I started at 5.mg and increased by .5 over six months, about every 3 weeks.  I got to 4mg and decided that I really felt better at 3.5mg.  I have 4-5 days of fatigue, headaches and crazy sleep each time I increased, but it went away.

Dr. Skip did some statistical research and found that a significant number of people quit taking LDN because of side effects that they did not want to handle with the old protocol of 3 mg and then quickly to 4.5. For this reason, he recommends that one start with 1.5 mg for a month, then 3 mg for a month and then 4.5 mg forever, as a basic recipe for success. His philosophy seems to be, " whatever it takes to give LDN an honest and fair try " and I have to agree with that attitude.

If you have stopped the LDN three times in the past, I would think that it would be best to not push the LDN too fast this time. Let it do its work. If you are comfortable with 3 mg, then it might be wise to simple sit there for a bit and let it start to do its magic. That is considered a therapeutic dose.

I started at 3 mg and felt so good that I quickly (under a week) jumped up to 4.5 mg (I take ml, since I dissolve pills and drink the liquid.) I did start to have more mild side effects and backed off to 4 ml for a month or so until all was balanced and resolved.

While I still believe that most people don't need to start at ultra low doses like .5 mg, I am more and more convinced that there is also no reason to push things faster than necessary, unless you are talking things like cancer, where time is surely a critical issue.

I just know that this fourth start will be the charm.

BTW, I think that the " vivid dreams " simply come from being " closer to the waking state " rather than in deep sleep. When our bodies get flooded with endorphins at like 4 am, it is often common to wake up then anyway. Usually we don't remember the dreams unless they are just before waking and just under the surface. With the LDN, we are closer to waking and therefore remember the dreams we were having. My theory.

Because I have Hashi's, I was structurally required to start at 1.5mg, then

3mg, then 4.5mg. I do think it's a good idea to do it that way as a kind

of fail safe, as you describe.

I agree that most people don't need to start at ultra low doses, but if

more people were encouraged to take it in this slow and easy pace, there

would be fewer people quitting.

I've been thinking, though, that people with cancer or MS, diseases with a

strong urgency about time, should probably get up their dose as quickly as

possible. What do you think about that?

I'm very big on keeping things as simple as possible, but I do think there

may be some additional recommendations for certain diseases and how to ramp

into LDN. For instance, because of the clinical observation that people

with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome have a tendency toward high

sensitivity to drugs and also to change, that we should recommend the

3-month ramping for them. There would be fewer quits and stalls in that

group, I think. (Having fibro myself I've been paying attention to the

phenomenon.)

Thanks for everyone's replies. I have backed down to 1.5mg,

following Skip's idea of 1.5mg, 3.0mg each for a month, before

trying the full dose.

My biggest issue: terrible insomnia, I toss and turn in bed

for hours, esp. 2am - 5am, third night in a row now.

Ideas I have about this:

- try chamomile tea + valerian root half hour before taking LDN

- 10mg over-the-counter melatonin

- go transdermal: pour capsule into spoon with coconut oil in it,

mix it up, and apply paste to inner part of thigh. (Will order

emu oil, apparently that's better)

Nara,I have started LDN with a dose of 1/2 ml a day & went towards 4 ml. daily in about 6 month time.  For the first 35 days , i coudn't sleep . When i start having a good sleep, i was taking only  1.2 ml. / day .

It's only after 50 days that i start having normal night again. At that point , i was taking2 ml a day.So , listen to you body, don't hurry . Just finf the best dose and take all the time youneed to adapt yourself to LDN but don't stop taking it .
