I lost weight and felt pretty good about it. I was able to get back into my

clothes again.

But, I gained weight again and have only a few things to wear again.

It certainly has not been because of what I have eaten. The food intake has

remained the same.

In the big picture, this is not something to be really concerned about, but

it certainly doesn't help with the self esteem.

Dear ,

After my huge weight gain from Lyme, and trying for years to get the weight

off, I am thrilled to say I finally lost 30 lbs over the past six months. I

was advised by my herbal food advisor to cut out white flour, of course sugar,

and gluten, which is in most pasta and bread products. I also joined weight

watchers for the points discipline, but use few of their products. I invested

in several walking dvds ( Sansone and of course I have my old

tapes) and I love it. The walking tapes are the easiest to do and I'm

done in 20-45 minutes, depending on the length of the walk. If I'm rushed,

I do a 1 mile walk, if I have time I do the 2 or 3 mile walk and it has become

a way of life for me almost every day. I feel like I am headed for success.

As a result of the change in my diet and building up stamina, I can run up

and down stairs without getting very winded. Many of us Lymies have a lot of

our weight in the stomach because of all of the yeast from the antibiotics.

Cutting out the gluten has really helped. Also, I only eat sweet potatoes

and no white potatoes, which turn to sugar during digestion. These are just a

few tips that have helped me tremendously.

As I have started feeling better, I have found that I don't just sit around

and cosole myself with food. As a matter of fact, for a while I had quit

eating breakfast AND lunch. While this helped me lose weight, it did

nothing for my health. Just last week I was fighting the nausea that doxy

can give you if you don't take it with food. Since then I have started

making sure that I take it with food and I am feeling better than ever!

Good advice that I follow when I really get the nerve -- cut out the snacks

completely, eat your veggies, eat regular (meat, two veggies, potato) meals

but avoid the bread and desert. You do that as well as don't just sit

around with the pain but at least get up and do something as well as you

can. This also helps your attitude. I firmly believe this is all I/you?

need to lose. I have seen me do it with this plan before and now that my

pain is starting to lower and as my attitude gets healthy, I will lose

weight and not be tired and grouchy about it either. (as I would be

otherwise)

I can say, however, that I couldn't say any of this if I wasn't getting

better. Eat sensibly, no snacks, cut back or no bread, eat all meals in

moderate quantities and make sure to eat your veggies, and last but not

least, no " real " pop with sugar. Diet pop is OK in my experience. The pound

will gradually melt away at a rate which allows you to stay trim without

worry of gain-back!

Yes, I haven't been able to either. I went from 121lbs. in 2000 to a whopping

172lbs. now. The lyme made me blow up terribly. I tried everything. I hardly

eat as it is. I really think it is my thyroid, but who knows at this point!!!

<<<<<Diet pop is OK in my experience>>>

I'm surprised you don't have any side-effects from diet soda.

Aspartame and those other artificial sugars can cause great havoc in your

body. Some people double over in pain after having a " diet "

anything......and then spend hours in the bathroom.

Some people suffer terrible headaches.

Congratulations on your weight loss..........I've been doing pretty much the

same thing you are..........and I'm also losing weight.

I gained about 50 lbs while having lyme disease.....but now it's slowly

coming off.

Keep up the good eating and activity........

******Diet pop is DEADLY for those with Lyme.....I am a survivor of Aspartame

poisoning and ended up loosing part of my right lung in the early 80's from

my addiction to Diet Coke and Diet Dr Pepper.....go to www.dorway.com and spend

a few days reading and perhaps change your mind.....

********Connie is correct and only mentioned 1/100th of the damage that it

can do to your body....I just recently found out how much damage it did to my

******What is really tragic is they are putting this POISON in medications,

childrens meds, couch syrup, baby foods and EVEN regular soda....many companies

are using the 2% law, meaning they don't have to label.....I'm one of the

lucky ones and if I ingest any I know within a few hours.....this is how I

discovered it in regular soda, ice teas, yogurt, etc., etc., etc., It destroys

your

liver....read this article:

Subject: Steato Hepatitis

Subject: Steato Hepatitis, another extensive NutraSweet Plague,

Bowen, M.D. (for global distribution) Permission to Publish

For those on aspartame support groups who have had questions about the

liver problems from aspartame, and why some physicians question hepatitis

in aspartame victims.

From Bowen, M.D. June 4, 2001

Steato Hepatitis, characterized by an accumulation of fat in the hepatocyte

(liver cell) resulting from ingestion of aspartame is focused in the

mitochondria. Mitochondria are the energy furnaces of the cell and

aspartame (APM) metabolism into more toxic derivatives, formaldehyde and

formic acid take place in the mitochondria. As in all NutraSweet poisoning

the formaldehyde and formic acid immediately attack the tissues they are

generated in so we see a new co-existent plague of " anti-mitrochondrial

antibody hepatitis " generated right along with the steato hepatitis because

the immune system reacts to the degenerated tissues.

The breakdown of fats into energy producing chemicals has obligatory

metabolism via mitochondrial mechanisms. When mitochondria are rendered

defective by aspartame poisoning fat cannot be processed to be used for

energy. The formation of fat from dietary calories proceeds because fat is

built up directly in the cytosol of cells and accumulation is not dependent

on mitochondrial function. So liver cells and fat cells and after fats

cells (lipocytes) store fat and cannot get rid of it no matter how badly it

is needed to supply energy to the body. Thanks to NutraSweet these victims

literally cannot starve the fat off of their bodies or out of their livers

because of their compromised mitochondrial functional capacity. To make

matters worse the mitochondrial DNA is severely

damaged. Methanol/formaldehyde poisoning occurring as the direct result of

the obligatory metabolism of methyl radicals is the most common form of

genetic damage, caused by formaldehyde cross linkage of DNA strains. The

mitochondrial DNA is thousands of times more vulnerable to this than

nuclear DNA, and lack the excellent repair mechanisms that protects the

integrity of nuclear DNA. The presently understood mitochondria DNA repair

mechanisms are merely excisional, that is the DNA rendered abnormal by the

aspartame/methanol poisoning is merely excised leaving the mitochondrial

function at best insufficient, defective and incomplete. Which in addition

to producing inadequate and incomplete energy metabolism spins off highly

damaging free radicals. Methanol/formaldehyde poisoning is noted for this.

This vicious circle amounts to tremendous degenerative process in the human

organism and the unfortunate results too numerous to be repeated here but

are well detailed on www.dorway.com and other excellent sites such as

www.holisticmed.com/aspartame, as well as Dr. Hyman text on the

subject. (Aspartame Disease: The Ignored Epidemic - 1 800 814 - 9800 or

www.sunsentpress.com/ ). This amounts to virtual " genocide " , and is

further emphasized by the fact this mitochondrial DNA damage is directly

transmitted by female NutraSweet users to her children and grandchildren,

and to subsequent generations via her female descendents.

These comments from Dr. Bowen are in answer to questions from

Heming, Mission Possible Arizona:

Aspartame is noted to impair immunologic competence as is its breakdown

product methanol or methyl alcohol. Many people have reported all sorts of

viral recurrences because of aspartame. A present epidemic of steato

hepatitis which we use to call fatty degeneration of the liver and ensuing

cirrhosis of the liver is in full blown existence because young people are

drinking aspartame which damages the mitrochondria of the liver, and the

mitrochondrial DNA. The only hope for some kind of relief is the various

herbal and nutritional products that can help the damaged mitrochondrial

function to compensate. Moreover aspartame has engendered a massive

epidemic of chemical hypersensitivity. This means that many other

chemicals will have a highly toxic effect on the liver beyond what they

usually would and the exposure to any number of chemicals could reactivate

the virus.

So Aspartame as in the Persian Gulf Syndrome is known to make the effects

of other toxins many times greater. This would also likely apply to many

other drugs commonly used to treat hepatitis, as well as the preservatives

in them.

Bowen, M.D.

Note from i: Hepatitis and Cirrhosis of the liver with regard to

aspartame is discussed in detail in Dr. H. J. new medical

text: Aspartame Disease: The Ignored Epidemic, www.sunsentpress.com or

Wow,

I am so sorry you have suffered so much damage from aspartame............so

horrible that our society is so anxious to cut back on calories, that

products have been developed that are so dangerous to us.

I'm glad you discovered it.......before it actually killed you.

Most people think I am crazy when I tell them to stay away from

aspartame............so I quit talking about it.

I don't drink soda at all...............usually water and real cranberry

juice or cold herbal teas............
