Body weight is a factor in dosage, but but it isn't THE factor. I weighed 130 pounds when I was prescribed 80 mg Prednisone and 150 mg Imuran. (That's a medium weight and a high dosage.)

Hello, all,

I have been reading your posts for about one month. My partner, Trudy, has late

stage lyme. She has been doing IV Rocephin (with a brief stint of Zithromax) for

9 months with no relief. In fact, the Rocephin is causing sludging and

gallstones. She sees a LLMD and he is directing her treatment. We don't want to

do surgery for the gallstones as she's too frail right now. She sees a Reiki

master tomorrow to work on energy at the suggestion of her MD.

She's been on total disability on a private policy and state since last May. I

think we may have to pursue Federal disability when the state runs out after a

year. From what I've read here, getting an attorney is wise. I'm doing my best

to be her secretary, notetaker, advocate, but she often feels guilty about the

responsibilities I've assumed. I just want her to take care of herself, but I

don't count on things getting better any time soon. She's coinfected w/

Bartonella and probably Erlichia and Babesia too (although the test for Bab. was

negative). It's a long road to hoe and I sympathize with all of you and your

struggles.

Anybody had problems with gallbladder issues and Rocephin? Solutions?

Anybody used hyperbaric oxygen? That's sort of an option for us, but it's cost

prohibitive.

I was on IV Rocephin recently for 12 weeks. During that time my doctors

did ultrasounds to make sure I wouldn't get gall stones or have other

problems. The idea was that I would stop the Rocephin if I had

Gallbladder problems. One Dr. said it was no problem because the

operation to remove the gallbladder was not serious. The other said that

not having a gall bladder can be really bad for some people and there

can be ongoing problems so if you're having a reaction you should stop

the treatment.

I got a lot sicker on Rocephin and finally was switched to Bicillin

shots. My Main LLMD said that he would have had me on oral Biaxin with

the Rocephin if he had realized that the other Dr had put me on oral

Tetracycline along with the IV....

They both agreed, though, to take a break after 12 weeks and try

something else before considering another round. I have heard of people

staying on IV for years, but not with those kinds of side effects.

There are so many varying opinions and its hard to tell when to seek

other opinions, but if I were you I might go for another opinion before

sinking $$ into alternative treatments (unless you have a lot to spare

;-)...or along with the alternative treatments.

There are many treatments and the Rocephin misses many spirochetes

apparently. Also, I'm not sure that it will treat the co-infections,

which is something that is very important to address sooner rather than

later. Not all Drs are into co-infection treatment and it important to

be sure that your Dr is up on that.

I have Babesia and my Dr wouldn't do the IV until he had treated that.

I'm still not convinced that it's gone and may have to do another round

of treatment ....It is like malaria and its symptoms are exactly like

CFS...

Anyway, good luck. Your partner is lucky to have someone overseeing

these things. I can't remember one thing to the next lately and am sort

of afloat in this stuff. Thankfully, my doctor is a big note taker so he

can look back at each treatment and tell me exactly how I reacted and

felt!!

PS Get a disability lawyer now! My case took well over a year after 2

denials without a lawyer....and after I had been sick for a long time

and just spending my savings to live.... As soon as the lawyer was

onboard it went really smoothly (which took months and months, really)

and I got back payment, but in the meantime I really struggled

financially!
