I am not sure what the dose in mg per kilo is but I have heard alot of rheumies do 1mg per kilo and ours does even more. Definately worth mentioning your concerns at your next rheumy visit. Guest guest Posted March 7, 2005 Report Share Posted March 7, 2005 Ashlee My daughter just start MTX this week and she is 2 1/2 also but weighs 30 lbs. She is on 0.4mls of MTX. Don't know if this is a max dose or not, but would imagine the MD wouldn't begin her on a max dose, but instead work his way up. That is just my opinion... The dosing sounds about right or a little low. Not high, based on my daughters dose, but she takes hers orally... does yours? The oral dose would be higher than the injection dose, based on absorption. Guest guest Posted March 7, 2005 Report Share Posted March 7, 2005 -Ashlee. Nicks doctor starts out fairly low and increases as symptoms persist. The max she will go to is 1mg per 1kg of weight... Nick weighs 43-45lbs so around 20kgs. So his max MTX dose is 20mgs. We started at 10mg and increased over the course of 10 months to the 20mg. 20mg = .8cc Hope this helps... We were at 12.5 mg for Enbrel and 15 mg for Methotrexate. I believe the most that the body can absorb orally is 15 mg. Caroline at one point needed to go up to 20mg and that's why we switched in injectable. Turns out she couldn't handle that high of a dosage so we have since lowered her to 15mg, which is where she is currently at. It would be more sensible to start off with 1.5mg EVERY NIGHT and then just double up when you feel comfortable and then take three to make it the full 4.5mg dose. Once you know thats working for you, then continue with the 4.5mg. If you find it`s too much you can drop back and stay at 3mg. Good luck!
