That's interesting because the only endo I've been able to speak with so far said he doesn't like to use Armour with thyroid cancer patients - he doesn't find it to be effective. Guest guest
That is the prevalent attitude in endo's. The reason is that they are taught T4 only meds. Abbott Pharma is one of the biggest supporters of the Endocrinology schools. Only Holistic doctors and Integrative doctors will rx (for the most part) Armour. There is absolutely no good reason why Armour is not used because it has been used for over a 100 years effectively. I spent 6 years on Synthroid and totally lost my life. It wasn't until I got on Armour that I began to get better. There are thousands (literally) of us that this has happened to. Guest guest
Well, between us things should be turning around any day now! I'm ordering four months at a time so it's a long process to calculate how much of each I need and do the comparison pricing and deciding what new products to try/introduce. I've decided to try the metagenics cleanse plus ph though the sticker shock about knocked the wind out of me. I hope it tastes good and if it doesn't, I hope I can add it to my blueberry smoothie for breakfast. Yikes! I sure hope this works. Supplements on top of graduation gifts means rice and beans....and what fresh produce I can scavange for a while. For those of you looking for a cool grad gift if you have a techie....you can get them their own url. I got all four of them their name.com.. Cool gift and they can use it as e:mail, blog, website, or whatever..... I think two will probably start a business and the other two will blog.... maybe they will surprise me and start businesses as well. Anyway, checked with some other geeks and they thought it was a 'cool' gift so I'm done. Was more reasonably priced than most things and totally unique. Ok, now I'm taking lessons from Marcie and going totally off topic! Guest guest
If you are looking to do the liver cleanse with the ultra clear you can't add it to anything but water. The original has a vanilla flavor. It is a bit gritty but I just drink it down. I don't have an issue with the flavor. If you aren't doing the formal detox for 28 days (takes 3 cans and the instruction booklet) you can add some white grape juice to it and that tastes pretty good. Steph Re: Please help! Guest guest
Pretty much all the crucifers *want* to ferment, and there isn't much you can do wrong. The all-purpose solution for fermenting vegies is: 2T salt 2T vinegar 1 qt water Boil all together, let cool. Then pour over the vegies and keep the vegies under the brine until they are fermented. If you have a Harsch crock, the weights will keep the vegies dunked. You can also use a narrow-mouth jar and cram the vegies in under the lip (which is why the lip is there!) so they can't float. Or use a weight to keep them submerged. Beyond that, you can add spices as desired. Whole red peppers are good! If you are fermenting other vegies, like beets or carrots, with a high sugar content, then things get more difficult. Unless you add some crucifers to them (esp. cabbage). But I've never had a batch of cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts, or napa not do well. I don't think I've tried cauliflower, but it's in the same family so it should be fine. Guest guest
Hi .  Thank you for the great information!   My next question is: are there specific vegetables that need to be blanched before fermenting?   Brocoli, beans, or cauliflower? Thank you,   Jackie --- On Mon, 6/29/09,
Guest guest
Some people recommend blanching green beans, which might be a good idea (beans have weird enzymes/lectins in them which can give you a sick stomach). I haven't done green beans personally though: they are too good broiled! No, all I do is soak them in salt water to wilt them a little, or set them out in the sun to wilt a little. That makes them crispier when they ferment. Alternatively you can pound cabbage for kraut, but that is more work. Also alternatively you can toss the vegies with salt and just let them set til they wilt a little, then rinse, pack into jars, and cover with brine. The wilting, again, is to help them stay crisply. Also it makes kraut easier to pack into jars. Packing broccoli etc. is easier and that step isn't really necessary. You can just pack the broccoli into jars such that it can't float, and pour the cooled brine over them. Guest guest
Hi !  You are a wealth of information and help!  I was watching a video on youtube, and the person mentioned that using vinegar in cultured vegetables defeats the purpose , because it destroys alot of the enzymes I guess.   What is your thought on this?  Jackie --- On Tue, 6/30/09,
Guest guest
My thoughts? Probably " urban mythology " . Most of the bacteria you want are the ones that like acid ... that is, extra H+ ions ... they don't really care where the H+ comes from, but vinegar is the easiest. I think there is some confusion because the regular " vinegar pickle " isn't fermented at all, it's just doused in vinegar. If you use a LOT of vinegar, it doesn't ferment, it just goes acidic. A LOT of vinegar kills most bacteria. 2T per quart, just makes it a LITTLE acidic, so the acid-tolerant bacteria can deal with it ok. Enzymes are important to life, but probably not so much to fermentation in this case. There is a lot going on when you ferment cabbage ... I think one of the biggest is that cabbage have nitrates and other chemicals that make the right bacteria dominate. People have been experimenting with this for, oh, 1,000 years or so, and the cabbage varieties we have, are bred to make good kraut and kimchi. Add a little salt and vinegar, and you are good to go. Cayenne helps even a little more. Actually at one point I just left some Napa on my counter for 2 days, because there was too much going on and I couldn't get back to it. I had tossed it with some salt, but that was it. 2 days later, it was turning into kimchi! Cabbage seriously WANTS to ferment ... that is what it is bred for. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, Best to get the test results first- after all you may get a NHS diagnosis of hypothyroid which would the lead to treatment with T4- many folk do well on it ( you tend to see the 'hard cases' here who don't) this would then entitle you to free prescriptions for life- not just your thyroid meds. Guest guest
We really are getting somewhere to get these trials done at the request of our medical profession. Please folks add your signature to this petition. Many thanks! The Tyranny of LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone) Aug 10. 2010 | Comments (0) The case for politics in LDN. First, the systems that provide for research are unable to respond. The commercial sector needs profit which does not exist for LDN. The government NIHR etc requires applications from existing researchers or the pharmaceutical industry. These have been lacking for 30 years, so we can assume this source is cold too. So the systems for research are configured to fail to recognise a drug like LDN with no patent, no profit and a new medical paradigm for treating so many diseases. Second, because of the money involved and the need to change the systems to respond to pressure from patients who demand the research, we need the politicians to pass edicts that change things and make sure that a drug like LDN, with such large patient support, can get the research without competing for a ‘slot’ simply because the patients can choose for research to be commissioned. We as LDN users are saving over 100 million pounds a year in the NHS in the UK, and the same in other countries. This means that the money does not need to be taken from the pot for other research but can be accounted for in savings already being realised. However, only politicians can make these changes by recognising the savings already in existence and order the use of these savings to fund research. Existing research systems have no provision for allowing patients to order research. This is why LDN has never been accepted for research and is opposed for off label prescription. It is nothing to do with the science of LDN, it is all about a system not fit for purpose and about the need for change. Such a change carries the challenge of opposition from interested bodies who would see this sort of patient power as a threat to drug industry profits and investments in drug technology in terms of money and career choices by doctors. But it is the health choices of the patients that really matters, and currently, the pharmaceutical industry is not responding to the wishes of the market and needs putting into line If that is not the job of politicians then we need to elect different people. The whole point of politicians is to deal with social issues like these and the fact that out of patent, orphaned or generic drugs are ignored in favour of expensive and often risky side effect laden mainstream drugs, is a problem overdue for legislation. It is the opinion of us patients who are knowledgeable people about their conditions that no one has the right to tell us we cannot choose for ourselves. In practice, that is the system we have ‘grown like topsy’, and we are paying the price in lives, obscene amounts of money, and in fear that if we upset the pharmaceuticals, they won’t serve us. It is time to end this tyranny for good. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/ldnnow/blog Jayne Crocker www.LDNNow.com Important!
