin it cautions that it may be contraindicated in people with auto-immune diseases.

Anyone else read that either?  Is it a good idea if we have auto-immune issues? Thanks.

I also have autoimmune problems and take melatonin with no problem

whatsoever. The conventional viewpoint about autoimmune problems is that

the immune system is overactive, but in fact it is a sign of weak immune

system and the long-term cure is building the immune system. I have never

heard this about melatonin and my own Naturopathic Doctor/Acupuncturist,

who is extremely knowledgeable, assured me I could stay on melatonin for

life if required.

There is a lot of information put out on the web, not all of it is

truthful. There are myths and opinions that are not factual. This is

frequently evident when a particular statement is only said in one place,

or the same single source is quoted over and over again.

In other words, I don't think that's true about melatonin. And since your

own doctor prescribed it for you, obviously s/he doesn't think that's true

either.
