Guest guest
Hello-- I'm sending this to you to ask your help in protesting another attempt to limit access to supplements. This time it is an item in the Wall Street reform bill by Congressman Henry Waxman (D, CA), that would expand FTC (Federal Trade Commission) powers to again be able to create new regulations without Congressional approval, and thus outside of the political process that gives the people a voice in how we shall be governed. In the 1980s the power of the FTC to set regulations independently was stripped because of abuses, and one of the things FTC wanted to do then, and will want to do again, was limit access to supplements. Waxman wants to limit access to supplements. https://secure3.convio.net/aahf/site/Advocacy?cmd=display & page=UserAction & id=543 Our voices matter and we can stop this and other attacks from succeeding. We just need to be watchful, to unite, and to speak up. We have been successful in the past and we will prevail in this current situation if enough of us speak up. Guest guest
>Can we please leave politics out of discussion of access to supplements? >Thanks. -Angie Actually, no we can't. This isn't a question of partisan party-based politics. This is about people making sure we can still buy supplements as we wish. Do you really want to lose your access to supplements? Because that is what this is about. Politics would be me advocating a particular candidate for office. This isn't politics. People in both parties are both for and against free access to supplements. This is democracy at work, and if you don't use it, you lose it. I was involved in the original fight for the 1994 DSHEA bill that protects our access in the USA, which remains greater than in Europe, where potencies are governed heavily (some of our international members of this list may wish to testify). Our freedom to choose our path to health is worth protecting, must be protected, where ever it is under attack. -- >On Apr 28, 2010, at 2:09 AM, Baker wrote: > >> >> >>Hello-- I'm sending this to you to ask your help in protesting another >>attempt to limit access to supplements. Guest guest
Thanks, . I agree with what you wrote. I didn't mean discussion of access to supplements. I meant other stuff embedded in the original email that took a viewpoint on regulations not directly related to access to supplements, a viewpoint not everyone here will agree on, as well as assertions that particular members of congress are targeting supplements, when it's likely they are not. Notice that a bill contains language that could be interpreted to restrict access to supplements, without extraneous commentary, should suffice, IMO. -A On Apr 28, 2010, at 12:50 PM, Baker wrote: > > >Can we please leave politics out of discussion of access to > supplements? > >Thanks. -Angie > > Actually, no we can't. Guest guest
Very, very seldom is anything like this posted. This info IS important if we want to continue to have access to good supplementation. Many on this forum depend on good supplementation for their health issues. The pharmaceutical companies would love for the FTC and FDA to give them complete control over vitamins/supplements. Natural healthcare is becoming a multi-billion dollar business because the “light” is finally coming on for many people in that they need to be responsible for and take care of their own health through the type of prevention that works. Obviously this takes a big chunk out of Big Pharma’s pockets. Forums like the iodine group need to know what is going on in the political arena. If this is something you/others are not interested in then please push the delete button and go on. This is not political in the sense of an “opinion” – the information that provided is fact. Information empowers and it should not be suppressed. Guest guest
, unfortunately Waxman is actively against free access to supplements. Don't ask me why, he is otherwise a fine intellect. He is the person sponsoring the return to FTC free-reign on promulgating regulations. We need to know who is against free choice in health, no matter who they are, and likewise we need to know who is for free choice, no matter who. I also was involved in the fight to strip the FTC of their regulating authority in the 1980s-- I have been involved in the fight for free access to supplements for that long-- and the issue about FTC regulatory power is completely pertinent to this issue. I said nothing that was not factual and pertinent. Anyone who thinks we are not in for a long-haul struggle about retaining our right to free choice of supplements is living in a dream world-- there is too much money at stake, as Dr L noted. So I note your suggestions, but as someone who is a veteran of these struggles, I reserve the right to inform people about who and what the dangers are. -- At 12:04 PM 4/28/2010, you wrote: >Thanks, . Guest guest
Trying to discuss the attack on supplements without discussing politics is like discussing cake-baking and not talking about sugar and flour. This trash we've sent to Wasington over the last few decades is the VERY reason our supplements might go the way of the Dodo. It doesn't matter if we're talking about 1st and 2nd Amendment rights, supplements, or air and water quality. These mongrels in D.C. are the problem. Any law passed is a right lost. And once lost will never be retrieved. We must show the miscreants on BOTH sides of the aisle that their SOLE job is to secure the borders. Then stay out of our way so that we might take care of ourselves. Guest guest
I agree - when I saw it posted I "Hit the pause button" on my reaction and thought though the fact that iodine is part of this supplement issue. Also the companion nutrients. We cannot let them pick away at our rights to acquire these things. Steph RE: USA supplements under attack Very, very seldom is anything like this posted. Guest guest
nice theory . But how do respect and letter writing win wars? these guys don't play by the letter writing respect rule. Devious, deceitful, criminal and arrogant are words that fit when it comes to Pharma whom it seems are in court every other month. In the Pfizer case the judge didn't hold back he called the company serial liars and fined them $2.3 billion dollars. It was the 4th time in 10 years they had been in court for similar offences. Clearly large fines are mere petty cash when it comes to Pharma. And thousands of patients dead and millions left suffering as a result of their drugs and faked studies count for nothing. It is beyond belief that when these coourt cases appear there is rarely any mention of the damage to patients. They mention say a class action and then move swiftly on to how much money is it all going to cost? No if there is no emotion involved there will be no effective action. People have to get angry to get moving. It's not a rational matter. our lives are at stake and our childrens lives. Unified and committed action. A plan needs to be devised and agreed about what needs doing. What do you propose. david>>>Hello-- I'm sending this to you to ask your help in protesting another>attempt to limit access to supplements.
