Guest guest
Mepron is the replacement for Quinine in Babesia treatment. It works best taken with an antibiotic and is a limited treatment that might have to be repeated in the future, but doesn't go on like antibiotic treatment does. I didn't take Ketek with it because Ketek wasn't out yet at the time. I was prepared to get really sick on the stuff but I found it to not be too bad compared with IV, some orals I had been on, etc...I think its individual. I think that maybe I took Biaxin with it. Prepare yourself because it is bright yellow and has a consistency like paint! Also, it is really expensive. I don't have insurance for meds (and I'm not sure if Mepron would be covered anyway,) but the LLMD's office sponsored me into a patient assistance program through Glaxo wellcome (I think,) that paid for the Mepron. I recently was on Plaquinil and Ketek for quite a while and I found the Ketek didn't give me any problems. Apparently it gives some people blurry vision and also there are some die off reactions, but again I found it to be pretty easy on me. I do well on Plaquinil so maybe that was why I was doing OK. Alas, now I have to see how I do off of meds to see if any of this has stuck. Good luck, Melina
