Guest guest
Marlena, I had trouble figuring out who that came from. Thanks again. I got some potassium back in Feb when I had just incr levoxyl and was trying to figure out why I felt so bad. Sort of a premonition. Then I got worried I would get too much. Now I know my adrenals were too far gone from years of hypoth to handle the incr thryroid hormone I needed. Glad to hear KCl helps with detox. I was wondering if it was the incr Na that threw the K out of balance. Dorothy > I'm really glad the potassium helped! I was the one who mentioned potassium as that is > what helps 90% of my headaches (which I had previous to iodine therapy but subsequent > to adrenal support) - but I thought I was some kind of anomaly - LOL. >
Guest guest
hi Marlena You might wish to check this for benefits of magnesium chloride. http://www.health-science-spirit.com/magnesiumchloride.html bw nil > > The cool thing is that Dr. Flechas told me that potassium chloride helps > with bromide > detox just like sodium chloride does, because it is the chloride that > displaces the bromide > (so I've been wondering if magnesium chloride also detoxifies?) ... > *However the importance of good unrefined salt in one's diet is > independent of bromide > detox, as it serves many other purposes!!* >
Guest guest
I know some believe that 3-5 grains is what everyone needs but I am not in that camp. We are all different and if you can get the supporting systems cleaned up and stronger you may not need it. My mom is on 105 mgs of Armour and doing fine. She has detoxed her liver and takes 50 mgs Iodoral plus other nutrients. She also has the MTHFR gene defect so that is part of the thyroid cycle. It's not a good idea to blanket 'treat" everyone with high doses of iodine and 3-5 grains of Armour. It just isn't true for all. Steph Re: headache maybe you needed more Armour, and now need 50mg Iodoral. I get headaches from too little thyroid meds. Gracia I think my headache is from detox, but not sure. I am doing a heaping1/4 tsp salt with 16 oz water twice a day. Usually take a little extrasalt before bed also. I have been cutting down on the iodine, to 25mg, but still getting the headache. Should I go up or down on iodine?Maybe it is something else. I felt better today than I have in severalweeks at least, but still got the headache. Guess I will go do anothersalt load. Went from 2 1/2 to 3 gr Armour today. Am on 20 mg Isocort.Dorothy
Guest guest
so you are saying headaches could just be a detox symptom, not a need for more Armour? I had bad headaches on too little Armour. I also could only tolerate 90mg until I got cortef and estrogen! I know Dr. Derry used to START ppl on 180mg Armour, which would have killed me. my experience has been that other hormones like sex hormones play a big role too. I have been on 100mg Iodoral for 6 months and I think I may be able to decrease the sex hormones but I cannot figure out how to do it. in any case it would be asey enough for Dorothy to add 1/2 grain of Armour and see if that solves the prob. Gracia I know some believe that 3-5 grains is what everyone needs but I am not in that camp. You can use www.drrind.com to help you chart them. I would see if you still have low temps. Your headache could be from low thyroid, low adrenal, toxins moving around or thyroid aggravating a low B12 or Iron/ferritin status. Do you have recent tests for B12, Iron and Ferritin? > > > > Re: headache > > > > maybe you needed more Armour, and now need 50mg Iodoral. Guest guest
Yes it could very well be a detox issue. If her liver is overloaded then it can happen. She could take more armour but it generally takes 4 days or so to get it working. I agree that hormones play into this too which is why increasing armour and iodine alone are not the big picture. Guest guest
I am reading the posts and just catching up. I was just reading about you stating that 3- 5 grains of Armour is best. Dr B started my daughter on 1/2 grain of Nature-throid, every other day and she just couldn't handle it at all. She was up all night with heart palps and ewww just felt so panicky and terrible. So now he has her on a baby dose of, I think 5 mg. and she was still up all night. He has been working on getting her body in shape (with a few different things he prescribed) to be able to take even this small dose. So , NO, not everyone can take higher doses of Armour/Nature-throid. Some people have issues to deal with before they up the doses. Janie > > > her dose of 2 1/2 grains seemed too low to me. Guest guest
this is what happened to me as well. I had a partial thyroidectomy at age 22, and then no meds for 30 years. Docs told me my TSH was "normal" even though I was almost comatose. The only doc who did give me thyroid meds was Broda MD. I could not tolerate the meds (( and didn't go back. Now I know that way back then I needed adrenal meds and iodine and Armour all together. Gracia I am reading the posts and just catching up. Guest guest
I had pain (not severe) that went from my behind my ear to my forehead afterwards. It could be pain related to a nerve that may have been a little tampered with during surgery (in time it will more than likely pass) - I would only be concerned if I started running a fever or had a real severe headache (then I would call the doc at that point). Take care it will get better . . . From: R <silverlinejr@...>cholesteatoma Sent: Tue, December 15, 2009 8:16:06 AMSubject: headache I had my first surgery 1 week ago today. Guest guest
I have been struggling for the last five years with losing weight but I didn't gain weight with taking Iodine, just the awful headaches. I went back to 12.5 and still have the headache but not as bad as with 25 mg. Yesterday I did salt loading three times and that seemed to help me with water retention because Today I don't feel as bloated. I'm going to keep doing the salt loading. Guest guest
There are several things that cause weight gain (to name a few): 1. Hypothyroidism 2. Detoxing 3. Adrenal Stress (cortisol increase puts on weight in abdominal & hips) 4. Insulin Resistance / Blood glucose issues All are influenced by iodine - positive and negatively depending on how well you are balancing the potential issues. Guest guest
If I get headaches, I find that a salt-load almost always helps. Yes, iodine, by causing detox, can seem to bring on a headache. Guest guest
As others have noted, the headache is a detox symptom. Have you read the New Member doc? It doesn't sound to me like you are taking the full range of companion nutrients. Those nutrients perform a number of functions in relation to iodine, including making the detox easier. You say you are taking 1000mg of C, but the required amount for the iodine protocol is 3000 to 4000 per day. You don't mention magnesium at all, and that's a minimum of 400mg. You don't mention selenium, and that is 200 to 400 mcg. And, the unrefined salt requirement is 1/2 tsp EVERY DAY, plus more on food. Don't be surprised that your detox is painful when you're not taking the companion nutrients. If you're not going to take the companion nutrients as specified, you shouldn't take iodine. If salt loading is done, that salt is added OVER AND ABOVE the regular daily amount as specified above. hope this helps. -- > > > I'm wondered if it's normal to get a headache when you start taking > Iodine?
