With Wednesday being the deadline for the OPMC Reform bill to either become law

or die, I'm getting inceasingly worried.

It's so frustrating because there really are enough people here on to

make a significant impact on the Governor.

But it's seems it is only a very small percentage that are writing and emailing

the Governor.

Any creative ideas about lightng a fire under the others would be really

appreciated.

SO many people have worked so hard on ths for so many years. Some of the most

active have gotten more ill because of their work, but felt they had no choice

because the issue was so important.

The bill would help every singe one of us on this list. And the email and phone

call being requested would take two or three minutes.

I don't want to wake up on THursday morning to find the bill has been vetoed and

we need to start from scratch next year.

Please help me figure out how to get the word out to everyone on this list that

the three minutes I am asking of them could save their medical care.

I'm Sandy from Ohio and I'm support and caregiver to the most wonderful

friend a person could ever ask for - but - I truly fear the ripple effect on

her health should this bill be vetoed.

I don't have Lyme and I don't live in NY..........but I've asked everyone on

my e-mail list to contact the Governor - and I do that once a month.

There are NO LLMD's in Ohio, so we travel to Dr. B and just returned

Thursday from an appointment.

I applaud you Ellen and all your hard work and also everyone else that's

been involved.

Everyone - please contact the Governor - ask everyone you can to contact the

Governor.

Thank you,

Sandy

Hi Ellen,

I live in California and care for my daughter with Lyme. I have called and

emailed the governor several times.

Can you give us a one paragraph or so explanation of why this is so critical

to everyone that we can pass on to our non-Lyme email lists with a request

for immediate calls? I don't understand it quite enough to do that

properly.

Thanks for you very hard work! Carol

properly.

Maybe this will help.....

Sample letter from Ellen to her non Lyme friends...

Hi folks,

As many of you know, I have been working to help

protect the medical care of Lyme patients, and I need

your help once again.

The culmination of this work, the OPMC Reform Bill,

A4274b, is on Governor Pataki's desk. I've just

heard that there is a strong chance that he will veto

this bill late today or tomorrow.

Since he has been ambivalent about this for a long

time, significant grass roots pressure on him now

could get him to change his mind. and allow the bill

to become law.

Please email and call and ask people on your own

address lists to do the same.

The bill is not specific to Lyme disease. What it does

is give some very basic due process rights to ALL

doctors when they are targeted by the state medical

discipline board (the Office of Professional Medical

Conduct, or OPMC. ) It in no way enables bad doctors

to avoid OPMC discipline.

Just two examples of the bill's provisions:

------It guarantees the right of targeted doctors to

submit scientific and medical literature to defend the

treatment choices they have made.

------It requires the OPMC to reveal any evidence they

might have that would clear the doctor of the charges

against them.

That these , and other , such basic rights are not

currently afforded doctors gives you an idea of what

we have been up against here in NY.

For further information on the bill, go to

www.healthlobby.com/OPMCreform.htm

The OPMC, like other state medical disciplinary

boards, gets a significant number of its complaints

about doctors from insurance companies. Unless

doctors get some right to protect themselves, any

doctor offering more than the minimum care can be at

risk for losing his/her license. This just ain't

good for patients.

CONTACT INFO FOR PATAKI:

Email Governor Pataki, . Go to the following web

address

and scroll down a bit. You will find a form on which

to include your email message.

http://161.11.3.75/

Telephone Governor Pataki at: 518 -474-8390

Whether you call or email or do both, the message

should just be Please sign the OPMC Reform Bill ,

A4274b,.

Thanks all,

Ellen
