Guest guest
Hi all My daughter, who is waiting to see the LLMD in three weeks has been taking doxycycline while she eaits. She has never actually been diagnosed with Lyme, but we are pretty sure she has it. My question, she has been on Doxy 11 days and started feeling much better after 2 days. However today, on day 11, all her symptoms came back, headache, flu like feeling, numbness etc. Could it be a herx this many days into the treatment? I appreciate any input. Guest guest
Another question. Since my daughter got her doxy from her pcp while she waits to see the llmd, could she be on too small a dosage. She is taking 100mg, twice a day. What is considered a theraputic dosage.. Guest guest
libby I herxed on the first dose and yes, it is a herx. Stop meds till she either gets better or really worsens then start meds again. I tend to get worse on one med and better on another int he reaction. Guest guest
I disagree. Do not stop meds unless your LLMD says to stop meds. Guest guest
AS an adult dose I took 1000 mg daily of tetracycline. It is based on body wgt. Check w/pharmacist on the dose normal for a child. Guest guest
Rita That would be great, but she doesn't have an LLMD till she sees him. In the mean time all of those who have seen an LLMD will tell you to stop the meds when herxing badly as this can make the condition worse or even put you in hospital if really a bad herx. Guest guest
Dear Libby, I agree with those who've already posted a response to your question....yes, this could definitely be a die-off reaction (herx). Some people have responded with alarm, recommending that your daughter stop the medication. If the symptoms are very serious, that might be a good idea. It's really a subjective call on this. Actually, herxing is a very good sign. It means the pathogens are being destroyed. Feels like hell, but it's a good sign. With some of the stronger meds I've taken (Flagyl) my doctor has suggested taking only 3-4 days a week (pulsing). However, that one my body could handle only two days. Even then it was excruciating. But I would take it again, it was probably the most powerful of all the drugs I've taken. Someone else also mentioned that doses need to be high enough. Just as a marker, when I was taking doxy 100 mg. pills, I took 2 3x a day. I weigh 200 lbs. Maybe others could tell their dose and weight to give you an idea. Slow and steady is the way. She will get better. It often is a kind of a detective story to get to the cure, but she will get better. Good luck to her. What is your daughter's name? It would be nice to know. Best, Bluesky P.S. Make sure she is drinking tons of pure water: *minimum* 8-10 large glasses per day.
Guest guest
I disagree. Do not stop meds unless your LLMD says to stop meds. Rita YES, I agree with Rita, who disagrees! Be careful of telling peole what to do. Re: [ ] Question please.... > Hi all > My daughter, who is waiting to see the LLMD in three weeks has been > taking doxycycline while she eaits. Guest guest
I have seen Joe B since '88. It is my opinion that, unless the sx are severe, you should call the LLMD you intend to see before you take the child off abx. Do not stop taking medication a doctor has prescribed without talking to that doctor or your (preferred) future LLMD. Guest guest
All I can tell you is what my LLMD told me get worse stop meds and wait to get better. If y ou don't get better then worsen restart meds. LLMD says you can worsen yourslef if you push the envelope when herxing and end up in hospital.
