Chris- I was treated for Lyme (positive test) from 1997-2000 and did

one year of orals (did nothing) before starting bicillin injections,

first once a week than every other week as I was feeling better. I

did the shots for two years and stopped when I felt 100%. I just

started showing symptoms again, this past October, and we think its a

reinfection. I work with wildlife and am outdoors alot. This time I

got two negative tests and one equivocal and started treatment with

orals, again, and was allergic to two different ones. So, I'm on

bicillin shots, again, and am doing really well. Just did 7 and have

3 more to go. They are once a week.

Hi Jessie,

My name is Joanne and I live in Rhode Island. I was

diagnosed with lyme in 2002, but they think I had it

for over 10 years before the diagnosis. I was treated

with bicillin shots for over a year before they tried

IV antibiotics. Personally, I did better with the

bicillin shots, as I had a lot of complications with

the IV (clafarin (sp?) and primaxin). Once I went off

the IV, I went back to the bicillin shots for another

six months, but didn't get as much benefit as the

first round.

Right now, I'm only being treated for the arthritis,

sleep problems and depression...the doctor wants to

see how I do off the antibiotics for awhile.

Hope that helps a little,

Joanne

Butt darts? Jessie!! Actually, a most appropriate name! It is NOT a

fun game. A warning, butt darts hurt! The larger the dartboard, the

easier the game over the long haul. Bicillin is very thick and

requires a medium to large dart and a slow injection, to get the thick

goo right into the muscle of the dartboard. Instead of doing the

injection twice a week, I did a larger dose 2,4 units once a week.

Other than the pain of the injection, scar tissue build up and

herxing, I had no other side effects. My husband, who happens to be a

paramedic, did the injections. If you are serious about trying this, a

nurse can show a friend or family member how to do the injection. This

requires a lot of trust on the dart thrower and the dartboard. The

cost is approx $850-900.00 for a box of 10-2,4 units, and half that

amount for the 1,2 units bicillin. Feel free to send me a private

email if you have any further questions..Lizzie

I am having Bicillin IM injections for the second time. 2.4 million units twice

per week. My physician recommends injecting half the syringe into one buttock

and the other half in the other side. This helps prevent knots and lumps from

forming. I had 6.5 weeks worth the first time around when I was extremely ill,

and it helped me tremendously. My doc recommended a longer course of treatment;

however, I could not do it financially, so I had to settle for the 6.5 weeks.

Now I am undergoing approximatley 8 weeks, which will also have to suffice. I

herxed terribly the first couple of doses this time around and last night was

pretty bad after getting the shots yesterday afternoon, but it does help to keep

me going. It never brings me back to 100% capacity, but personally, I believe I

will never never be completely well again. I am grateful to be able to function

at maybe 60% of my pre-Lyme capacity. I still do things slowly, am forgetful,

have pain, but I am thinking more clearly thanks to the Bicillin. It has worked

well for me, but each of my LLMD's have recommended IV ABX. I will probably

undergo this at the end of the year when I have insurance.

Butt Darts is a good name for the Bicillin injections. The needle is long and

heavy guage. I have gotten used to it, though, and it really isn't too bad when

you get the shots. It's the mental antcipation and anxiety that blows it out of

proportion for me. Some days I dread and fear getting them, but when I get

stuck it's really not bad. I think we are able to control our thoughts to

overcome the anxiety of it. My personal belief in the atonement and crucifixion

of Jesus Christ helps me accept the needles. He was crucified with large

spikes, and if he could endure that for me, I can endure the Bicillin Butt Darts

to improve my health. I hope this helps.

Lizzie,

The shots don't sound like fun, so besides the scar tissue and

Herxing, are you feeling better? Do you think they work?

Joanne,

Thanks for responding. It sounds like the shots can help, but like

any treatment with Lyme, the success of it depends on the

individual. We all have to use the trial-and-error method!

I hope you find that you don't need antibiotics again.

Thanks, Chris. I'm curious about what has worked for you. Have you

tried IV abx?

Thanks, Tina. I'm gaining a better understanding of how butt darts

work (and clearly, the name is right on " target " !).

HI JESSIE,

THE BICILLIN SHOTS WERE KILLING OFF BB, BUT MY LLMD HAD A SUSPECIAN

THAT BY OTHER SYMPTOMS I WAS EXHIBITING, I MAY HAVE BABESIA. I HAD THE

SHAKING CHILLS AND WAS WAKING UP GASPING, THIS HAD BEEN GOING ON FOR

YEARS. SHE WANTED TO TAKE ME OFF BICILLIN AND TREAT THE BABS. SHE ALSO

TESTED ME FOR BARTENELLA AND I HAD A STRONG POSITIVE THROUGH A WESTERN

BLOT. I FINISHED TREATMENT FOR THE BABS AND AM CURRENTLY BEING TREATED

FOR BARTENELLA. WHEN WE FINISH IN A MONTH OR TWO I WILL GO BACK ON THE

BICILLIN INJECTIONS FOR THE BB. PRESENTLY I AM EXPERIENCING A MAJOR,

INTENSE HERX. I AM ON MINOCYCLINE AND KETEK...WOW!! LIZZIE
