Guest guest
Hi friends: I also ended up gaining 55 pounds after being on rocephin. After one year, I have gone from 197 pounds to 140 and now I am facing losing too much weight from Irritable bowel syndrome...Sue Massey please call me. My doctor put me on IV gamma globulin but I just found out that my medicare primary only paid her a fraction of the cost and I am waiting for my secondary to pick up the rest (my doctor's office tells me that the secondary balks at paying and I signed a paper prior to my last infusion, being sick and desperate, to pay the remainder...yikes that's 4,000 dollars I do not have). Anyway, Sue, your advice about calcium/magnes. for the oral lesions (I had them on my tongue and gums) worked amazingly well..they are gone and they were driving me to the edge as they were so painful. I don't know the systemic dynamics of rocephin but something seems to occur to many people that causes such dramatic weight gain..anyone know why this is? I wish you all good luck in losing the unwanted weight but I think Sue Massey might be able to save you from my plight with IBS which makes my life miserable. Best wishes, Donna

Guest guest
-Hello, sorry to hear of your lyme related problems... My doc today explained to me rocephin does not itself cause the weight gain... he says it is blocked receptor sites... sometimes after we start on rocephin the disease actually starts to migrate into our receptor sites.. it is a great place to live... and the receptor sites are the last places for the little guys to take up residence...which is unfortunate because then protein can't get into the cells to give us just normal energy... so the body just reads this as too much sugar in the blood stream and starts storing it as unwanted fat...so thats why even low carb atkins type diets don't work for me and others....even though we think its protein the body just turns it all into fat anyway... Well, that is what my doctor says anyway... he does say when the treatment is near the end and the receptor sites become free I will loose the weight...
