Guest guest
Way to go. I'm sure that you will enjoy the warmth and the sauna experience. Rather than stand, find a wood stool to put in the tub and by all means don't accidentally turn on the shower. I still think that the stand alone far infrared heater, although a little more expensive, is a better way to go. When the heaters are not being used for sauna they can be used to provide FIR heat to the home. Also, they deliver infrared energy across the entire spectrum. Heat Lamps do not emit far infrared energy, which according to research has been found to be the most beneficial for the human body. For the do it yourselfer, your solution is good for a IR sauna. If you want the benefits of far infrared, it comes from a heater with a ceramic element that emits FIR energy. Contrary to whatever you may have heard, heat lamps do not emit far infrared energy. Guest guest
That's an interesting innovation! It reminds me of the health club I never went to all year, a few blocks away, they have an infrared sauna and the bulbs are all on the ceiling, and there are two tiers of wooden shelflike seating. Larry recommends 3 bulbs in a 4 by 4 by 6 space. 3 bulbs in my closet which is probably more like 3 by 3 by 11 or something, is SUPER hot. I have had to lay off for a few days as I overdid it and must start slower. I got too much detox going, or maybe herx, who knows, anyway...it is a VERY powerful modality. I am reminded early in lyme of hearing of a guy who cured his lyme only by sweat lodges. He would relapse, go do sweat lodges again, be well for a while, relapse, etc, but after 2 years of periodic sweat lodges, he was totally cured. So six bulbs is super strong. Remember to drink water before an dafter, and during if necessary. Replace minerals and electrolytes. A great electrolyte formula I bought is Elyte (google it). > > Greg, > > > > I am new to all of this. Guest guest
Larry 's sauna uses heat lamps as the heat source. Heat lamps generate IR in the near infrared and some into the middle infrared range. I have yet to find any data to show that heat lamps generate IR into the far infrared range. See the graph on the webpage http://www.xmission.com/~total/temple/Soapbox/Articles/WhyFIR.html Even though the heat lamp sauna does not emit into the FIR range, there is obviously good benefits to using this type sauna as those now using them will atest. Personally, I've not tried the heat lamps so cannot say how it compares. If the research findings that the composition of sweat produced in a conventional sauna is different from the composition of sweat produced in a FIR sauna, I suspect that there is probably some difference in composition of sweat produced in IR sauna vs. FIR sauna. The ceramic heating elements, like those used in the FIR sauna, radiate energy across the entire IR spectrum. You may want to read some of the referenced articles that are linked at the bottom of the above webpage. All the best, Jim > Did Larry use IR or far IR? Guest guest
I asked him and he thought not. My closets have not been painted in years. But when you do paint a room, one way to speed the offgassing is to " bake " it for a few days. So my hunch is if you were worried, you could turn on the sauna lights and bake the closet for a while and then air it out. > Does he have any concern that the infra-red sauna will cause the paints on the > walls or the waxes on the floor, or the woods in the closest (door/ wall/ floor) > etc. to activate or out-gas? > > Could it make the air toxic by causing the materials of the closet to out-gas? > > Do you know? > [ ] Re: Build a IR sauna for under $120.00 > > > > That's an interesting innovation! Guest guest
You did not miss the very best. If you read Dr. 's book on sauna therapy, it is quite opwerful adn effective (read his own story). Some of the original studies on sauan therapy in the far east were done with bulbs just like these. There have not been a lot done with ceramic units, and they do emit a narrower range. In fact, Dr. thinks they emit a magnetic field that is unhealthy (I'm not saying this is true, just that there's clearly a lot of different opinions about this). Ron Hubbard's program used regular saunas. Probably most saunas are good but the heat in regular ones is hard to tolerate. I am not sure if Jim mentioend it but he has been selling, in the past, the units he recommends. They may be effective but there is no proof they are more effective. Perhaps he could put his website and state the fact that he is a consultant at the bottom of his emails, as do Sue Massie & others, so that it is clear to people what he does. Just a suggestion. > > > Greg, > > > > > > I am new to all of this. Guest guest
Jeni, for starters, my hubby pointed out that I should have a closure to the open bulb , empty sockets left open. He checked at home depot, none at ours anyway. The next best, would be to buy a bulb base reducer, and put a low watt night light in, even burned out would be OK. Just so there was no socket with electric open. Ok Jeni... I want to sweat out neurotoxins. My Doctor, whose wife has lyme, and he took her to the reverred Doctor Burrascano, tells me his wife's vision improved after just 3 treatments! My perfect eyesight went to far sighted, with this lyme. The neurotoxins affect eyesight. See VCS.com for more info. i tested positive on their online program. Also, I am drinking A LOT of water. 100 ounces a day. And, my bladder control has actually improved!! Check out the watercure philosophy. INTERESTING stuff. (I thot I was superwoman after delivering, and worked in my garden, not giving my bladder a chance to settle out right, so it has slipped a bitty) I feel better drinking water. I have only used my sauna 1 time. I'll keep you all posted with my far-sightedness. Thank you Jeni for your TADA of me!! I like your postings. Keep up the spitfire!!! I will!! Re: [ ] Build a IR sauna for under $120.00 holy cow mary!!!!!!!!!!!! you ROCK~~~~~!!!!!!!!!!! i am SO proud of you! ok..........now, tell me something: what are the benefits you are trying to get from your sauna? because if it has anything to do with sweating out some of the lyme junk, i'm on my way to home depot! Guest guest
Terry, by all means! Sure, and share I will. However, as an adult, my body movments are very controlled, I don't jerk and sneeze, stuff like that, you know? Precautions are advised to put metal wiring over the bulbs to avoid accidental breakage. Also, could the little one turn on the water? And, the empty sockets for anyone, shoud be capped off, see posting to Jeni for ideas. I would be delighted to be a part of helping. My best to you, Please forgive me if I try to help too much. Guest guest
You definitely should put a flexible metal grid over the lamps so as not to accidentally bump and shatter them; you also don't want to splash water on them, I guess cold water adn that extreme heat might also cause the glass to shatter. So no shower while in the sauna. ;-) I also want to mention that Dr. thinks six bulbs are too many. If you find it too hot, use less bulbs. Three in my closet is unbelievably strong and a shower stall is probably the size of my closet. > > Greg, > > > > I am new to all of this. Guest guest
Jim, thank you for your common sense approach, and assurances. it makes real sense. I'm not having any problems with my wonderful new device. I covered the open sockets. The gold sleeves come right off, and I put a neat piece of duct tape over the porcelain. The sleeve holds it and it is a neat job to look at too. I decided to turn off the water supply to the tub, although, I have been in the bath all my life and never turned a bath on by mistake! Today I worked-out before this sauna, and I cut down on time inside, with a good start of being really warmed up, and already sweating. Jim, thank you for your common sense approach, and assurances. I am hoping my eyes will return to their healthy state, pre-lyme.
Guest guest
Of course not. Go ahead. Also for MCS you might look into: kane's work that has been discussed here, you can buy the phoschol onilne at E-lyte but its a bit expensive; and I just found a supplement called Fenol (I think?) on a group called autism and eenzymes, which may help MCS people with phenols. > > > > Greg, > > > > > > > > I am new to all of this.
