pseudomonas and levaquin questions

My recent trip to the doctor revealed that I had a heavy growth of

pseudomonas in me stool sample. I've had lower gut problems, mostly

inflamation and some dieahrrea, on and off mostly when on

antibiotics. The doctor was surprised to find it growing in my gut

as it is more commonly a cause of pneumonia, but on further research

it seems that it can be a cause of antibiotic induced colitis. It

was tested for resistance to antibiotics and it is resistant to

everything I've taken so far for lyme. That's no surprise since it

is known for becoming quickly resistant to antibiotics. I, and my

other doctor, feel that this overgrowth is due to the imbalance of

normal gut flora. Of course, the problem is that if I continue on

ABX I will continue to kill off all the beneficials. I take

probiotics all day long and am adding kefir again as soon as we get

our kefir grains back on track, but I'm still symptomatic. Has

anyone dealt with this.

My LLMD started me on Levaquin because the pseudomonas showed

little resistance to that. It hasn't affected my gut problems

actually they are worse making me think that maybe yeast or something

else is the culprit. It seems to have some pretty drastic side

effects in some people, but is well tolerated by most. I noticed

searching the net and the archives that some people have taken larger

doses than what I'm on. I'm taking 500 mg once a day. I'd

appreciate hearing about experiences with levaquin treatment and

doses if anyone has experience. I know it's a fairly new treatment

for lyme.
