,

You are correct. At the start of AIH they told me to take aspirin only if needed for pain. Now that my Protime is so wacky, they would absolutely flip if I took an aspirin. Tylenol 1/2 strength not to exceed twice a day is what they say now.

It is so important to listen to our doctors, because what may be good for me, may not be good for you. Everyone is different and it always makes me nervous when we have these discussions about which is safer, Tylenol or aspirin. The answer is it is an individual thing that should be discussed with our own doctors.

Marty,

Actually, I think asprin is safer for your liver than tylenol. However, depending on how your liver is functioning, your prothrombin time might be elevated, which would mean your blood is not clotting properly. If that is the case, asprin would not be a good idea. Your pain could very well be gallbladder, but it sounds very much like my pancreas pain. Have they ever checked your amylase and lipase (pancreas enzymes) during one of the episodes of severe right upper quadrant abdominal pain? Please do contact your GI in the morning. Let me know how you are doing.

Marty,

I am so glad you called your doc and went to the ER. You are certainly entitled to a pity party! I do hope they gave you something to help with the pain.

Take care,

Marty.... I am glad you called your doc and was sent to ER...sorry about

the discomfort though.... I certainly hope the Aldactone helps out and

that you get your K levels back up....

You are only allowed 1 pity party a month and keep it short !!

Jerry:

At least now I know the parameters for pity parties. One a month isn't a lot you know. I am still "hung over" from last nights' party. Woke up aching all over and still hurting when I breathe, but took my meds and will go forward. I think I'll schedule my next party in advance!

Marty... I said you are limited to " holding " one party a

month....however that doesn't prevent you from joining someone else's

party you know.... we have enough members that there may be one every

day so you have to let others have a chance to host, too...it's only

fair....

Boy Marty I was at your Pity party and didn't even know it!

I felt the same way at the hospital Monday when you posted this! I am feeling better although I scare myself with how little energy I have & how much I am sleeping. Hope you are feeling better also.

Hey Everyone:

Thanks for all of your advice and input. I called my GI today and he told me to go to the ER which I did. After an ultrasound, abdominal x-rays and lots of labs they found: Ascites (which is new) and a low Potassium level.

No infection. So they started me on Aldactone in addition to the Hyzaar I am already taking and KlorCon (potassium supplements). They say that once I get some fluid off and my K+ level normal, the pain should go away.

I broke down during the ultra sound and cried all the way through it. It hurt so much from the pressure. I am still feeling very low and still in pain. My shoulder and leg muscles are tightly cramped up. I took the new pills 2 hours ago so I am hoping for relief soon.

Just another day in the life of someone with AIH/Cirrhosis.

Pity party at my place tonight. We can take out our frustrations trying to crack black walnuts!! Acutally we haul them out back by the wheel barrel loads and just dump them. Isnt' that a sin???

Love,

Marty (and thanks again for all the support)

does any one else have daily evening posterior on the left, rib pain.

I was bilaterial in September and I had shingles for a couple of

weeks or more, and before they healed, I had right chest pain

anterior and that settled into the liver area after a higher than

usual fatty meal.

The next morning I drove myself to the ER and was admitted for GB

surgery. The surgery is lomg healed along with the shingles.

But the r rib pain continues amost every evening.

I have had lyme 3 times. 1989, 2001, and spring 2004. I did a lot

of research on the net and found good information on neurological

lyme.

I went to the U of MO med center to see their so called lyme

specialist. He did not even see me. I was seen by a MD fellow and

supervised by a very nasty Infectious disease Professor who told

me " There is not Lyme disease In Missouri. " I was so angry I was

in tears. I am an RN and was treated with Doxy by Family NP and

MD's

I had a Head Injury after 8 weeks of Doxy in 2001 june.

First doxy was ordered by family doc, 2nd go round was ordered by

an ER doc at the U of MO. I was hospitaled with the head injury

for a week and had massive antibiotics IV while there, for a fx jaw

and shattered chin. I had a wonderful plastic surgeon at the Lake

of the Ozarks Med center. And surprisingly excellent care at this

hospital that had a terribe rep for bad care a few years prev.

In 2004 my horse unexpectly died as did my favorite cat. This

possible could also been from lyme disease. I had a dog 5 yrs ago

died at age five after having and being treated for a tick borne

illness, I thought at the time erhlichia. He also took Doxy and we

were on the same dosage, despite 130 lbs difference in weight.

I was so ill last summer, I was in bed, from pain, fatigue and

probably complicated by grief.

In August 2004 , I found a LLMD about 100 miles south of me.

With out going into great detail, I will say I have had excellent

care and most symptoms other than fatigue and rib pain along with

various other sundry pains, I am feeling well.

However, the rib pain, which at times is severe, is very annoying.

Anyone else relate to similar symptoms. And has anyone else had a

head injury during or after being diagnosed with Lyme?

PS I did my own research on labs and wrote to Igenex for a kit. My

family nurse praticitoner drew the blood and I had 5 strong to

moderate western blot reactions.

In general I have had good care, except for the U of M ID dept

professor.

If you ever have to see him again, you can always take a copy of the

CDC reports with you.

http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5317a4.htm

It clearly states (in numbers that a doctor won't refute) that Lyme

disease IS found in Missouri.

This chart covers 1993-2001.

OH, I am originally from Arkansas... currently live in Alaska. I

certainly understand your challenge with the doctors. None of the docs

up here believe anyone up here can have it.

Pink, Lately, the past few months, everytime I go up and down the stairs in my condo I get all out of breath, can't breathe and need to sit and rest on my bed for about 15 mins. My heart also beats fast. I did go to a cardiologist about 5 years ago and he did all kinds of test, EKG,etc. and said my heart was ok. I did have some extra weight on me but it was from meds, swollen legs and bloated tummy. So he basically told me to exercise and move more and I would not have a problem. I also did the stress test where they make up walk on the treadmill. forget it, I almost passed out. I cannot do that at all.

I am small to begin with, 4 feet 11 inches. Now I weigh about 108. But I think about 4 yrs ago I was up to 120 from meds. But I lost it as I had to wean off meds that were not working for me. My pain dr. at the time helped me to wean off my meds.

, 5 years your heart checked out ok. But things could have changed. If you are getting that short of breath, I think it would warrant checking into. I am asthmatic and do have a problem with fluid retention. I have to take a diuretic as needed for this. I can tell by my breathing that I need to take one before I see any edema. I go through the same thing, except I can also get out of breath just talking! I don't understand it either.

It doesn't happen all the time.

I occasionally suddenly out of the blue get this sudden sharp shooting type pain in my sides under the rib cage. Feels like on every breath in, someone is pushing a knife deeper into my sides. It hurts so much I'm in tears and breathing shallowy, which is not good for me anyway. I have no idea what causes it and it never happens when I happen to be going to the doctor. It only lasts a few hours too - not yet a whole day or night. I'm thinking maybe it's a muscle spasm underneath the ribs but I have no idea what would have caused it. whitneyOn Dec 11, 2007 6:11 PM, pinkbubba24 <pinkbubba24@...> wrote:

Have you been diagnosised with pleurisy? sorry not sure of spelling, this can be cause by an infection and hard to detect but a simple course of antibiotics can make that better.

Have they given you narcotics? Because that sounds like what you need. Sometimes that is necessary.

Re: Rib Pain

THE RIB PAIN IS ALSO THE COSTO CHONDRITIS UNFORTUNATELY. I CAN'T STAND CERTAIN TYPES OF TOUCH AS I PERCIEVE IT AS PAINFUL. GENERALLY A LIGHT TOUCH ON MY FOOT CAN HAVE ME IN PAIN. pinkbubba24 <pinkbubba24@ aol.com> wrote:

NO NARCOTICS. THIS IS S.W. KANSAS AND THEY EITHER DON'T BELIEVE IN GIVING THESE TYPE OF MEDS OR ARE AFRAID TO GIVE THEM. MY NEUROLOGIST GAVE ME SOMETHING FOR NEUROPATHY. IT SEMI HELPED, BUT I HAVE SINCE WENT OFF IT. I AM ABOUT TO GO BACK TO A CERTAIN MEDICINE THAT HELPED WITH THE NERVE PAIN, BUT HAD AN UNUSUAL REACTION. WE ARE TAKING BABY STEPS WITH THIS MEDICINE.Super Visor <luvanimalsgalor@...> wrote: Have they given you narcotics? Because that sounds like what you need. Sometimes that is necessary. Hi Joyce, thanks for the reply. Where do you live? I live in land near the Chesapeake Bay outside of polis, the capitol. I've been here for almost 39 years. Boy how things have changed. There is a lot of dampness because of being so close to the water. I have a creek just a few hundred yards from my house. Lots of fishing and boating. Well, let me check out some more of these messages. Be blessed! Shirley Godbout

Beth, I guess you figured out by now that this chest pain is called "costochrondtitis" which is inflammation of the chest wall. I have it myself but not usually until I get too stressed or too tired. Been hospitalized a couple of time to find out it was not my heart. You can never be too careful though if you suspect it's your heart. Shirley Godbout
