Hi Shari,

Yes, both the doc & I think the Difucan is helping. Actually, the reason I

mentioned it to my doc & he put me on it is that someone in this group sent out

a published study done by a German doctor who was having great success with it.

The German doc had Lyme himself & had developed yeast probs, so he started

taking Diflucan, he saw great improvement, so he started administering it to his

Lyme patients & saw improvement again (close to the story if not exact!) I am

fortunate that my doc is extremely intelligent yet open-minded. His attitude is

that he can always learn from his patients too. Present him w/an idea, & he'll

think about it & then we decide together if I will try it. That is how we

approached the Diflucan.

I was already taking Nystatin, for both studies that showed high yeast levels

in the past plus the fact that I have been on abx. He was concerned about the

Diflucan over the Nystatin since you have to watch the liver w/Diflucan but he

is having me do liver function studies each month.

I can't say that I have noticed any side affects. Yes, he did prescribe it. I

am only taking 1- 100mg/day, I believe the German doc was taking at least

200mg/day, maybe more.

I hope that helps! I will look for the study & forward it to you, I doubt I

would have deleted it. Or maybe someone else in the group will if they find it

before me. Good luck, let me know if I can help further.

long have you been on it? Any side effects? I read an interview with a doctor in

Europe who puts his patients on rocephin for 2 months (or so) and then diflucan

for 50 days and repeats if necessary. I saw that diflucan is OTC in canada. Did

your doctor prescribe it for you? There are no good studies out there using

diflucan, so doctors who haven't used it yet, seem not willing to try it (at

least that is what a friend of mine is finding).

Thanks for the help

Hi Jeannie,

Thanks so much for your reply. I read the same interview with that European

Doc - that is what made me start thinking about it, then I saw you mention it,

and I wanted to check with you. Sounds like you have a great doctor - very

fortunant. There is one small study that was done with 11 patients, I have the

study. That is the only one that I could find. I think that I'll take that study

and the text of the interview to my next appointment and see if I can get a

prescription for diflucan. We are all kind of guinea pigs anyway, right? I have

been on Rocephin for 12 weeks and I'm feeling a lot better, but, you know, I'd

like to get all the way back to where I was before this all started.

Thanks again. I appreciate your help.

The study was with 11 patients, but he's treated about 80 or more

since then. In addition, LLMD's here are using it. There seems to be a

variable response. In some it is very good. I think that Dr. P in

Connecticut may be using it on patients.
