Guest guest
You do not have to name your medication. You have to name the condition. If you use Medic Alert, they keep records of the medications you take, and when they are changed you just inform them to put their records up to date. I think being diabetic on insulin would have to be mentioned though because it is very quick acting. If you are on steroids you should have a card with you which states that you are and what they are. Lilian medic alert bracelets has anyone any experience please on what to put on the engraving as my meds are constantly changing? I take t3 and hc plus a whole host of supplements. Keri x------------------------------------TPA is not medically qualified. Consult with a qualified medical practitioner before changing medication. Guest guest
On mine, I just had it engraved 'adrenal insufficiency - steroid dependent'. As Lillian says, you can update your medication changes as and when you need to by phoning Medic Alert. > > You do not have to name your medication. You have to name the condition. Guest guest
Hi All, I was going to get one of these medic bracelets but was then put off because the ones that give you a free bracelet (think about it they must be getting something out of it) record all your medical data and you are then exposed to people knowing your every ill as it is recorded on their computer system and you will be inundanted with medical bumpf through the door and even more risky is letting anyone other than your GP know your medical details for fear of being discriminated against for jobs etc. in the future. I went off the idea very quickly and would suggest the bracelets that have your own handwritten piece of paper (that you prepare) inserted in the bracelet are the better option. Hope this helps regards Mandy
Guest guest
Mandy, I have had a medic alert bracelet for many many years. However, it is not free. You have to pay for the bracelets / necklaces and with medic alert you have to pay an annual fee. Of all the rubbish I get through the post, very little is for medical stuff, and there was no increase when I joined medic alert. I would suspect that some staff of doctors are not all that discreet either - even though they are supposed to be. In fact, the receptionist at my doctor's surgery has been heard by everyone sitting in the waiting room, ask a patient how his piles were, or discuss the patient's private information to fill in a form so that everyone can hear. I worked for Solicitors and they have a code of conduct where nobody is supposed to divulge any information regarding a client. However I have known staff (mainly the young juniors who do not really care about their job), to tittle tattle. If they got found out they were sacked, but it was too late, they had already done it. Guest guest
HI Lillian, I was told by the company concerned that I would receive details of medical data and that meant to me that they were 'earning' their funds by selling the information from the bracelets. That could then compromise me at many levels as I still work. I am perfectly fit enough to work but would not want someone saying to me oh you have Lupus we couldnt possibly employ you (even though it is against the law to do so they would do it believe me) I was only offering the information to help others in case they also were protecting their health issues for job purposes. The bracelet I am talking about was free and was pretty expensive looking. regards Mandy
Guest guest
I use Medic Alert. They charge £25 a year for their service and the bracelets (plus engraved plate) start from £20. I don't think that they sell users' information to anyone. They say: Jeanette , MedicAlert CEO says:- `Here at MedicAlert we have been storing medical details on behalf of our Members for more than 40 years. We take the safety and security of these details very seriously and still believe we have the most practical solution in an emergency.' Guest guest
Hi Keri, I would put T3 and HC as both need to be taken frequently- I wouldn't bother about dose- just that you are taking them- and keep up to date info in your purse. It is vital to know that in case of an accident. Other supplements- I assume vits and minerals- are less urgent and less drastic if a dose is missed. > thyroid treatment > From: kericaswell@...> Date: Sat, 27 Mar 2010 17:28:35 +0000> Subject: medic alert bracelets> > has anyone any experience please on what to put on the engraving as my meds are constantly changing? Guest guest
I have a medic alert Bracelet, that when you open it, it has a very small thin Jump Drive that the EMT's can put into the USB port of their laptops, on this jump drive I have ALL my medical information on it, and first and foremost they will see that I use LDN, what it is and why I'm on it. I went this route, as I thought the bracelets that you ingrave would not give this information. I got it on line for approx $ 35. that included tax and S/H Nikki
Guest guest
Wow! I never knew such a bracelet was available. Could you post the link to the on-line store? Thanks > > I have a medic alert Bracelet, that when you open it, it has a very small thin Jump Drive that the EMT's can put into the USB port of their laptops, on this jump drive I have ALL my medical information on it, and first and foremost they will see that I use LDN, what it is and why I'm on it. > I went this route, as I thought the bracelets that you ingrave would not give this information. > > I got it on line for approx $ 35. that included tax and S/H > > Nikki >
