This is where I go too. And I can go online and request they hold a

book for me. Then I just run down at lunch and pick it up.

I take selenium also. Supposed to guard against cancer, among other

benefits. Are you using the sustained release ALA? The regular goes through

the system in less than 2 hours, and would have to take more every hour to

have optimal benefits. Its not worth the money, I think. I use Source

Naturals sustained release. I get it from iHerb.com.

Not sure, I get most of my vitamins from puritanspride.com and my

HD says this is a reputable place to buy them. They are cheap. And

between myself and my two dogs, we take a lot of vitamins, which can

get pricey.

==>Alpha Lipoic Acid is a vitamin-like antioxidant manufacturered in

the body and it is also found in red meats and particularly in organ

meats like heart and liver as well as many green vegetables.

==>Alpha-Linolenic Acid is also referred to as ALA or Omega-3 is an

essential fatty acid found in cod liver oil and fish oil.

>

> How about for people who also need to detox heavy metals. Is this

one better, safer than the DMSA, EDTA? I understand ALA is a combo of

synthetic and natural r-lipoic acid.

==>ALA (Omega 3) found in cod liver oil and fish oil is not synthetic.

==>It isn't toxic if it is derived from cod liver oil or fish oil. I

wouldn't recommend any other type of supplement to obtain omega 3.

>

> So. Is ALA okay to add to chelate heavy metals? And, if God forbid,

we might slip, is it okay to use ALA to counteract the 124 Ways Sugar

Can Ruin Your Health?

==>No, do not use to counteract slips or cheats with sugar. Instead

in order to alleviate your symptoms do the following:

• Drink clove or ginger tea – 4 to 5 cups within 5-6 hours.

• Take an epsom salt bath.

• Take these all at once, except for 2,000 mgs of vitamin C, which is

taken every hour (in addition to normal daily supplements):

a. 2 capsules of hydrochloric acid (preferably Betaine HCl with

pepsin).

b. 4,000 mgs vitamin C is taken immediately, and take 2,000 mgs

every hour until symptoms subside, or until you reach bowel tolerance

(loose stools) and then cut back on the amount taken.

c. Vitamin B complex 100 mgs, in addition your daily amount.

d. 500 mgs of niacin (if you can stand the flush; if you cannot

stand the flush take at least 50 mgs every hour)

e. 10,000 IUs vitamin A.

f. 400 IUs vitamin D.

Note: Vitamins A and D are available in cod liver or halibut liver

oil capsules.

Hi to all,

Two days ago i took 1 capsule of alpha lipoic acid at

600 mg. Then i took all my usual vitamins and

minerals and also my glucovance (combo of metformin

and glyburide). Also took my usual medley of tea of

moringa oleifera), turmeric, cinnamon, ginger (brings

down bp and bglucose and cholesterol).

Lo and behold, all day i was having chest pains. All

the while i thought it was because i could not breathe

due to my allergies. My bp was also elevated due to

this.

When we were in bed, i really felt weird like as if if

was going to have a heart attack. I told my husband

if i get cardiac arrest, don't panic. Just call 911.

I could see from his face he was afraid.

I checked my sugar it was 80. I asked for a can of

pineapple juice, i felt a bit better, but then again

felt bad, checked sugar again it was 78...going

down...Then my hubby remembered, i bought carbohydrate

tablets from CVS that was flavored. This huge pill

like carbs jacks up blood sugar. I chewed on one and

then drank water. Felt much better. Meanwhile i did

not realize that all this is because i should not

combine alpha lipoic acid with diabetic medicines.

Today when i woke up, my blood sugar was 150! So all

i took was lipoic acid no diabetic pills. Also took

my usual medley of tea in the morning. After three

hours My blood sugar is just perfect for me, 120. It

looks like i might not need my diabetic pills anymore.

I have read (can't remember where, old age) alpha

lipoic acid aids in diabetic neuropathy, and blood

sugar control for diabetics, and MIGHT even reverse

diabetes. Look at that....will try this for a few

more days and will let you know if it really works.

I am a 64 year old male diabetic taking no diabetic meds. I find the

combo of Alpha Lipoic Acid, Acetyl L-Carnitine, and Benfotiamine to be

good for me, along with my other supplements. Not sure which herbs

or supplements work best, but I have far more feeling in my hands and

feet than I did 5 years ago. My BP ranges between 96 and 103 over

60 to 65.

This is an important substance, yes. I use it in a an excellent

combination product with other antioxidant-type substances. Quality

of it definitely matters.

Claims/benefits: Powerful antioxidant. Prevents or treats many

age-related diseases, from heart disease and stroke to diabetes and

cataracts. The body needs ALA to produce energy. It is critical to

the mitochondria, the energy-producing structures in cells. Foods

contain only tiny amounts of it. What makes ALA special as an

antioxidant is that is so versatile - it helps deactivate a remarkably

wide array of cell-damaging free radicals in the body. ALA helps

protect the mitochondria and the genetic material, DNA, of

cell-damaging free radicals in the body. As we age, mitochondria

function is impaired. ALA also works closely with Vitamin C and E and

some other antioxidants, 'recycling' them and thus making them much

more effective. Taking ALA before and during a work out can increase

performance, help take nutrients to your muscles faster and improve

strength and muscularity.

ALA for mercury removal and other metal chelation should be taken in a certain protocol. 3 days on/4 days off and frequent dosing so that the metals do not redeposit themselves.Full details and Andy Cutler's protocol hereautism treatment/ I love that group and have learned so much. More info about Hall Cutler Ph.D's ALA and DMSA protocolshttp://curezone.com/faq/q.asp?a=3,76 & q=102He also has a book for those who want to know all the "whys" or have multiple metals. The group I posted earlier he will give personalized advice for your situation. The first thing is to get a Doctor's Data Hair analysis test ("Hair Elements" test, not the "Toxic Elements" test) We did this through Dr. Janet Starr Hull and also got an excellent analysis of the results (though her metal removal via French Green Clay is not the metal removal protocol I chose in the long run). All of her nutritional advice was RIGHT ON and in and of themselves have already helped our daughter immensely. www.hairanalysisprogram.com and www.janethull.com Liora Pearlman Moderator, Beijing Organic Consumers' Association (BOCA) beijing_organic_consumersNO CODEX! Prevents or treats manyage-related diseases, from heart disease and stroke to diabetes andcataracts. The body needs ALA to produce energy. It is critical tothe mitochondria, the energy-producing structures in cells. Foodscontain only tiny amounts of it. What makes ALA special as anantioxidant is that is so versatile - it helps deactivate a remarkablywide array of cell-damaging free radicals in the body. ALA helpsprotect the mitochondria and the genetic material, DNA, ofcell-damaging free radicals in the body. As we age, mitochondriafunction is impaired. ALA also works closely with Vitamin C and E andsome other antioxidants, 'recycling' them and thus making them muchmore effective. Taking ALA before and during a work out can increaseperformance, help take nutrients to your muscles faster and improvestrength and muscularity. In Health,Liz>> How many out there are using Alpha Lipoic Acid> to support their detox? I have not experienced this problem, but I suspect that the problem is oxidation

of your anti-oxidant. If you were to put your cream into an airless pump

dispenser I think the problem would disappear. Also, it will keep your product

fresher longer.

For me, carnitine was thyroid-suppressive. I felt awful when I took it.

See http://www.mythyroid.com/vitamins.html

Look about 2/3 down the page.

Has anyone considered taking supplement alongisde spiro to help

maintain a safe blood pressure. Research at Boston University, funded

by the National Institutes of Health findings may be of interest.

Quote: " The results showed that treatment with alpha lipoic acid and

acetyl-L-carnitine improved brachial artery diameter by 2.3%. It also

reduced systolic blood pressure by an average of 9 points in people who

started out with the highest blood pressure, and by 9 points in people

with metabolic syndrome. This large reduction in blood pressure could

have a major effect on people's cardiovascular risk, say researchers.

Best of all: no side effects " . (McMackin, CJ, et al. J Clin Hypertens
