Guest guest
I have read several posts in the past few days that lead me to believe that people are not using a doctor/naturopath/etc. to oversee their LDN use. That seems dangerous to me. I am also hearing of people mixing this and mixing that and weird things are happening. Am I off base here? I think I read on the naltrexone site with Dr. Bindhi(sp?) that the people who have the most success with LDN use are those who see a practitioner regularly for monitoring and follow through. Perhaps I am being naive because I have insurance, but it worries me to hear of people mixing these drugs and changing dosages randomly. Not meaning to offend - just worried. Guest guest
I think it is valid to wonder about people " fiddling " with med etc on their own. I also know that people with long-standing health issues often amass a greater knowledge of their very particular needs and how those needs may be met. Doctors cannot know absolutely everything about each patient! That said, I know that I have to be careful about thinking I know more than I actually do, particularly when it comes to family member and friends! There are health pros out there who give their patients (some of the patients, anyway) the means to direct their own medication, by means of PRN prescriptions, or standing orders for prescriptions. My doctor has never quibbled with me adjusting my own meds. If I do the research on something, doc usually listens. I think the key is to be an educated consumer. There is no reason why you cannot learn what your doc knows, and we each can know our own bodies infinitely better. Guest guest
Of course in an ideal world our doctors would all be active in checking up on our health when using LDN. My husbands neuro works at a well known hospital, specialises in MS, and therefor knows nothing about LDN! Their job is to get you on DMDs and keep you there! However, this doctor is at least able to think outside the box and has prescribed the LDN for over five years. We still have to tell him how to write the script though as he forgets from one 6 month visit to the next! He does all the correct MS progression tests and orders annual MRI`s and confirms that all is well and there is nothing new to report. My husband is probably one of his least " active " patients and we usually end up chatting about other things! Even without such an attentive neuro, we know the disease well enough now to see that he is stable and the LDN is in no way harmful.
