Lyme Aid Owner I am sure you will be flooded with replies. Yes, antibiotics interact with coumadin and you will need to have more frequent monitoring. Yes, a NP can help you. They are often more engaged than MD's. In the end a good practitioner is a good practitioner. If she is specializing in lyme her heart is in caring properly for her patients. They are authorized to prescribe meds just like an MD would. As for tests and treatment. I went into the hospital and though my symptoms were screaming lyme the minute my test came back neg they pulled me off doxy. I had just gotten a three week supply at urgent care and cont. to take all 21 days without being discharged with this script. I did not trust that they had thought carefully about my case. I told my PCP later that I had cont. doxy on my own and she said that it wouldn't hurt to finish the antibiotic therapy. HOpe this helps a little. mrpotto2002 <csalfi@...> wrote:After reading about others experiences here, I am convinced that I have Lyme and want to begin treatment ASAP. As such, I want to prepare for my upcoming visit with the LLMD nurse practioner so I have a few Qs. 1-What is the likehihood that I will be allowed to go on some form of antibiotics without a positive test result? 2-What is the downside to the antibiotics in the event that one doesn't have lyme? Perhaps start small until confirmation? I just feel really helpless thinking I have this, knowing there is medication that helps, knowing time is of the essence and not able to get started. As an asie I'm on blood thinners for blood clots and I'm guessing this antibiotics interact. Anyone else on thinners and anti- biotics? 3- What questions should I ask the nurse? Is a nurse practioner going to have the authority/knowledge to treat my case or will this be a big waste of time? 4-What specific tests should I ask for? I now think I was bitten about 4-5 months ago. I think I read somewhere that certain tests are better based on when it is suspected that the bite occured. 5- I believe I had a mild rash on my face about 4-5 months ago. I still have a " pock " mark from that rash. Will that be able to assist the LLMD in making a diagnosis? Would they consider doing a biopsy of it? 6-Has anyone just checked themselves into a hospital and stayed there until you were treated. Is this a good strategy? Today wasn't that great of a day for me. My head ached, face and jaw tingled and burned and now I feel a sore throat and hoarsness coming on. It seems like these symptoms are moving pretty quick. Thanks for your time. Chris
Guest guest
C hris, Good Luck tomorrow! Make sure you let us know how you do. So sorry you missed going to Florida, esp after that Eagles/Dolphins game last night!! At least you are here & seeing a doc tomorrow, hope that brings you some comfort... Jeannie Thanks, Jeannie, I will. I was a bit bummed about missing that game last night. My 2 brothers went and called me earlier in the day-it sounded like they were having a great time. There will be other games- I'm hoping I'm up to going this Sunday which is in Philly since I have season tix-I guess I won't be drinking much if I do go.
