In a study done they found bacteria in the mothers

breast milk. Only in two cases. Very rare but

still... As for pregnancy, my lyme doc said that

there is a high rate of transferring the LYME. He

recommended antibiotics. I agree doesn't sound too

safe but I would also not want to risk it. Research

is a good idea. Best,

Ally

Hi I had very bad pregnancy and had to see llmd while I was pregnant.

It does pass to the baby. They will not test her though because she

did not have tick on her. I went on antibiotics in the very begining

of my third trimester. It passes in the first. My daughter was born

with heart mermer but that is ok now. She is five. She has some

problems though and it could be lyme related. She has selective mutism

.. It is unknown where it comes from. Lyme has many effect on the

brain. http://actionlyme. org/HOMICIDE_CHARGES. htm There is some

great scientific information as well as other. DO not breast feed.

Lyme disease association advicate passed it to her baby this way. i

met her personnally and her sweet little girl was very sick.

I have a friend who passed Lyme to 3 of her 4 children through pregnancy. She

was on antibiotics during the course of the last pregnancy and baby still has

Lyme. For what it's worth, her Lyme was kinda 'hibernating' (not causing big

problems) during pregnancy with the older ones, and WAS flaring big time with

the youngest. Of the 3, the youngest has had the most problems (by FAR) with

Lyme...and again that was with the antibiotics.

You can pass Lyme to your child through the placenta.

You can pass Lyme to your child through breast milk.

It is not healthy for the mom or the baby to be on antibiotics during

the pregnancy.

The high risk maternal/fetal doctor encouraged me to see a infectious

disease doctor, but they have already refused to see me.

Does anyone have any research on this topic?

Any experience?

When do symptoms of Lyme usually show up in a child who has gotten

during pregnancy? How prevalent is this?

When should children be tested, given their undeveloped immune system?

In other words, they may not have developed antibodies that can be found.

Thanks,

~

I too had lyme, have been treated and just had a healthy baby girl in March.

I was NOT symtpomatic before pregnancy and was treated prior to getting

pregnant.

Lyme is just one of those things that is touch and go....doctors seem to believe

in the lyme concept

during pregnancy, if you were bitten while pregnant. I had a hard time getting

my concerns

across to a doctor while pregnant,,,,and of course after the fact.

I was not maintanence treated while pregnant.....and I nurse,..,..I figured

why not nurse if the baby has lyme, she would have it from the pregnancy via

cogential transmission if anything

.. antibodies from the

breastmilk would help her more anyhow....

as a precautionary... I am gonna get her tested as a toddler,,, and keep my

eyes open for any obvious things, like reoccuring infections, unexplained issues

etc..

if you can find someone to treat you throughout on a low dose amox,,,I would do

that. My doc would not

so therefore I just took really good care of myself and prayed for the best.

SO far so good! Good luck
