Dear Sue,

Yes, I think it helped a lot! At the end of the year of IV I felt good

enough to think about getting a part time job when I hadn't worked in 2 1/2

years. So I felt tons better, but I have wondered if the right orals may

have done the same thing. My gut tells me no! That I needed the IV to

improve to that level. Unfortunately, I felt so much better (Did not feel

cured, just so much better), that I tried a part-time job that proved to be

too much too soon (I had to quit after 7 weeks) and I destroyed some of my

progress, setting me back about 6 months. My LLMD had advised not to go to

work too soon -that I would only relapse, and he was right! The prominent

LLMD in this area advises not to go to work until completely cured.

Alot of Lymies in my area are on IV for many months, even 18 months to 2

years and they all say that it helped them alot! My feeling from reading the

posts is that the majority of people are only able to be on IV a short time,

and it is not long enough, so it is decided that IV doesn't work for them.

IV, even for a long time is not necessary the end-all to treatment though. I

consider the IV and my 2- 6 month stints on flagyl to have helped me the

most of all my regimens. I had to stay on orals after IV and am still on

them 1 year later,(but remember my setback of trying to work too soon) but

am at that stage where I feel so good again that I am starting to look for a

job!

Hope to you and everyone trying to get long term IV.

I totally agree with everything Robin wrote. I'm at the point where I could

possibly work a part time job now where a year ago I was forced to be pushed in

a wheelchair if I had to go somewhere that required any significant walking. I

was in bed most of the day. If I did get a job now I know it would probably be a

week or two and it would ruin almost everything I've gained so far. Patience is

the key in all of this. Not only were orals very very slow for me, but they were

not getting deep enough into my body it seemed. They weren't cutting it. I will

be on IV for as long as it takes. I really don't feel like the IV is a big deal.

I know most people have a problem with access to it. I personally would do

whatever it takes to get the IV if I had to.
