Guest guest
Hi Kim, My daughter with Lyme had a non-stop headache for six years (she only got her Lyme diagnosis a year and a half ago. No medications ever worked except the IV Toradol and Reglan she would get in the ER, and as you say, not for long. Last June her pain management doctor did a procedure to burn the nerves in the back of her head and the headache has now been gone for these last four months. The procedure only took about a half hour and has made a huge difference in her quality of life. Of course, she still has pain everywhere else - Lol! I read the post from Tom regarding the Inderol - I have never heard of it before. Sounds like it is certainly worth a try. Feel better soon! Guest guest
Hi Kim, Since I am allergic to the Torodol and also the Imitrex I am afraid to try anything RX wise, but I do use Advil for migraines and it helps me. That and a dark room for about an hour with a cold cloth on my forehead and eyes. It really helps if someone can come in and keep changing the cool towel for you. Jacqi -------Original Message------- Hi, Just wondering if anyone suffers from SEVERE debilitation headaches from the Lyme. It was one of my very fist symptoms years ago. It seems like the change in the weather makes them worse. I ended up in the ER yesterday...they gave me hydration, oxygen and IV Toradol and Reglan. It got rid of the excruciated pain but today I still have a headache. I have things like fioricet and Tylenol # 3.....none of that seems to work. Just wondering what every one Else's experience is. My son's b-day is Saturday......he will be 9. I am PRAYING that the headache eases up by then. Thanks..... Kim

Guest guest
I've had migraines for years and the Lyme headache is similar but definitely not the same. Thankfully I've found relief from the Lyme headache through the newer migraine drugs, Imitrex or Maxalt. While the headache doesn't actually go away, it dials it back-way back and they don't space you out like the opiates. Ask your Dr. for samples until you know if they help you, these are expensive drugs. Lynn
Guest guest
Kim, Just a thought... since Lyme can cause meningitis, which causes headaches, is there a way to have that checked? Does your LLMD know you ended up in the hospital due to the headaches? One of my kids is 9, and it's soooo frustrating to not be able to do all that I want with my children! I will say a prayer for you. I have a birthday party this week too - whew! Just 3 short errands did me in yesterday, how can I handle a party right now? (sigh) Hope your headaches subside. Guest guest
Also, I didn't elaborate on the Inderal earlier - it's not an opiate or conventional pain med - it's a beta-blocker, used for migraines, high blood pressure, " fear of flying " , etc. It really has been a God-send for me. Guest guest
Hi, I'm going to try and answer four here - The procedure is called an ablation. It was done in the pain management doctor's facility, might be outpatient somewhere else. Involves lasers. My daughter was given something to make her very groggy, but supposedly not put out, though she was asleep when she came out. They determine if it will work by doing two earlier procedures with injecting Lydocaine into the scalp (in this case at the base of her skull). If it works, within fifteen hours the pain abates and that lasts two to three weeks. They do this a second time to be sure the first was not just a fluke. If that works, then they do the ablation. This may or may only last for about a year, or forever, depends on the patient . Since my daughter is just now eighteen, I suppose the nerves may recover eventually. Hopefully by that time the Lyme will be under control and that would preclude more headaches. She has had regular headaches on occasion since, but says they are different and Tylenol usually works. For us, Imitrex only worked on the rare occasions when she would have a migraine on top of the constant headache. You are right, Imitrex is VERY expensive, but works completely within fifteen minutes if it is a true migraine. Also, if you try it, insist on the nasal spray, the oral is nowhere near as effective, but that's what they like to give. The test for bacterial meningitis is a spinal tap. It is a sudden onset and becomes critical within hours or a day, so that is not what these headaches are. Viral meningitis is less serious and supposedly resolves itself within a week or so, so I don't believe it is causing these headaches either. The Inderol sounds very promising and if we were still dealing with headaches, I would certainly give it a try. It is true that with all the misery there is involved with Lyme, having a headache on top of it all is just tooo much! Blessings to you all. Guest guest
Kim I too suffer from Lyme headaches and boy are they wicked. I have been off abx's for almost 4 months know and I am feeling pretty good except for the head bangers. I have tried everything from aspirin to oxie and nothing seem to help. I to had that procedure where the shoot you in the back of th neck and let me tell you I wouldn't wish that on anyone even my insurance company. I had such a bad reaction I really though I was going to die. I find that if the pressure drops my head hurts soooo bad. I still herx and when I am about to get a headache my face gets very red and hot, like I have sat out in the sun. Advil migraine seems to help take some of the pressure off. You might want to give it a try. It won't take all the pain away but every little bit helps. Drink lots of water too. Hope your head feels better befor the party.
