Now I'm afraid I'm going to worry you. I've had a similar experience a half

dozen times. But in my case, I've literally watched the bruise rupture under

the skin, completely devoid of any injury or having bumped it on anything.

It will begin to hurt a little, and slowly grow in intensity, and become a

throbbing sensation.

I have hypercoagulation problems, and blood clots are a serious thing. Since

hypercoagulation is common with chronic infections, like Lyme, and since a

blood clot in the hand is relatively benign, but a blood clot in the brain

or heart is not, I would highly recommend that you have hypercoagulation

testing done. The best test to have done is the ISAC panel, done by Hemex,

but parts of it are considered experimental, and may not be completely

covered by insurance. It has to be ordered by a doctor. But it will be far

more accurate than the routine blood tests that doctors normally run for

hypercoagulation, and may uncover some types of hypercoagulation that the

standard tests can't.

Quite frankly, I believe that anyone who has been diagnosed with Lyme should

have hypercoagulation testing done, because hypercoagulation problems can

prevent Lyme from being effectively treated. Lyme likes to hide out in blood

clots. It, and a number of other pathogens, like to stimulate increased

fibrin production, and increased fibrinogen production to form little

pockets that are protected from the immune system. Added to that, the body

will use platelets to clot around pathogens until the immune cells can

arrive. And in doing so, will sometimes elevate platelet levels to excessive

levels, which can cause an increased blood clotting problem, as well. Added

to that, acidosis and toxins can cause disruption in production of enzymes

necessary to break down blood clots. And inherited blood clotting disorders

can be aggravated early when there are chronic infections.

On one occasion, I ruptured a blood vessel in my right leg, near the ankle.

It seems to have permanently reduced circulation around my ankle, and I now

have problems with it swelling up whenever I have my leg down for more than

30 minutes. I have to elevate it frequently, and wear support stockings to

reduce the swelling. (I haven't tried DMSO on it, yet, but I didn't think

about doing that until I started writing this e-mail, so I'm going to go put

some on right after I finish this) One time I ruptured a blood vessel in my

little finger on my left hand. Within hours the blood clot had broken loose

and clotted in a nearby vein, and ruptured it. Over a 24 hour period I had

ruptured blood vessels in my left hand in 4 different places. My hand looked

like the two outer fingers and the left side of the hand were dying, for a

couple weeks. It was gruesome. I now have problems with the outside of my

left hand and the little finger and ring finger going numb within seconds of

raising it higher than my heart, and it is always cold. It's been a couple

years, and it is still a problem. I feel fortunate that I have not had it

happen in my head or heart or some organ. Most of the other blood vessel

ruptures have not caused any apparent permanent damage.

I can tell that it is beginning to happen, because it has a particular

feeling when it begins to hurt. It starts out as just a dull pain that

slowly grows over time till it becomes a throbbing pain. Sometimes it only

takes a few minutes from the start of the pain to the blood vessel

rupturing, and sometimes it will slowly get worse over several days. If it

gets to the point where it is throbbing, I can get some ice on it within a

few minutes, and it will stop it from rupturing. I've started on some things

to reduce hypercoagulation, and that has significantly reduced the problem.

But I feel it is probably not enough because I still have other signs of

continuing hypercoagulation problems. I don't bleed afterward when I have

blood drawn, I pass mainly only clots during my period, and when I do get

cuts, it stops bleeding very quickly. However, there are types of

hypercoagulation that can cause just the opposite; bleeding profusely when

cut, heavy periods, having a difficult time getting it to stop bleeding when

blood is drawn. The reason is that if the body over-reacts to blood

coagulation problems, it may counteract it with too much of the enzymes

necessary to break down blood clots.

There are some that have suggested that I might have vasculitis, which is

another cause for ruptured blood vessels, and that's a possibility as well,

since Lyme likes to infect epithelial cells lining the blood vessels, which

can weaken the blood vessels as the immune system attacks the cells to

stimulate apoptosis to get at the Lyme.

Janet

You bruise much easier w/lyme, but it gets better as time goes on.

[ ] OK now what

Just when I think I have this lyme thing down pat and know what I'm dealing

with, I get hit in the head with something new. Here goes... Last Saturday I

woke up with pain in my right hand between my index finger and middle finger, I

really did not think much of it because I figured that in a little while that

pain may go down to my toe, or my leg or where ever lyme pain feels like going.

As the week went on I still had the pain, but now it was going up my are. I

woke up on Wed. AM and noticed that I had the biggest blake and blue on the top

of my right hand next to my little finger. What is that all about. I know I

did not hit, slam, punch or smack my hand. It just blows my mind that one

little bug could turn my world around. I did see a doctor, Not mine she was off

that day and he told me that I must of hit it on the head board during the

night. Well as soon as I figure this out I'll let you all know. Thanks for

letting me vent. Janet

*****WOW, I had a similar experience with my left hand but didn't connect it

to the Lyme??!!! My 5th meta-carpel of my left hand was very sore, like I had

hit it, which I hadn't to my knowledge. Approx the 4th day it turned blue

then green, like there was trama injury?? It was sore for 3 weeks.....since I

have Rheumatoid Arthritis, i thought it had something to do with that??? Let me

know if you find out if it could be the Lyme??
