I first learned about "taking a break" from the LDN from Elaine 's book, "The Promise of Low Dose Naltrexone". Later, on the LDN forums, I saw that Dr. Zagon says that not every one needs to do every night dosing - one of the reasons that LDN is still pretty much a trial and error - each person needs to figure out what dose and when to take it is such an individual thing. However, some doctors would disagree and insist that the "correct dose" is 4.5 taken every night.

Initially, I took 3 mg. LDN every night for a couple of months for my Hepatitis C (as per instructions from Dr. Berkson) - I read Elaine 's book and started taking a day or two off from taking it - then every other night. My first lab work done soon after this showed dramatic results in both my HCV viral load and liver enzymes. I continued with this dosage for a few months until I had other labs done which showed a very slight increase in my viral load. So I started taking it most every night but would skip a dose if I had a day where I did not feel the greatest after not sleeping too well the night before. Soon, however, I found that I felt better if I took the LDN every night - and it was reflected in my next labs which resulted in the lowest viral load number yet. Now, I do take it most nights, but will skip a dose on the days where I do not feel that well.

With that said, I am somewhat fortunate in that I have a disorder where I can monitor my progress through lab work; if at any time that things might go haywire down the line and my condition worsens, I would probably increase my dosage and take it every night - but for now, my own "clinical trial" seems to be working just fine. Everyone needs to find what dosage works best for them.

I have done this myself and I know others who have done this too - take a few days off and LDN appears to start working well again.

One reason I can think of why this happens is that if your metabolism has slowed down for some reason, the LDN can build up in your receptors leading to an overload. Could be only one or two days off LDN will be enough to clear them.

No guarantees mind you, but it HAS worked for others taking LDN for MS, and for me.

Unless you can think of other reasons why you are having these negative experiences

it could be a solution.

I hope others will comment also, others who have taken breaks from LDN successfully.

Have been on LDN for about 4 years now. However, seem to be in a relape as my head spins periodically throughout the day...quite disturbing... Was thinking about talking
