Guest guest
Honey, Chronic fatigue disorder is not a disease that one can receive a positive test for in the same way one can test positive for Lyme disease. CFD is a list of symptoms that can be caused by several diseases. Lyme however is an actual bacterial infection. His doctor may have told him he had enough of the symptoms to be classified as " Chronic fatigue disorder " . Bowen research did a study of 500 patients who had received a diagnosis of CFD by clinical symptoms, and all tested positive for Lyme disease. (Of course virtually everyone tests positive for Bb bacteria according to them anyways, but that's another story.) But I think no matter what material you read about Lyme, or any one in this group will probably tell you the same thing, as well as myself, that Lyme disease is produces CFD in the vast majority of us. And in fact many have probably had a diagnosis of CFD before they had a Lyme diagnosis, just like your husband. clearsearcher1 honey_wont_dew <honey_wont_dew@...> wrote: Recently my husband went to the doctor for upper respiratory problems. He was placed on more antiobotics and is better now. While at the doctor, he was told that he tested positive for Chronic Fatigue disorder three years ago but was given no treatment. He was given one month of treatment for lymes. He was given the Elisha test at that time and it was negative. Three months ago he was diagnosisedwith Lyme disease and is in the Chronic stages. My question is if it is common to have the Chronic Fatigue test come back positive when you have Lyme disease or are we dealing with both disorders. Any feedback would be helpful. Any feedback would be helpful. It is quite common to either be completely mis-diagnosed with things such as FMS, CFS, MS as well as getting them as side diagnosis. Lyme causes many systems to be out of whackm from nerves to muscles to organs. I have Lyme, which has caused, CFS, FMS, myofacial pain syndrome , just to name a few. So to answer your question, yes, you can get all those differential diagnosis on top of the Lyme. This website lists all the symptoms, treatments etc for Lyme. http://library.lymenet.org/domino/file.nsf/bbf2f15334c1f28585256613000317cc/ 9c1ac876bb7897f5852568ec0056eb02?OpenDocument Best of luck! Guest guest
I am very puzzled at the idea of a positive test for chronic fatigue. Was this a blood test? Don't think there is a definitive test for chronic fatigue. You might want to look at some websites on chronic fatigue, at least for the testing angle. They may not, however, recognize that these symptoms can be caused by Lyme disease, so what you really need is a Lyme expert, one recommended by other patients. They are rare, hard to find, partly because of the controversies over diagnosis and treatment.
Guest guest
I know of more than one person who has been diagnosed with chronic fatigue and Lyme disease. I know that there are tests that can prove that someone has chronic fatigue instead of fibromyalgia. My support group leader sees Dr. Cheney, who is pretty much the guru of chronic fatigue, and he thinks that she has both. A lot of doctors in the Dallas-Fort Worth area do not think that lyme's is endemic to this area. I have personally seen someone with a bullseye rash before that had not been out of the DFW area and had not been in any weedy or wooded areas. I think that there are a lot more people in this area who have Lyme's but have not been diagnosed. I am moving to a rural area in north Oklahoma where there are a lot of deerticks. My mom had the bullseye rash a number of years ago and I think my dad is one of those people who doesn't develop the rash. He has found a number of ticks on him throughout the 24 years they have lived there. I think it would be a good idea for him to be tested just to be safe. It just doesn't pay to be the person in the family with the most medical knowledge because no one ever listens to you. > Recently my husband went to the doctor for upper respiratory > problems. Guest guest
< Don't think there is a definitive test for chronic fatigue.> I believe there is a blood test for your Immune system....which I believe if that is low......they will dx you with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Guest guest
Craig - it is NOT true that virtually everyone tests positive for Bb through Bowen. They have a highly accurate test because it is so specific and sensitive. And, their method is " eyeball to eyeball, " so to speak. Bowen is a research lab and insurance won't pay....but right now it might just be the only lab to use when you're deciding if it's the best time to quit treatment....or if you have to pursue more little buggers. Guest guest
Elaine, I am not giving my personal opinion. I have no opinion on them. I am just passing along what their own sight says. They themselves admit that virtually everyone who tests, tests positive. And by the way, that is not a criticism of the test. If they are getting that many positive tests, perhaps we need to reevaluate our understanding of Lyme. If it was an anti-body test, that might be another story. But if illuminating the bugs allows you to actually see them, then criticising the test for being " too sensitive " as I have heard some doctors claim, is kind of like criticising using binoculars too see trees in the forest, claiming that one shouldn't be seeing trees in every forest. Maybe that's not the best analogy, but you get my point. Craig Elaine Kallas <kallase@...> wrote: Craig - it is NOT true that virtually everyone tests positive for Bb through Bowen.
