My daughter starts LDN in a few days. She has Lyme Disease and celiac disease that is not healing. I talked with a few people who are on LDN for Lyme. Good Luck.

[low dose naltrexone] Something very wrong, advice appreciated!

I have been taking 1.0mg for just over 6 weeks now, and have been feeling "off" for about a week. Last night was right out of a horror movie. Full out panic attacks, heart palp's, full body flushing, feeling like I was falling (while laying down), persistant thoughts, etc...I was treated for Chronic Lyme (2.5 years) and came off high dose Abx about 2 years ago as I could no longer tolerate them. I have not felt this way since PRIOR to my diagnosis. Anxiety and panic have been the most troublesome, being caused by the coinfection Bartonella.LDN has been really helpful so far, and I am at a loss what may be causing this. I have just started a new batch (2 days ago) and will be calling the Pharmacy to see if they have done anything differently. I doubt it, but will check anyways. Please, any thoughts or advice would be very much appreciated. Also, is LDN recommended for use with Lyme? Thank you in advance!

LDN can bring lyme to the forefront. Sounds like you have had hidden lyme that

needs treating. LDN plays a limited role in late stage lyme.

Dr. Bihari sees only a limited role for LDN in regard to Lyme disease: should an

infected person develop late complications of Lyme, those may well have an

autoimmune basis and in those circumstances LDN should be useful.

My first suggestion would be supplementation of GABA and possibly also Inositol

to help reduce what sounds to me like an over-active nervous system, possibly

contributed to by the Naltrexone which initially (6 weeks is still considered

part of the adjustment period, as I understand it) can have the effect of

over-amping your neurons similar to opiate agonist withdrawal. Having

experienced the anxiety/unease of withdrawal during previous tapers, I know all

too well what that's like.

Some other supplements may also help, such as 5htp and melatonin at night;

L-Theanine (main active amino acid in Green Tea) can boost the effects of GABA.

GABA is the main mechanism that your nervous system uses to regulate its

electrical activity levels, whereas the opioid and cannabinoid systems are close

2nd & 3rd; when you have excessive activity, one tends to feel similar to what

you've described.

I hope this helps!
