Guest guest
In response to the post about rocephin, I think we need to be careful not to assume that every reaction is a herx. I got VERY sick on rocephin and now have multiple chemical sensitivities as a result. I got gallstones from the rocephin, which in turn caused me to get elevated mercury levels in my blood due to high fish consumption at the time, and I became totally incapacitated as a result, as if the Lyme were not enough. For the past several years, I have been completely alternative and no longer test positive for lyme by PCR after doing the following: switching to the specific carbohydrate diet (read Breaking the Vicious Cycle or go to pecanbread.com), eating TONS of raw cultured vegetables and 30-hour fermented raw goat yogurt (which healed my gut along with other herbal interventions), taking goatein IG colostrum and lactoferrin to help gut, resolving blocked liver sulphation pathway with topical magnesium sulfate, treating organic acidemias with intramuscular coenzymated b-vitamin shots, taking Dr. Zhang's herbal protocol for lyme and babesia, taking lyme/babesia homeopathic nosodes, taking samento, doing sauna therapy, cleaning out blocked gallbladder with chinese herbs that dissolve gallstones and doing coffee enemas, treating chronic viral infections (EBV/CMV/HVV6) with herbs, monolaurin, prescription antivirals, IVIG and anti-fibrin blood thinners like the enzyme product Nattokinase (This was very important for me in improving blood flow and treating infections/some people take heparin instead), treating all infections with transfer factor specific to certain infections, creating chemical free environment for myself and more. A lot of people do not realize how toxic many of the antibiotics are especially at the doses, duration and combinations used for LYme. Although IM penicillin has the most dramatic effect for me in resolving many of my Lyme symptoms, penicillin like many other antibiotics, depletes the major glutathione liver detoxification pathway and can set the stage for developing chemical sensitivities like I did. Most importantly, as in my case, antibiotics severely affect gut microbial balance, which took YEARS for me to resolve through SEVERE changes in diet and supplementation. Gut microbes are known to produce phenols which can inhibit liver sulfation pathway as well. Although I no longer test positive for the numerous yeast, bacteria and parasites in my stool tests like I did during antibiotic therapy for lyme, I still become quite ill if I stray from the specific carbohydrate diet that has been quite effective in reversing colitis and other severe gut disorders. Meanwhile, rocephin is probably the most damaging antibiotic since it has the potential to cause gallstones, which can severely inhibit liver detoxification. I highly recommend people who are still on antibiotic therapy to take the Great Smokies Liver Detoxification test to determine whether their phase one and phase two liver detoxification pathways are working properly as well as take their organic acid urine test to determine how their other metabolic pathways are functioning. Go to their website to read more about these tests IF you are on rocephin, I also highly suggest talking to your doc or naturpath about taking things that thin the bile like phos choline and bile thinning herbs. Taking rocephin was the turning point for me in the direction of total disability. Up till then, I had improved enough to go back to grad school. Rocephin may not affect everyone the same way but be aware of its potential toxicity. Although I did not begin to develop the chemical sensitivities until I took the rocephin and got gallstones and mercury poisoning from the blocked bile flow, I believe I had them in a more understated form all along, as best demonstrated by the fact that exposure to chemicals in everyday things like formaldehyde in news clothes, phenols in cleaning chemicals, etc., can turn my LYme symptoms on at the drop of a hat. Meanwhile, living in a chemical free, specially built environmental room (which I was forced to do after getting full-blown chemical sensitivities, keeps me in a state of severely reduced symptom load. I never understood why doing simply things like showering (before i knew to use a filter to remove chlorine), trying on new clothes in stores, etc. would set off the Lyme Disease until I realized how chemically allergic I was. My LYme doctor Dr. Burrascano's PA has told me that many of their other LYme patients are chemically sensitive as well and I think this is probably due to the several things: history of high antibiotics use, viral/bacterial inhibition of detoxification pathways due microbial nuerotoxins, poor/toxic bile flow, and microbial overgrowth of the gut. For instance, bad gut microbes are known to specifically inhibit the glucuronic liver detoxification pathway that breaks down things like phenols and salycillates in foods, which in turn can cause sensitivities to such foods. So in closing, don't assume that every toxic reaction is simply a herx. P.S. In response to the post about pelvic pain, once of the first symptoms that I got with LYme and one of the most persistent was pelvic numbness. So the Lyme defintely affected my pelvic region. I also get severe pain around my hip and groin area from viral reactivation with EBV/CMV/HHV6.
Guest guest
Who wrote this? Just curious. I haven't read it yet, but scrolled down to see who was sending it and didn't see a name. Thanks, in California
