> I just tested positive for Lyme through the WB at Igenex. My IGM positive

and IGG negative. Is this for real or are there many false positives w/this

lab? I have been ill for 9 years now w/CFS/Fibro and a bunch of other

conditions. I am on 300mg doxy right now..day 10 and notice nothing, no

herx. I am just doubting my dx of Lyme since I dont' think I have been

bitten and I have taken other abx over the years w/o a herx. Anyone know

how often this lab has false positives?

It is very common not to herx on abx, there are several I had no effects

from and a few that sent me into an evil herx. I dont think there are many

false positives at all, think there are 100x's more false negatives. A lot

of people never recall a bite and if it was from a nymphal tick, it was the

size of a period....... and hard to miss add to that the fact that barely a

1/3rd of bites produce a rash and its even harder to miss.

I did the entire 'you have MS, FMS, CFS yadayada yada and even thrown in

the 'you just want to be ill' routine, not fun. I went nearly 2 decades

w/wrong dxes and all I have to show is permanent SSD. Make sure, in your

own mind, what you have, do the research, lymenet.org has a great diagnostic

tool in its 2000 guidelines for diagnosing and treating Lyme disease. Lyme

is first and foremost a clinical diagnosis, do you fit those symptoms etc.

Oh, to add, I do have MS, FMS and CFS, but they are all caused by Lyme.

Take care,

Ever since my llmd dumped me (raised his rates and dumped all is old-

rate patients for " whatever " reason) I think everything is b.s. -

maybe Igenex is too.

So what if I, if anyone, tests positive with Igenex. I think the

llmd's stick together for political and economical reasons. Maybe

lyme is a real disease, but the political/economical ramifications

of lyme will corrupt the care just as sure as anything. It sure did

with me - as well as with one after another of the patients of the

llmd I was seeing. Call me " cynical? " Call it a " herx. " They

would. Go to an endocriologist, Suz. It might not be Lyme.

Sandy,

I think it was positive by CDC based on my bands. I had 23-25, 30, 39, 41, 58,

66, positive. I think if two of the bands 23-25, 39, or 41 are positive it is

cdc positive..right?

These were IGM positive, IGG is negative.

Thanks,

Suz

You can show bands in IgG or IgM and still be negative per the test

because they use CDC surveillance criteria. You have to ask, why do I show

such-and-such bands, if I am truly negative ( bands are reactions to the

Lyme DNA, well, not all bands are, confused? LOL) Like Connie stated, Lyme

is a clinical dx.
